Super Bowl XLII was an unexpected pleasure
I just finished my expenses - sorry, boss; Glauber ordered the appetizers - and I'm 30 minutes away from making it through a full business week without calling Tiki to ask him what he thought of the big game.
So I guess it's really, truly over now. Covering SBXLII was a wonderful experience, personally and professionally, and it was a privilege to do so on behalf of Newsday readers.
Mostly importantly, I learned a lesson in the two weeks after watching the Giants-Packers game and not necessarily rooting for the local squad, fearing the extra work and angst a Blue Blue victory would mean:
People in general and journalists in particular are better off not hoping life happens exactly the way they want it to. Much better to make the best of what does come along.
On the way home from Phoenix I watched a warm, cute romantic comedy called "Dan in Real Life." It ends with this thought:
"Instead of telling our young people to plan ahead, we should tell them to plan to be surprised."

how about something imus?
Wrong blog. Try the entertainment area. Imus is NOT on a sports-talk radio station any longer.
I enjoyed this victory much more--because it was unexpected. If I was a Patriots fans and they won by twenty or more points as expected, it wouldn't have satisfied me (because I did that type of team with the Yankees). But just the way they won in the last seconds of the game, giving the greatest team of mankind almost no chance to win, was such a surprise, and seeing Belichick be himself at the end, was just so special. It was close, but not too close, to being in Madison Square Garden the night the Rangers won the Stanley Cup (6/14/1994).
I saw the drunken Dana Jacobsen roast rant on youtube
Holy Cow is she hammered? ESPN shares some of the blame for trying to get into this game recently ressurected by Comedy Central. But the host (jeff ross?) twice tries to get her off stage and she comes back
She has a a lot of weight gains and losses - wonder if she is a full time boozer
As for you Neil, I can not tell you how much I enjoy your work - keep it up. I have shared some of your stuff with friends who now read you first and Simmons second - keep up the good work
Rupert: Thanks for the kind words. Wow. Now I just need Simmons' salary.
