Sean Salisbury will take his 'brand' elsewhere, thank you

Salisbury-Sean.jpgTurns out Will Ferrell (see below) is not the only USC alum in the news today.

Hours after announcing Cris Carter would join its team of NFL analysts, ESPN announced that Sean Salisbury no longer is an ESPN football analyst.

Salisbury had an amazingly long 12-year run. The Star-Tribune in Minneapolis reported his contract was up and ESPN chose not to renew. (UPDATE: I have independently confirmed the Star-Tribune's report this evening.)

I can't find major fault with that. Salisbury came off a tad scary and agitated after the Super Bowl, frankly.

Here is Salisbury's statement: "I want to thank ESPN for 12 great years of talking football on TV and the radio. I have grown as much as I can at ESPN and decided to expand my horizons. I have created a brand and it’s time to expand into other opportunities in TV, radio, Internet, publishing, movies and public speaking, among others. My resume speaks for itself as a football analyst, and I believe I can talk all sports with the best of them.”

Here is ESPN's statement: "Sean Salisbury has made many contributions to our efforts for the past 12 years. We thank him and wish him all the best."

Sean's a good kid from San Diego. He will do well in the future.

stay classy Sean just dont text me any pics of Lil Sean ok?

What did he do after the Super Bowl?

Nothing specific. I just found him to be weird and hyper after the game.

will he still do nutru system commercials?

Hey Jimmy Craig how is Jenny doing? nutru system eh?

Rich,
For one he called John Clayton "The Crypt Keeper" in an on-air debate which Clayton visibly looked annoyed about and wasn't in any discussions on TV or radio with Salisbury.

"I created a brand......." Wha?
No Sean, you just brought back the arrogant ex-Jock with a bullish mentality who lived up to only a 3rd string Quarterback.

I'm a little concerned with this whole Salisbury "Brand" concept.
Before Salisbury steaks his claim to it, he better clear up any potential copyright infringements with the Swanson TV dinner people who have a few decades of "brand" loyalty and goodwill established among the trailer park, barcolounging, tube of life market segment based on their own "Salisbury" brand.
(Hey, at a buck a piece, I'm good for a couple every once in awhile--know what I mean?).
And let's not forget about the potential impact on Nassau County's largest park.....renamed Eisenhower, but always known to old-timers as Salisbury Park.
Simply put, a case could be made that Sean is piggybacking the goodwill of other "Salisbury" brands to further his own success.

I'd be very careful Mr. Salisbury.......

hey sean salsibury, steak is a brand.

Does this have anything to do with him taking a photo of "little sean" and displaying it?

How many times has some one from espn been in trouble with some type of sexual harrassment situation? Its funny how espn wants to clean up sports that do the same things that Sean did, but they will never clean up themselves. Sean should have been fired faster then Don Imus after the phone situation.

Agreed Robert, expect that to be a point of contention in the Harold Reynolds suit working its way through the system.

sean came across as arrogant and stoopid. before he would give an analysis of any player he would lead by saying...'you know I love so and so but I wish he hadn't done this or that'...he was afraid to call out athletes when they did something stoopid. Goodbye.
