Radio show highlights Shea, Yankee Stadium finales

swoboda.jpgOur friends at www.sportstalknylive.com asked me to alert you to a special three-hour show from 8 to 11 p.m. EST tonight celebrating the upcoming final seasons at Shea and Yankee Stadiums.

Featured guests include Ron Swoboda, Don Maynard and Chuck Wepner.

You can listen by going to the Web site above.

Enjoy.

(Still listening to this Congress stuff. The absurdly partisan nature of the discussion illustrates the silliness of all this, as Representatives from both sides of the aisle have turned the hearing into cheap political grandstanding. Weird.)

Ranks right up there with the 1973 Watergate Hearings, eh Neil?

In 1973 I managed to leisurely paint my parent's small bedroom over the course of a week watching that circus act. And Watergate was important stuff. Over 300 hours of coverage over 4 months in 1973.
The way things are shaping up with this current earthshaking event, and by the time all the spouses and Walgreen's clerks are interviewed, we just might get close to another historic television event.

Oh, the agony.
Who's your pick for "Sam Ervin" wannabe, Neil?

Deb Clemens- Maureen Dean

I was at Rye Playland during Nixon's resignation speech. They played it over the loudspeakers.

Wasn't that place once known as "Freedomland"?
I still have that jingle in my head...."mommy and daddy take my hand, take me out to Freedomland!!!"

There's some kind of morbid Shakespearean or Hellerian (?) irony in that.......
Nixon's resignation speech being played over the loudspeakers at "Freedomland".

I believe it was called Playland when I was there. I had a banana boat for dessert that night. We left hours late because the father of the friend who took us was busy watching the coverage of the pending resignation.

Many years later I covered a number of Rangers practices there, including the one on the day Brian Leetch first reported.

Freedpmland was located in the Bronx. Playland is Rye.
