Sure, I'd write nice things about Marcellus Wiley even if he stunk, because I have a soft spot for former Ivy League jocks who become broadcasters.
But really, Wiley is an engaging, rising star in the ESPN galaxy. Now he has been tabbed to be one of the analysts for Arena Football League coverage, beginning March 1 with Dallas at Georgia on ABC.
Bob Wischusen will handle play-by-play for the opener. No more Mike and Mike!
I covered several Wiley games when he was at Columbia in the mid-1990s. I even saw him play running back there. When you're a good enough athlete, you can do pretty much whatever you want against merely average Ivy League players.
(I'll be at the Cornell-Princeton hockey game Saturday night, by the way. Autographs only between periods, please!)

Marcellus Wiley?
Is this a subliminal attempt by ESPN/ABC to coattail the popularity of Disney's sexploitation of the name Miley Cyrus?
Have the moguls at ESPN/ABC gotten so desperate that they are deviously luring the confused pubescent female 10-14 year old demographic to watch, of all things, arena football?
What's next?
Neil Best hawking "West of the Rockies" Hellman's mayonnaise?
How far can the madness extend??
Oh, there's my bong..........
I've got no problem with Wiley except when he took it upon himself to use Eli's full name (Elisha, except it's pronounced like Elijah) and he made it sound like he had a girl's name. Marcellus may be smart but I don't need to hear those attempts showing you're some intellectual with that crap, unless you're Tiki Barber and beyond saving.
CMG, I don't know that he is all that smart. When Columbia went on that god awful losing streak they got an Ivy League eligibility waiver, the team loaded up on Prop 48s, he may well be one. Best's alma mater had Prop 48s playing hockey and hoops when I was there. It happens, the degree does not make the man.
Craig: I remember when we shipped Roy Kerling off to Tompkins County Community College (TC3) to get his grades in order, then he came back to resume gaining fame and glory for our hockey squad. Not that there's anything wrong with that . . .
