Jim Fassel passed over for a chicken magnate

zorn%27s_logo.gifHere is an interesting interview with Jim Fassel conducted by WFAN's Mike Francesa and Chris Russo Monday afternoon.

I know I'm biased because the guy was very good to me over his seven years as the Giants' head coach, but I do feel bad for him about being passed over for the Redskins job.

Speaking of Jim Zorn, I remember how every time we visited my Uncle Bernie in Plainview in the late 1960s and and early '70s, he served us Zorn's chicken, which was so good it might have played a role in my mother finally deciding to take the plunge herself and move us from Hillside, N.J., to East Northport in 1972.

Or maybe not. I don't know. But there is no question the stuff was better than Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Good morning from a part of the nation where my wake-up call consisted of a weather report saying it's 2 below zero Fahrenheit.
But the snow is superb!
Zorn's poultry products are the first thing I think about when I hear the name ... not the former QB and soon-to-be-micromanaged Redskins coach. God help him.
Zorn's chicken is unsurpassed. The turkeys are a twice-annual event even in the Burger's palace. I'm glad they've stayed small.
And I'm glad the chickens aren't anywhere near Pedro Martinez!
[Though I say Juan Marichal's chicken had a nasty leg kick!]

I've continually mocked Fassel as a coach, but he was the right choice. He's not bad, just not the right guy. But nobody Danny Boy had on his short list was. Jim was the best in show, got the shaft. He went down swinging, makes me like him more, but I think that buries him with all teams not owned by Al Davis.

I heard Zorn will switch his chicken restaurant colors to Garnett and Black!

Geezus Best,

You are one trip down memory lane after another.
I grew up not far from the original Zorn's in Bethpage (on Hempstead Tpke). In the early 60's it was more than a food outlet, they had a little mini-zoo that was a weekly must visit for any post diaper toddler. I wasn' t aware that Zorn's still existed until I read your article and googled their website.
Sure enough, there they are.....still going out of business in the same location for over 65 years.
God Bless 'em.

Islander505: Uncle Bernie lives in Florida now. I saw him at a wedding a couple of years ago and my cousin who lives in Tampa insisted on treating him to dinner in honor of all the Zorn's he bought us in the late '60s and early '70s.
