Glauber comfortably behind, where he belongs

Cheryl_Tiegs.jpgBy the way, WatchDog Nation, I have a 28,000 page views lead on Glauber for February, but just in case he rallies late I want to make one thing clear:

If he passes me on Feb. 29 thanks to NFL free agency stuff, it does not count, as my contract clearly states "28 days hath February."

Islander505 and the rest of your regular readers deserve more Cheryl than this. It appears that you are resting on your page view lead. Don't let us down Best.

I'm not complaining...

Who's Glauber?

Glauber's a blogger. Writes a bit about football. Dreams of reaching the Best level of page views. Sometimes has some intersting activities at his place. Throw him a bone by clicking the link to his blog on the left under "Newsday Blogroll".

Here's a little CT flashback:

Thanks for the shoutout, although I think Islander505 was having a little "Best-like" fun, since he's come over to the dark side of "What About Bob."

Looks like our man Best is getting a little nervous about the page views. He'll probably get me this month again, but I've got a decent shot in April. Draft month and baseball will siphon off enough views for me to have a chance.

Let's hope that's the case, anyway. After all, it's a little nippy this time of year to be walking across the Brooklyn Bridge in a Speedo.

you spend to much time on that ?

I had that issue of Time for several years. I had a crush of Cheryl Tiegs growing up.

ken,you are so witty.

Well Ensign Best,
You've been trumped by Admiral Glauber.
I'm reporting for duty over at his blog.

Until you can answer a question that's been nagging me since 1986 (moved to area code 505), I'm gonna have to start clicking on Glaubers blog about a thousand times a day, through the end of the month.
I figure you are the most qualified to answer this question because:
A/You graduated from an Ivy League School and, through no fault of your own, must now be smarter then we mere MAAC grads.
B/Your last name
C/You are "The Media Watchdog" and therefore all knowing in all things media related including advertising and packaging.
D/Let's see how much you value my business.. ;)

The question is.....
Why is it that Hellman's Mayonnaise jars all have the disclaimer "Known as Best Foods West of the Rockies" written on their labels, yet Best Foods Mayonnaise jars out here in the Rockies do not have a reciprocal disclaimer on their label?
It's one of those things that really bugs me every time I walk down the condiment aisle. Hasn't translated into aisle rage yet, but I fear that very soon there might be a "Cleanup on Aisle 6" announcement at the local Albertsons.
I'm crying out for help here Neil!!!

(And yes, I am west of the rockies......looking out of my window right now at eastern edge of the Rockies....Sandia Peak-the sky is REALLY BLUE.............how's the traffic looking on RTE 110?)

The blogs may be Newsday's best [pun intended] and last hope.

We just had a newspaper shut down in my part of the world this past Saturday (ABQ Tribune).
Never a good thing.

For my part?
I can't understand why I am allowed to read and post all over this paper/website FOR FREE.
With as many people that I see on all the blogs, MANY FROM OUT OF STATE, I strongly suggest that Newsday give serious consideration to some type of MANDATORY subscription fee for access to the paper and ESPECIALLY the blog sites.
Certainly, it won't generate enough revenue to make you all independently wealthy, but HEY, C'MON...
I'm willing to pay for some milk here, Elsie's!!!!
And I am sure many others would as well.
Would you lose some "internet viewers"?
Sure....CYA, bye bye.

You folks need to realize that you have a quality product within this website. (except for Baumbach)
STOP GIVING IT AWAY.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I think many sites, www.nytimes.com for one, have found that free access generates more page views and more page views leads to higher site advertising rates. So if you want to shell out some dough, buy some of whatever they're selling in one of the ads I routinely ignore when I'm posting to the Best Blog.

Exactly right CC. New media business models realize higher revenues by giving away their content, which leads to more impressions (page views), uniques (users), visits, and "stickiness" (time spent on site).

Those greater totals lead to higher revenue than subscription-based models do.

I did not know that CC and DC..

I understand what you are saying.....but... as a simple old businessman....I've always had issues with any program that promises to "realize higher revenues by giving away content"...
Pardon me for being a tad old fashioned, but that's sounds a little oxymoronic.
Ever hear of "destroy the village so we could save it?"
That didn't work .
To me, all those vague nouveau cliches smack of 90 day Wharton business school graduates bringing their Johnny decoder rings and 'electronic parabolic economics matrixes" into a business model under a wolf's guise of fixing something that ain't broke.
I watched those same boy wonders come into the airline industry in the mid to late 90's with the same gobbledyspeak and in 5-6 years they DESTROYED the revenue stream and left the airlines in no position to weather 9/11.
And the airlines paid with a slew of bankruptcies post 9/11 and a LOT OF GOOD PEOPLE lost their livelihoods. (I left in 94). And it's taken them 7 years to show any kind of near recovery.

Now I am seeing the same "new ideas" "it's better to give it away for free" creap in over here, eh?

Where do I sign of for my "frequent blogger program"?

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Islander505: Here is a good answer for you. Hellman's lets you know they are known as Best Foods West of the Rockies because almost everybody in the west once lived in the east where best foods doesn't exist as a brand. Almost nobody in the east is dumb enough to move there from the west, so they don't wanna lose revenue. It's sorta like Hardee's becoming Carl's Jr. west of the Rockies, same brand, different name.

Islander, it's the same biz model as network TV - you get to watch "Friends" for free, but those ratings permit NBC to charge higher ad rates when you are watching commercials for Hellman's.

Now relax, and enjoy your comment contest winner of the week award.
