This week's comment contest winner is Islander505, who had a strong overall week by buttering me up with heavy duty early 1980s Anchorage, Alaska, trivia. Well played, sir!
He officially wins for the comment below about my Zorn's chicken tangent in the wake of the Redskins hiring a new head coach by that name.
It's all got me in the mood for my first visit to Zorn's in at least 30 years. I will be there Sunday to pick up a bucket for lunch. No autographs, please. But I will be available for pictures.
Here is Islander505's comment:
"Geezus Best,
You are one trip down memory lane after another.
I grew up not far from the original Zorn's in Bethpage (on Hempstead Tpke). In the early 60's it was more than a food outlet, they had a little mini-zoo that was a weekly must visit for any post diaper toddler. I wasn' t aware that Zorn's still existed until I read your article and googled their website.
Sure enough, there they are.....still going out of business in the same location for over 65 years.
God Bless 'em."

Which Zorns? Bethpage, East Meadow, or Bellmore?
I figured someone would ask that. I am visiting my sister in East Northport. Which is the closest to her?
Would have to be Bethpage.
Can I win again?!?!?!
And Glauber is gonna be all over you for continuing to post semi naked chicks on your blog.
Dude, THAT should have been the comment contest winner. You are a rising commenting star. Must be the Alaska background. Who the heck are you?
Logan can fill you in. I reside in his old "hood" right now.
As I said to him, just a great big small world.
I have been on Logan's blog for months now.
I drifted over to your blog this week cuz I gave myself a 3 day suspension (extended to 4 by "Steady", the self appointed Board Exterminator, for using words Steady couldn't spell, much less define) from Logan's blog after going to the "dark side" of commenting on Tuesday.
I am set to return to Logan's blog tomorrow.
Kinda like the whole Simon deal.
But I'll check in from time to time and try to win a contest.
Nothing like mental gymnastics to make the day go by.
I've dragged Zorn's Chickens to family events throughout the Northeast, including three separate parties for my then 1 year old son.
While the ones in East Meadow and Bellmore are good, only the Bethpage one tastes exactly the same way that I remember as a child.
I too remember the days of the farm, which included chickens. Some sly adult used to joke about seeing "tomorrow's dinner tonight" back there.

LOL
Speaking of Anchorage trivia......
Hey Neil,
Remember Dum Luck's Take Out on Spenard Road?
They were right next to the Anchorage Humane Society.
You could always adopt a puppy there, but they were a little light on kittens.
