Early reviews of Xanadu's appearance: not good

xanadu.jpgI was worried I was the only one who thought the Xanadu project at the Meadowlands looks like something out of a Toledo bowling alley, circa 1963.

It turns out there are others concerned with its appearance. (I assume this picture is an artist's rendition; it does not look like this currently.)

I hope the new Giants/Jets stadium - which you can have named after yourself for $25 million a year or so, by the way - is prettier.

Any word on who's getting the naming rights to the stadium?

Still a big mystery. I guess there are a limited number of companies with $30 million a year to spare.

Xanadu - XanaDONT. But not broadcasted by WCBS's Mike Xirinachs on copy made by a Xerox machine.
Why, oh why?
The construction was a living hell when I was at the Swamp for Nets, Devils, Jets or Giants games. A little less so for the Red Bulls.
It seems like such a waste. If that amount of money was spent around the Prudential Center in Newark ... it would make the easy and enjoyable trek to see the NHL East-leading Devils games [NJ Transit train or PATH] even better.

I agree this has a chance to be a total disaster. I remember hearing on WFAN prior to the Nets opener that the guy who heads the Meadowlands thinks even after the Nets leave for wherever (I'm starting to think it could be Newark) that the IZOD Center could still be used. WHAT?!?!? A dumpy building that could be used as a parking lot will stand with no tenant as a railway, stadium, and a bunch of other commercial stores is being built, not to mention the horrible traveling stories I hear about going to Giants Stadium last season because of construction.

I hope they start to downsize and be more real about what to put there. A shopping center in Jersey isn't really an original concept.

How about "Jet Blue Stadium" for the naming rights each seat can have its own television.

JetBlue is lucky they're not bankrupt right now. I think a good choice would be Apple. The Giants-Jets want a company with a legendary trademark. Hello, the Apple. Plus Mac has a store being built in that crazy Xanadu part so it could work. Call the stadium "The Big Apple". Or just to piss off the NJ pols, name it "New York Life Stadium".

The Teamsters union should sponsor it and name it after Jimmy Hoffa
