Cornell emerges as college hoops powerhouse

Baker.jpgOn Saturday night I attended the Cornell-Princeton tilt at Hobey Baker Rink, a very small, very cool (literally and figuratively) facility that opened in 1923.

Princeton inexplicably emerged with a lucky 2-1 victory, but the many Big Red fans in attendance took the loss with grace.

And why not?

Everyone knows Cornell is a basketball school. The Big Red is 18-5 overall, 10-0 in the Ivy League and poised this weekend to make my official guarantee last month of a league championship come true.

I'm hoping for a first-round rematch with Duke. But let's not get ahead of ourselves . . .

See what happens when you miss a couple days of posts, you miss a chance to meet Watch Dog. I was at Baker Rink too (stood in the section one over from Cornell's bench - went with a friend from Class of '92 (I'm an Oswego man, but love hockey). Didn't know you would be there until I saw last week's note about it last night.

Princeton was the better team, but I was impressed with the Cornell crowd - hope to see a game at Lynah next year.

Marc: Thanks for the note. All hockey fans should see a game at Lynah before they die.
