Sportswriters do not necessarily share your playoff joy
I now will share with you one of the deepest, darkest secrets of sports journalism:
The people who cover teams on a regular basis often dread them advancing deeply into the playoffs.
Sorry. But it's usually not because the reporters have anything against the players and coaches they cover, or the fans who derive enjoyment from the team's success, or the notion of working much harder for the same salary and ignoring their spouses, children, mail and personal grooming.
The primary reason is that when these things happen, everyone from mayors (see post from earlier today) to editors to fans to sports talk hosts inevitably acts very strangely, and scribes minding their own business get sucked into the vortex of nuttiness that invades our sacred, insular sportswriting world
Maybe that's wrong, but that's the way it is.
Now I will write the story my editor just assigned me about Craig Carton walking across the Brooklyn Bridge in a Speedo.
(That's not him in the picture.)

Just one question, Best: What could a picture of a man in briefs have to do with sportswriters whining about an increased workload in the playoffs?
And why no props for my "It is what is is" mentality when it comes to these things? You even said I was mature for not caring that more Giants' victories mean more work.
Mostly, though, I want to know what connection this picture has to the subject matter. Not that NKR minds it, but the sportswriters in the Giants press room gathered around the computer are wondering if you've gone off the deep end.
i think it is wishing for a vacation on the beach thing.
No, it must be a play off Carton walking over the Brooklyn Bridge in a Speedo.
Ugh, Neil, what gives dude.
You owe us at least 5 or 10 cheesecake pics to wipe that image from our corneas.
Where have you gone Natalia Sokolova, and Scarlett, and Alyssa, even the Doublemint twins....
Btw, Shockey should change his number after tomorrow.
bg,you like south park?
Neil is being awful quiet. Probably trying to distract us so he can write his column. I think I have heard him mention that is the job he gets paid to do.
