Mike Milbury on Jagr: 'His psyche is so fragile.'

190_milbury_mike_01.jpgI was so distracted by Giants-Packers this week I skipped right over an NBC release with great material from Mike Milbury that would have been more interesting than the boring stuff in my Friday newspaper column about NHL flex scheduling.

Would the WatchDog hockey people - Kenny Albert? Chris Botta? Don LaGreca? - please link this to the appropriate message boards so I can hold off Glauber's page views? Unless these comments are out there already. I don't know.

Here is Milbury on Jaromir Jagr: "The Rangers' problem is Jagr. He has to carry so much responsibility and his psyche is so fragile. At times he's been missing his buddy [Michael] Nylander or can't find chemistry with somebody else, but he's one of those guys that demands constant attention from the coaches, and you wonder whether it's worth it. He's one of the great all time players of the game, and he's frustrating. They'll go as good as he goes."

Here is Milbury on broadcasting: "I'm going to call the game as I see it and as I can relate to it. I'm entering the third period of my life here, and I've had experiences at every level. I just hope to be able to bring some measure of candor when it comes to the game and relate it to the experiences in my life.

"I didn't go to Bob Costas broadcasting school. I grew up in the hockey world. I carry my passion on my sleeve, and I'm not afraid to make a comment about somebody. When I think, for example, a guy is dogging it I'll let you know. I hope to go straight at it. I broadcast the way I played, obnoxiously."

Arrr, matey ... the Fishsticks logo lives!

And if Milbury's trying to be the cleaned-up US version of the one-and-only Don Cherry, I'll pass.
Just like NFL pre-game and halftime dreck.
Worthless.

Milbury topped out when he went into the stands at MSG as a Boston Bruin and knocked someone on the nog with a shoe.

I'll tune in only for the game action. And since "Doc" Emrick is calling it, you know you're listening to one of the best, ever.

Don LaGreca not LeGreca

What is it with lousy GMs like Milbury and Steve Phillips get TV analyst jobs. M Donald Grant would be making a fortune if he had been born 30 years later.
6 hours of fishing on Versus this afternoon. That's what cable TV was invented for!

"Fishing is an activity for small children or old men and I am neither" Calvin Coolidge

Any broadcast with Milbury on it will be far more entertaining because of him. Someone will make a fortune one day with a book of "Milbury-isms." You can never anticipate what he's going to say, but it's always interesting when he does. (and he didn't do a bad job on the Winter classic either.)

1) Just read MM's comments and they are spot on. We have been critics of Milbury through the years, but here everything that he is quoted as saying is 100% accurate. We'd be surprised if the Rangers' front office wouldn't agree (off the record of course)
2) JJ is a great talent. When he's on his game there have been few who can equal his ability. That said, he has been a temperamental, even childish at times in the way he handles himself. He needs constant coddling from team mates and coaches and frequently pouts/plays below his ability if he doesn't have things his way.
3) Jagr's refusal to do an interview(if true) would just confirm what Milbury stated about him
