If Giants lose, Bloomberg should just buy Green Bay

cheesecake.jpgNewsday has been all over the Giants-Packers game, as you would expect from your favorite newspaper/Web site/blob of blogs.

But I came across a particularly interesting nugget this morning that I wanted to highlight for you. It's a story about the mayors of New York and Green Bay wagering assorted highly caloric foodstuffs on the outcome of Sunday's Big Game.

(I thought Wisconsin was the fattest state, but I just checked and it's actually toward the flabby middle of the pack. Mississippi is the fattest state.)

See, everyone, this is the beauty of having one of our local squads advance deeply into the playoffs. It fosters community fun and creative thinking that generates new ideas for enhancing aforementioned fun.

Mayors making bets! Brilliant! The rest of us should follow their lead and come up with other innovative ways of marking this occasion.

Fans in Green Bay Sunday could do The Wave. After the game the President could call Tom Coughlin to congratulate him. Local TV newscasters could get very excited about the home team. Newspapers might consider special sections.

And, um, someone could dye bagels blue!
