How did Super Bowls XL and XLI occur without me?

phoenix.jpgI left the basement for this?! When I arrived in Phoenix Sunday night, it was chilly and . . . raining. It was my understanding it does not rain in Phoenix.

I know it did not when I was here for my first Super Bowl, back in 1996, when the Cowboys still were winning playoff games and Eli Manning wasn’t old enough to drive.

It’s all good, though. I've seen many of my old football writer pals already, and finally had to hide in Newsday's cubby hole deep in the bowels of the media center to get any work done.

Jim Baumbach just stopped by to bother me. They're so cute when they cover their first Super Bowl.

The sun is out as usual this Monday morning, and my hotel room has HDTV, so I can finally begin to understand what all you true believers are talking about when you e-mail me with your endless HD concerns.

I could have counted the hairs of stubble on Sal Paolantonio’s chin last night . . . if I had wanted to.

Finally Neil you get to see HDTV. Just stay in your hotel room Sunday and watch the Super Bowl on TV.

Damn, Neil. Get on the HDTV bandwagon already. I've had it since 2005.

How can a guy who writes about the media not have the latest greatest tools of the trade. Btw, I still have my first ever laptop from about 1999, I show it to people who want to see a relic of the past. You should have a new system every couple of years, especially given the work that you do.

They have a massive HDTV in the NFL Network green room. When I entered to speak to Rich Eisen earlier this afternoon, Carl Banks was staring at me from the screen, talking about the 1990 Giants. He looked very large. When I told Eisen I do not have HDTV he was stunned, given my job and all. Whatever.
