Dana Jacobson saga remains a tad fuzzy
Here is the latest on the strange case of Dana Jacobson from the paper that broke the story.
ESPN should just show me its tape of the incident, set the record straight and be done with it. They know where to find me.

Think before you blog.
If Ms. Jacobson's career or reputation has been hurt, can she sue? Should she sue?
I'd do it just on principle. Otherwise, this whole blogging fiasco that has been created will just collapse upon itself.
In the grand scheme of things, does this all really matter anyway? I mean, other than TV interviews, media exposure and page hits for the one doing it?
I think this whole blogging thing can be used for something much better than making up facts and getting people suspended/fired. Is the job of a journalist/blogger to give us the facts (with some opinion mixed in) or is their job to make stuff up?
Think before... is always good advice. That said Phil, what are you talking about? A sports media personality at a large semi public company event drunkenly cursing at the podium is news. And Dana did at least that much according to eyewitnesses. The debate is whether she simply cursed "touchdown Jesus" or cursed Jesus. Given that it was roast I would give her a pass regardless. But that's not the world we live in. Given the absence of malice I thought the Golf Channel episode should have passed when that individual apologized. But again, that's not how society and media function. Who and why should she sue? ESPN has the tape, if it did not happen there would be no suspension. Think before you comment.
So the media types can make a name for themselves by making a point of someone's bad judgement? And hurt their reputation? And maybe cost them their job in the process?
To protect us all, maybe ESPN shouldn't hold a roast anymore. Maybe they should ban alcohol on their property. Maybe they should ban all employees from even consuming alcohol.
We're just too damn sensitive today. Every little slip or blip by someone is suddenly magnified 10,000 times. News is made from non-issues. Tilghman's comment...stupid yes...that big of a deal...no way.
It's all about the page views, I guess. Maybe there should be a new stat, like how many people you've had a hand in getting fired or suspended to go along with your page views. Then we can tell how good you really are.
*sigh*
Several good points, Phil. The hyper sensitivity is awful. Likely I am less sympathetic to Dana because ESPN constantly plays gotcha with those they cover. I've nothing against her, and given the scene and circumstances a simple apology is enough. The TMZ/Page 6 coverage style has spread to sports, I can't imagine anything will stem the tide.
