NBC and the NHL were kind enough to invite me to the Sabres-Rangers game Wednesday night in advance of Sunday's debut of NHL coverage on NBC - if you don't count the "Winter Classic" on New Year's Day.
Producer Sam Flood, The Man Who Made it Snow in Buffalo, was in the Garden, but alas, he didn't bring the snow with him this time. So I didn't pay much attention to the game until the third period.
I spent part of my time not watching the game having a pleasant chat with Rockville Centre's own Ed Erickson, a loyal WatchDog reader and producer of WFAN's "Mike and the Mad Dog Show."
Mr. Erickson is a voice of reason capable of creating a bridge of understanding between we here at SportsWatch/WatchDog headquarters and certain sports talk hosts in Astoria who sometimes grow frustrated with us.
Sources close to Erickson say he and Chris Russo will be broadcasting from Green Bay Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Russo said on the air recently he would like to see a big playoff game at Lambeau Field before he dies. I assume he's going to stay for the game. So check that one off the list.
Mike Francesa apparently will man the home front.

Neil -- you are the -- BEST!!!!
At the same time, you assume too much with the RACIST, ARROGANT russo.
His continuous, unrelenting lack of understanding of the 20th century APPARENTLY didn't bother anyone.
Now, though, his STUPIDITY along with his COMPLICITY with HEIR FATMAN is beginning to call the attention of the YES crowd.
Personally, I don't know what the Tri-State Region will do without The Skipper's Badger-stripe hairdo and The Ghost of Steve Rubell's comb-over..
Maybe there's more famous racists, but minute for minute, these guys got the prize!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've always wondered how Mr. "Poorly Produced" can stand working with those two bozoes. Maybe you asked him.
And I guess WFAN or WNBC couldn't split the cost of a cargo plane to bring Mikey up to the land of Starr, Dowler, touchdown!
Guess too much complicated broadcast logistics [and cost of same] keeps Mikey in NY for the Sunday radio and tv shows ... nor could they find out how to buy out Chesebrough-Ponds to get enough Vaseline ... [see Mikey's Ditka reference from this week].
They don't have Diet Coke in Green Bay?
ROTFLMAO
It's kind of touching that Chris Russo will fulfill his lifetime dream but why has he taken so long to do so? He's had this job for 20 years now. Better late than never.
enjoy the 3 hours of LeMans racing on SPEED at noon starting at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium (still the greatest racetrack in the world), Silverstone, England and Interlagos, Brazil followed by the Paul Mitchell Progression session snowboarding at 4 PM on Versus, the home of the NHL.
Comment of the week for Wawa...hahahahah.
Is there Diet Coke in Green Bay? Or does it all just stay frozen from November to April? :)
The world is all upside down. How can Mike and The Dog be the dominant sports show around. Mr. Arrogant (I repeat myself every other sentence) and Mr. Clueless (there is no excuse for a highly paid professional to obliterate the English language and who cannot handle pronunciation of anyone's name.....)
Why aren't the top guys on the air Ed Coleman and Richard Neer, the true pros, the standard bearers?
Because controversy sells....and the public may be stupid enough to swallow the hype and drink their KoolAid.
It's as if the D and F students are the Valedictorians
As Imus used to say "they are unwatchable"..

This is as good a spot for this comment as anywhere:
I listen to WFAN shows through the Internet because I live on a warm beach. Normally, internet broadcasts do not broadcast the over the air commercials and have their own or dead air. Over the Christmas holidays, WFAN took the time to thank the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and wish them Happy Holidays. They did this by having most of the on-air crew send their best wishes. Boomer and Carton did, Steve Somers did, John Minko did, Evan and Joe did. No Mike and the Mad Dog that I heard in 3 weeks, the two most respected and influential voices this station has. There is absolutely no excuse, (NONE!!) these two can offer for not doing this. Enough said about these two.
Mike and Chris were off Christmas week when the recordings were made. This has been brought up at MikeFrancesa.com. They are by no means perfect, but let's face it the second they go off the air, people will miss them very quickly. They are the best sports radio show in the country, and they still have the ratings to prove it. Trust me, Mike and Chris are not crying over the negative blog posts about them- they are counting their millions
EVERYONE KEEPS SAYING DIET COKE. WHICH IT WAS? BUT LATELY I HAVENT SEEN THE LABEL ON THE BOTTLE. MAYBE ITS HENNESSEY.
CHRIS MAY BE RACIST BUT I LOVE HIM. HES THE BEST AND ON SATURDAY HE ACTUALLY LETS CALLERS SPEAK. RENEMBER THAT. I CANT WAIT TO HEAR CHRIS ALL WEEKEND.
AND (EXPLETIVE) MIKEFRANCESA.COM.
Like I said--audio tape exists--no excuses A Fan! Vacation or not it should have been done either before they left or on a Friday when they did their football shows and weren't "on vacation." The spots continued after the New Year until the end of last week, were they still on vacation?
