USA Today's NBA staff reportedly going, going gone

USAToday.jpgCheck out this fascinating/scary story about the USA Today NBA staff disappearing in one fell swoop. (Thanks for the tip to our friends at The Big Lead.)

Here's an important thing to keep in mind if you enjoy reading the blogosphere, listening to talk radio and watching TV for sports opinions and information:

If the working stiffs at the nation's newspapers (and sometimes magazines) who actually do most of the legwork continue to dry up and blow away in the current tough business environment, there won't be much for everyone else to talk about.

Sigh.

Enjoy that special tonight about ESPN's "This is SportsCenter" campaign. I'm actually looking forward to it.

they should talk to kuby.

Back in the early 1960s the "New York Tines" would use wire stories to cover the NBA finals. Not their own writers. Of course back then the finals ended in mid-April.

Re: This Is SportsCenter

I'm loving this, too bad ESPN loves to put their BottomLine scoring bug at the bottom of the screen practically 24/7.

I used to think that way. Now I see these changes as an opportunity for greater focus on everything that's said on ESPN. That should keep a lot of people busy.

there will always be sports news for bloggers to write about. i'm not a nba fan, but it is a bummer when people get laid off.
