Tom Glavine is a far, far better actor than Nolan Ryan

06-15-2004_ryan.jpgAs I was watching this clip of Nolan Ryan's appearance on the soap opera "Ryan's Hope" many, many moons ago, I was thinking of clever wisecracks to make about the characters' failure to bring up his trade from the Mets.

Then, sure enough, one did! Good job, people.

As for Ryan's acting, let's just say it is not quite up to the standards of Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux (see link in post below). Not even remotely close. Scary.

(Too bad Glavine couldn't have put those acting skills to use by pretending to be at least a little bothered by his performance in the Mets' finale.)

Boy, Raisman in the news says Joe B almost went to ESPN Radio. Considering Joe B is lucky to have a job at the fan, he should be a bit more loyal. I think the fan should just get it over with and give carlin/jones the midday. Move Joe B back to nights. Enough all ready...

I assume if Joe B. had left Kim would have been in the mix, but I don't know that for a fact.

The heck with Nolan Ryan, a young Kate Mulgrew as Mary Ryan - that was the best part of that clip. Kate Mulgrew is also an answer to my best Star Trek related trivia question. In what made for TV movie did three actors and / or actresses eventually play leading roles in three different Star Trek series? The answer of course if Roots: The Gift a 1988 revival of the Roots miniseries in which Levar Burton (Kunte Kinte and eventually Star Trek: The Next Generation) stars along with Mulgrew (who played Captain Janeway on Star Trek Voyager) and Avery Brooks (who played Capain Sisko on Star Trek Deep Space Nine). Feel free to confound your annoying Trekie friends with that one.

Wow. It's time for me to retire and hand this job over to J. Philips.

Best, you haven't even met John Phillips and you're ready to retire and give him your job?

I gave you 10 years of my life on the football beat, and all you do is make fun of me. That's just not fair.

JP: The best line of King's colonoscopy blog entry had nothing to do with the procedure itself. He wrote about taking all this stuff the day before the procedure, and how he was on an airplane when it "kicked in," so to speak. The salient line of the piece was something like, "As soon as I got off the plane at Newark Airport, I walked to the bathroom with as much human dignity as possible."

Neil, I'm sorry for interrupting yet again. I'm know, I'm hopeless. I have a column to write off the Giants-Eagles game.

I'll try and leave your blog alone, but I make no promises.
