Sports Illustrated . . . not quite dead yet!

p1_everett.jpgBack on Oct. 31 I wrote an unkind post about the problems at SI and its diminished place in the sports media firmament and threats from the likes of ESPN unloading dump trucks full of cash onto Rick Reilly's front lawn.

Well . . . it was all a tad overstated and overwrought, and in fact SI lately has managed to do what it has done for decades - crank out exclusive, well-written magazine articles that should even be of interest to the people under 40 who allegedly don't read those anymore.

Case in point: This week's piece on the Bills' Kevin Everett, in his first extensive interview since nearly losing his life earlier this season.

It's by Tim Layden, a long-time friend and former Newsday star who still does pretty well with this reporting and writing stuff . . . for an old guy.

Peter King, Tom Verducci, Jon Heyman, Damon Hack, Kostya Kennedy, Mike Bevans . . .

and that is just the b team.the a team is still in place.

Nice save, jeff.

Newsday is the Kansas City A's of SI...
