Joe Theismann comes off quite well in this piece in The Washingtonian, in which he mostly resists firing back at ESPN for canning him after last season.
He does have some interesting stuff to say about his former partner, Tony Kornheiser, including this gem:
"Tony is the most neurotic person I’ve ever known in my life. I mean, God bless Amy Shapiro, his assistant. She’s a saint. She makes sure he has his pretzel. She makes sure he has his face cloth. She makes sure he gets someplace on time. She handles all his scheduling. She’s marvelous at taking care of him. He doesn’t pay her enough. You can put that in big print—'Tony, you don’t pay Amy enough to put up with you.”'
I've worked with Amy and can confirm her indispensability.
Anyway . . . I'd be shocked if Tony comes back for a third season in 2008. If so, ESPN should just leave Tirico and Jaws alone in the booth and be done with it.

a little off topic neil.but any thought to bloging about the beauty and lore of an old time favorite rosevelt raceway. at its hey day it was a fun place to be. so much history.
I used to see Tony Sisti at Northport High basketball games when his grandson and my nephew were playing together.
that just about covers it,thanks.
that just about covers it,thanks.
I'm just glad you posted the stretcher and not the hit that broke his leg. It was LT that hit him, right? I was living in MD at the time and that video played over and over on TV.
How could you say you lived in MD and saw the play all over tv and NOT remember LT was the one who did it????
Neil, I don't agree that Tony Kornheiser will leave the MNF booth after this season because, I think he is having fun doing the games with Tirico and Jaws. He is haivng more fun than he ever had in my opinon last season with that windbag and gasbag Joe Theisman. By the way, Joe its time to shut up aout being fired from MNF.... Enough!
There was a period of time during last night's game (I believe it was during the Saints' 99-yard drive), where it was just Mike doing PBP and Jaws with analysis. For those three minutes of game time, before Tony chimed in, it was the most pleasant listening experience I have ever heard from an ESPN-covered event. Just a description of the plays and Jaws with strategy/analysis.
If Tony were to leave, I believe the viewer will be best served as the telecasts will be streamlined, and the mindless banter will disappear.
And I actually like Tony. But he is not good on MNF.
Bo, my poor brain isn't what it used to be. That was over 20 years ago!
NKR:
Do you remember Chuck Bednarik? The guy he hit was romantically linked to a famous Kathie Lee/Cathy Lee, as well.
I'm not THAT old! But after looking him up in Wikipedia, that is a very interesting parallel.
Are YOU that old?
