Former YES boss now works for John Edwards

hindery111.jpgBack in 2002, Newsday used to do a daily update on the Cablevision vs. YES carriage dispute, even when nothing was happening.

I sometimes was recruited to do this unfortunate duty, which involved calling then YES boss Leo Hindery for updates on . . . nothing.

He was nice about it. Now he's a fund-raiser for John Edwards' Presidential campaign.

I had a nice chat at the NBC holiday party Wednesday with David Barron, the sports media writer of the Houston Chronicle. He happened to be in town for some other reason and was able to attend.

Unlike on the football beat, where writers regularly run into and socialize with their counterparts around the nation, the sports media beat is an insular, relatively lonely world. So it's always nice to meet one of the few other people who have a job like mine.

Now I'm back in my basement. Sigh.
