Brian Westbrook stuns/horrifies the fantasy universe

Brian_Westbrook.jpgIf I didn't have a newspaper column to write, I'd spend the afternoon lurking around Fantasy Football message boards reading the angst of players who suffered from arguably the most bizarre moment the "sport" ever has seen:

Brian Westbrook's flop at the 1-yard line in Sunday's Eagles-Cowboys game.

With Westbrook a key player for many teams and many leagues conducting playoffs this week, there might never have been a more shocking, impactful event in fantasy history.

I was relieved to see him do it, myself, as I had benched him in favor of Marion Barber.

No matter. My team was blown away in the semifinals. I'd tell you more about that if it were not for this blog's strict policy against fantasy whining.

Mike Greenberg, appearing as a guest on his own show (he was on Good Morning America to promote Duel and called into "Mike and Mike") called it one of the smartest and most unselfish plays he's ever seen.

As long as Joe Pisarcik and Larry Csonka were nowhere nearby, I'd agree.

Csonka botched hand-off from YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=090pEcveMIE

Fantasy players need to get over how "bizzarre" it was. It was the right thing to do and it should happen more often.

Like in the Jet/Browns game when Jamal Lewis ran for a spread covering touchdown when he should have knelt down after making the first down. Fantasy and Browns bettors rejoice! Common sense takes a hit!

Single best moment of the NFL 2007. Smart and unselfish. That it screwed some of the fantasy geeks makes it even better.

It was a smart play...I can't believe on other blogs there are idiots saying what if the Eagles had muffed the snap...there is no safer play in football than snapping and taking a knee...I have never seen that fouled up...with the other team out of time outs and less than 2 minutes and 40 seconds left in the game, any first down by the leading team as long as the player doesn't go out of bounds should end the game...but then again you have morons like Herm Edwards several years ago against Tennessee who didn't know that in one game when he makes the idiotic statement, "we're running the ball" after handing off on a play with the titanics out of time outs and less than 2 minutes left and just the week before there was Jamal Lewis of the Browns who scored that td with less than 1 minute 20 left and the Jets with 1 time out which also should end the game with kneel downs but he scored a touchdown and then we saw the Jets kick a fg and the Browns have to defend an onside kick....too bad too many players and coaches don't know the rule and have no clue when to do that....example...you're leading by 1 point, the other team is out of time outs or does not have enough time outs left to keep you from killing the clock with kneel downs and a pass into the flat is intercepted and returned for a touchdown...imbecilic play because now you probably lead by 8 and the other team still can go down and score a touchwon with a w piont job and tie you and yes, I've seen that happen several times.....but coaches and players just don't have the brains to know when to go down.

Congratulatons to Westbrook and boo on Andy Reid who apparently had not told the players this is what you have to do and Westbrook did it on his own.
