WFAN makes it official: Joe Girardi on board

girardi_joe1012.jpgJust after 3 p.m. Mike Francesa announced on WFAN that new Yankees manager Joe Girardi will be joining the station for a weekly spot - in the same 5:05 p.m. slot formerly occupied by Joe Torre.

This confirmed news of the hiring that first appeared on mikefrancesa.com early Saturday and was confirmed later in the weekend by WatchDog.

I'll save my highly educated guesstimate of Joe G.'s salary for my Tuesday column. But my understanding is that it's even more than Mr. Torre got for the same gig. Yikes!

Are you saying that Torre's contract from WFAN was insulting?

wow. wonder how much willie randolph is getting paid to go on wfan, if joe g. is getting more than joe t.

so neil, whats the wfan policy for wabc in the morning? cbs radio gonna ban personalities like what espn did to wfan?

Sheila: I don't know.

Neil, good column on tuesday. But you had chernoff on the phone talking about espn banning its guys from wfan. what about wfan banning its guys from other stations.

I read somewhere that Girardi will get $350,000 from the FAN for his weekly spots this year. Is that possible???????????

I assume you read it in my column. Not sure whether or not it's been written elsewhere. Maybe it was. I don't/can't read everything!

Neil - yes I read it in Newsday. Is this a standard fee for WFAN guests? Seems a bit high to me.
Annie

Standard fee? Um, no. I'm guessing Antonio Pierce gets less than that.

$350,000 seems a bit excessive. Especially when you
consider that Girardi will be able to learn from one of the
great baseball strategists ever in Mike "Manhasset Fats"
Francessa.

(There's another guy in studio with him directing air
traffic. But I can't renember his name.)
