Pittsburgh very much enjoys its Steelers

art-rooney3_gif.jpgSports Business Journal this week has an extensive report on the power of sports brands in various markets.

Not surprisingly, the Steelers of Pittsburgh rank No. 1 on the list

Surprisingly, the Patriots of Foxboro rank second, ahead of the Red Sox.

There is some concerning stuff in this study, including large margins for error and the bias of teams' recent successes (or lack thereof) on the field.

Still, it's worth checking out. (I hope the link works if you are not a subscriber. Sorry if it does not.)

I saw this article and they had the Yankees which drew over 4 million people and have a franchise worth S1.2 billion at 29th? I can't take it too seriously. It seems too weighted to smaller cities which have only a few teams. But I do have relatives in Western PA so I know about their deep love for the Steelers.

I'll say there's margin for error. The Atlanta Braves at #24? They rank behind high school football in importance in Georgia.

Neil, I keep trying to comment but get this:Thank you for commenting.

Neil,

I have Don Imus news! I expect the page views to start pouring in. Give me a link!

Jeff, I've been getting those messages for a while. It usually happens when my comments include even the most slightly off-color reference. What'd you say?

Hey Best, how about taking this issue to your WebMaster. Find out where these things go. It could be a Homeland Security thing, where they randomly steal blog posts to review for possible terroristic threats. Who the hello knows.

I always select all and copy my comment prior to posting, so I don't have to try and re-write my Words of Wisdom, leaving out the offensive stuff, whatever that might be.

Getting ready to post; wish me luck!

After vacation I am going to ask my Web dudes to explain this problem to me so I can share with commentors exactly what is or is not acceptable. I've had comments I tried to post myself bounced back!
