Friday comment contest winner baffled by drunk fans

pg2_w_jets_195.jpgTough week for the Jets, whose players flopped in Texas after their fans flopped even more embarrassingly last weekend at the instantly infamous Gate D.

Our comment contest winner, loyal commenter Phil from LI, weighed in on the latter subject with this post:

"I'm 29 and I never understood the lunkhead drunks I see at every game. What is it with everyone?

"Why does everyone complain about how high the ticket prices are yet they seem willing to pay any amount of money for a beer.

"The sad part is a lot of these idiots actually drive home.

"Tell me again, please, is the game better when viewed through inebriated eyes? And, what gives half the people at these games the right to behave like imbeciles? Yelling, screaming, cursing...that's all part of a game. But the drinking has gotten out of hand.

"Do people go to a game to get drunk or watch the contest? When you all figure this out, let me know."

Thanks, Neil. It is an honor to be picked as the best out of hundreds of comments.
In that post you mentioned that the games seem to be taken over by "drunk 22 year olds". I see a lot of them and quite a few "older" folks that are the same. I would have said to just ban alcohol altogether, but I was afraid I'd touch a nerve.
And I'm not talking only football games. It's games at the Coliseum, the Garden, Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium...it's pretty sad.

Guy at concession stand (to friend): yeah man my frickin taxes are through the roof, these tickets are so expensive and my kid needs braces, I can't handle this.
Guy (to worker behind counter): uhhh yeah, gimme two beers
worker: That's 15 bucks (or whatever the price of two beers is...)
Guy: here ya go...
Guy (to friend): Uggggh, everything is so damn expensive today....

Thanks again Neil.

No, thank you! If my plan to raise the drinking age to 47 makes it through Albany I will see about getting an exception in the bill for you, as you seem mature enough to handle it.

Only one problem, Best. If the plan gets through Albany, it still won't apply to Giants Stadium. Maybe you can pull a few strings with Gov. Corzine, too. Or else ask Pat Hanlon to put a good word in for you.

I have contacts in Albany and Trenton. I'm on it.

That's why you are the Best, Best! Happy Thanksgiving to you, Mrs. Watchdog and the little Watchdogs.

People like to go to games and have a few. If they want to spend 8 bucks for a watered down beer than why is it any concern to anyone else? When the drunks start harrassing people thats when we got a problem.

I've been to thousands of games. I can count on my hand how many game experiences have been ruined by a crowd of drunks.
