Benigno/Roberts travel through time with Marv
I forgot to mention this in my post two spots down, but whoever put together the opening sequence for the Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts show on WFAN today did a terrific job.
The station juxtaposed audio of Marv Albert calling Knicks games in 1970 with his call of Thursday night's nightmare.
Extremely cool.
(By the way, it's 2:15 and WFAN's afternoon show hasn't mentioned the Knicks yet. I'm organizing a pool to guess when they do. Get your picks in now!)
(Update: If you had 3:25 p.m., nearly 2 1/2 hours into the show, you won!)

They will mention it, but one of them will say "I didn't see the game", but of course they will give their expert arrogant opinions on the NBA down the road.
My only guarantee is that, if mentioned at all, it will be before Rangers / Islanders!
Who had 3:26???? Figures, Francessa says he didnt put it on until the 4th quarter. God forbid the guys would actually TIVO something and do some research.
Haaaa Francessa: "I didn't see the game, so I can't comment", yet he laughs and asks for highlites of the game so he can see what happened. Does he actually host a talk show in NYC and do no research on the biggest sports story of the day?
Francessa: "I haven't been to a Knick game in years, I can't stand to watch them on TV" , yet in the same breath give his expert opinion on the team. He gives great commentary on the newspaper articles that Francessa!
Its openings like that which have made Benigno/Roberts such an up and coming listen. As far as Francessa.Russo are concerned, I'm amazed at how much complaining there is about a show that is so popular.
I'm just bummed out that Mike and Chris didn't discover that New York Observer piece about life on the Knicks beat until late this afternoon. Didn't they read my blog link to it Wednesday!?! Sigh.
The biggest sports story of the day for the radio station that carries the Mets was announcing the trade of Lastings Milledge. That's how they opened the show and why they got to other stories later.
After an hour on Packers-Cowboys.
ANY TIME Screech shuts up for more than thirty seconds is monumental on that show!

I'm a Nets fan and I've probably watched more Knicks games than those guys. Those guys talk about baseball so much ad nauseum it's amazing. Even Russo admitted they would probably talk some baseball on their Super Bowl road show. Baseball's the only sport that they both share some acceptable knowledge in. Their football talk only really happens on Fridays and Mondays which involves ,press conference audio, interviews, picks, and TV ratings. They don't really interview a lot of football people unless it's old-timers. Rarely current. Don't even get them talking about hockey though and thankfully they don't. Russo had to defend himself for over an hour saying Mike Richter was better than Brodeur.
It's so true that so many times they began a sentence with "Now I didn't see this game BUT.......". Don't take what happens next seriously once they say that.
