Suzyn Waldman makes news again, sort of

sammy_davis_jr..jpgEarlier I did my obligatory Imus post for the day, so why not the daily Suzyn Waldman post? Here it is:

Steiner Sports currently is selling through an on-line auction a unique piece of Rat Pack memorabilia that was consigned by none other than Ms. Waldman.

It's a "religious register of marriage'' for Sammy Davis Jr. and May Britt. It includes signatures from Davis pals Frank Sinatra and Peter Lawford.

The document was issued by Temple Israel of Hollywood in 1960.

Waldman had had the item for 30 years after receiving it from a friend. She used to be a theater actress and singer and is a long-time fan of the late Davis, who converted to Judaism in the 1950s.

Now you know.

In a weird conicidence, my 7th grade son came home from school yesterday and told me that in his music class, the teacher showed a video clip from something called the Ed Sullivan Show featuring singers named "Elrod Fitzgerald and Jimmy Davis Jr." I noted that maybe he meant "Ella Fitzgerald and Sammy Davis Jr." and he went "Yeah, he was a little guy with a small beard and mustache and he was doing this funny laugh where he stomped his knee with his hand while he had a cigarette in the other hand." I wanted to pull out my tape of Sammy's appearance on All in the Family and explain all about the glass eye, the Rat Pack, and the Jerry Lewis telethon, but decided I'd better wait a few years for that.
