Here is the rest of my Ray Lucas column

lucas_sm.jpgI wrote a Sunday column about Ray Lucas, SNY's unpredictable Jets analyst, whose work has gotten more entertaining the worse the team has gotten on the field.

Alas, as sometimes happens in the newspaper business, breaking news took up more space than anticipated, causing our able Sunday edition staff to cut off a chunk of the column.

No worries. I sent too many words anyway. Through the magic of cyberspace, watch this trick:

You can read the part of the column that appeared in Newsday here, and read the rest of it by clicking below. What will they think of next, electric can openers?

PICK THINGS UP HERE FROM END OF COLUMN LINKED ABOVE:

There was little negative to say about the team in 2006, but as things have gone wrong this year producer Will O’Toole said SNY’s analysts have “cleared up the misconception they’re just flat-out homers; it’s time to be critical, and they are.’’

True enough. “They can’t stop anybody with a bulldozer,’’ an exasperated Lucas said after one replay Tuesday.

Later, when the cameras were off, he said, “I miss football like you can’t possibly imagine.’’

Then he reminded himself how depressed the “strong-minded kid’’ he used to know had gotten not long ago, and vowed not to let that happen again.

“My aspect on life is every day I wake up, open my eyes and take a breath,’’ he said. “I have nothing to complain about . . . Who has it better than me?’’
