Tom House had it really easy compared to this

scrum-m.jpgThanks to our friends at Deadspin for pointing out this amazing piece of video from a fan sitting near our own Mr. Murphy from Queens Tuesday night in S.F.

I guess it's a good thing the ball didn't go into McCovey Cove, where there would have been widespread drownings rather than a few bumps and bruises and cuts.

Would I have dived into that mess for $500,000? Well, yeah, I'd have to say I would.

I've never gotten a foul ball at a major league game. I got several when I covered the Anchorage Glacier Pilots and the balls used to fly back into the press box on a regular basis.

I've never come away with a puck at a hockey game either.

I have to go now.

Years ago, I once caught a ball tossed into the stands by a Met (don't remember who) that was more than likely meant for a kid. Once I saw the kid start to cry, I could do nothing except give the ball to him, which made his day (and also mine). I never came close to a foul ball.

BTW, great interview on The Big Lead. Might I be the first to toot your horn and direct readers to:

Enjoyed your interview with The Big Lead. You are rising in the ranks of bloggers quickly. Next thing we know - you will be writing the weekends at deadspin.com

Wow. I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet! But thanks for the compliment. Neil

Here is why I love reading the Watchdog. While Neil takes his profession seriously, he realizes that he (and the readers) need to have fun and be entertained while still getting to the heart of the matter.

Thanks, Anthony. I'm tearing up.
