Boomer Sooner for WFAN

bobbleheads2.jpgHere is an article I wrote in Monday's newspaper about this ongoing WFAN morning slot matter, for those of you who read the blog but not Newsday or its Web site.

(I have a fan club in Idaho, by the way. Well, at least one loyal reader there, anyway. I asked him to start an Idaho fan club for me. He said he didn't have time. I once spent 10 minutes in Idaho, just to drive across the border. I've been to all 50 states.)

Of course, Boomer's "imminent'' hiring by WFAN is far from the end of the story, and I learned my lesson last week about saying I would stop following it. Who will be in Boomer's supporting cast? How will Al Sharpton feel about controversial central N.J. shock jock Craig Carton possibly joining Esiason? Where will Imus end up? How early will Boomer have to wake up to get on the air at 6 a.m.?

Don't touch that dial!

Neil,

Will Boomer ever wake up?

Haven't seen anything on WFAN ratings. Are the books out yet for WFAN?

ChanX

WFAN was up slightly in mornings for men 25-54 in the spring, down significantly among all adults.

ESPN 1050 way down among men 25-54 in mornings.

All I can say is CBS is being run by a bunch of idiots...this President of CBS who is afraid to admit he made a mistake is going about hurting his flagship radio staton big time by not swallowing his pride and taking Imus back.

What an incredibly stupid move this is.

I just finished to Perfectly Acceptable Radio this morning from Carlin and Kim.

Boomer is going to be a big waste of money, and that Carton guy is a pig.

And I don't care about Imus one way or the other.

Neil, with all do respect does anyone really care what "Al" thinks...ah, that's right he doesn't.

Please don't bring him (Al) into this.

If people aren't listening to the FAN or ESPN what's going on?

Thanks Neil for being our eyes and ears..

Neil, is it Moonves that is the reason that WFAN will forego all that morning ad revenue and hire an NFL QB to replace a radio legend? (mccord and mike seemed so confident in late june). Please elaborate.

Moonves is more into Television then Radio? Moonves, is into Programing TV.
There is an online article, an interview with Howard Stern, about Moonves threatening to sue him, when he left for Sirius. Howard Stern critiques Moonves, I am going to have to go with the king of all media on this one, I think he nailed Moonves.

I too drove into Idaho for about 10 minutes or so - just to check the state off my list (I crossed just to the east of Jackson, Wyoming). I'm nowhere near close to all 50 states.

As for the Imus saga, I go wherever the cowboy hat goes. No Boomer for me.

Ideally, I would like to see Imus back, but as for all of the fill-ins, Boomer was clearly the best, although I hate the fact he roots for that Manhattan hockey team, but so be it. And if they want to cover all of the basis, I have said before he and Ms. Crowley did an excellent job as a duo. Covers both the political & sports. I am sure thaough I will end up going back and forth, get all angles.

Neil,

Your competition and muse is back from vacation. He is one of your peers- a writer which one?

Sometimes you have to fake it.
