TNA's Big Announcement
I may not know the exact way to perfectly execute a German suplex, or how to best conceal a razor blade after introducing some "juice" into a match. But this much I have learned from my years of being a wrestling fan:
Whenever a wrestling promotion promises a "major announcement," brace yourself for disappointment.
The latest culprit will likely be TNA, which is promising an announcement from Mick Foley this week that will change the face of wrestling.
All I can say is, fool me once shame on you. You know the rest. Major announcements by wrestling companies have included such letdowns as predictable heel turns, to DVD sales. I'm not biting this time around. My best guess is that Foley will announce he is coming out of retirement to be a "full time" wrestler again. With TNA running a far lighter schedule than WWE, it's conceivable that he could deliver on that promise.
Actually, that would be on the high end of what TNA could deliver. And while it may be a bit much to say that Foley's return would turn the wrestling world on its ear, it would be a fairly newsworthy happening.
But, with Vince Russo at the writing helm, there's a very good possibility the announcement will be far, far less significant.
Actually, what TNA is not hyping enough, and really is a major event, is the company's shift to high definition. I don't mean to be a TV snob, but since getting a decent flat screen last year with HD capability, I can barely stand watching anything that's not HD. And since WWE went HD in January, watching TNA's non-HD product has especially been a chore. I can't emphasize enough what a difference HD makes.
I hope to be interviewing Foley today, and will try to get some hints out of him and be back here with a transcript of our interview in the next day or two.

My favorite was still ROH's "major announcement" from earlier this year, and offer a 2-for-1 ticket sale.
(In fairness to ROH though, that press release only went to the media - like Alfonso himself - instead of being communicated as a "major" announcement directly to its fans).

TNA in HD. Wow. I'll get a crisp look at the 273 people in the audience.
Am I the only one thinking that the announcement is the move to HD? Either that or Mick Foley's giving away a million dollars of his own money every week.
**Spoiler Alert**
The big announcement is that TNA's shows will be 7% more watchable. While it is a small step i think it is the right move!
The announcement could be both. Remember when Jim Cornette came out and announced that TNA was moving to prime time & that also Kurt Angle was the newest TNA superstar.
They've copied enough of Angle's storylines with Foley, it wouldn't surprise me if they did it again.
TNA makes a major announcement every 2-3 months. And most of them are seen coming from a mile away, even as a TNA fan it gets old.
You're right about HD. It makes such a huge difference and sometimes I wonder how I could have watched anything before. TNA should make the move to HD.
The major announcement will be a TNA World title match amongst Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley himself, and TNA World champion Sting in TNA's newest original match concept -- GERIATRIC X!
Too bad John Morrison & The Miz used that for DX last night; it sounds better as a custom-made TNA joke.
