My turn with some trivia ...
Before I get to the trivia, I must give major props to my fellow blogger Alfonso -- on Monday, the very day that Alfonso scored an exclusive interview with the infamous Martin Tankleff -- he posted not just one, but two blog posts about CM Punk winning the World Title. Now THAT'S a wresting fan.
Anyway, on to my trivia question -- when was the last time Triple H won a world title (World or WWE) in a match that did not involve Randy Orton?

Armaggedon 2003 in a triple threat against Kane and reigning champion Goldberg. I didn't care for the match and was shocked Trips won the belt after only losing to Goldberg in September.
that match suffered from the unfortunate problem of being rubbish
kane was put in randomly and hunter and goldbery was never really interesting. they never went with the goldberg-batista match that would've been far more intriguing. batista was raw at the time but had come back from injury massively over after it was revealed he took out goldberg and claimed evolution's bounty on him.
That's right! I was thinking farther back... a year before over michaels in the three stages of hell... Damn! That's still 5 years!
I'm probably wrong, but did Orton interfere in that triple threat? I just seem to remember Evolution raising each other's hands on the stage. If so the last time then would be from HBK in December 2002 - if you include interference as someone being involved in the match. If not, then it was the triple threat.
Batista interfered after Kane chokeslammed Goldberg - he dragged Kane outside whilst Trips got the pin.
Otherwise, that is the match in which Trips won his last title without Orton about.
The answer is never...its never happened...Orton and HHH have been feuding for a good 11+ years now, it will never end.
Yeah it was against Goldberg and Kane in Dec. 2003. You gotta come with something harder than that, I think everyone on here got that one!
Call it "once bitten, twice shy," but I kinda agree with WWEisRight this time. After the confusion of semantics from the last trivia question, I think Seth is going for "involved" to mean an on-screen appearance during the match, in which case December 2002 is his correct answer.
A match "involving" Randy Orton, means a match in which he competed. Which would be (as stated) Armageddon 2003.
And as for the previous trivia question, I don't think counting Booker T is fair as (as I think someone mentioned) he beat Kurt Angle for the WCW championship.
So if you exclude Booker T, then you have CM Punk, Khali, and Rob Van Dam. Not counting Punk (if you were to say "before CM Punk..." you would include Rey Mysterio. And before him, Edge.
Hey Seth, if you are reading this...is it true that with the Al Wilson storyline, they were going to continue it and include Torrie Wilson's real life sister?
Wud be the chamber wudnt it?? oh no ortonw as in that, Yeah must be Armaggedon 2003 against goldberg and kane
Orton totally got involved in the Goldberg/Kane/Triple H match at Armageddon 2003. But the match was no-disqualification.
The last time Triple H won a World Championship and Randy Orton wasn't anywhere near the ring was at Armageddon 2002, when he defeated Shawn Michaels in the Three Stages of Hell Street Fight/Steel Cage/Ladder match.
Kane wasn't put there randomly. I remembered that the main event of Armageddon 2003 was supposed to be Goldberg vs. Kane one on one and then Triple H was added to the match and won the thing.
matthew:
Booker T should be included, because if guys who have held any world title at any time weren't included then there would be no point to the question, because CM Punk himself has already held a fully-recognised world championship, in Ring of Honor.
So when Alfonso said 'first time world champions in WWE' he meant 'first time WWE world champions' which he has since cleared up.
Who fully recognises the ROH title outside of the company itself?
Well, umm, nobody!
My bad, I was going on the assumption that if a title is defended overseas then it's a world title. Lesson learned - never assume!
I shall now gorge on some humble pie!
