It's never too early to book WrestleMania
So it was in the late summer about six years ago that we on the WWE creative team started coming up with possible scenarios for WrestleMania, which was still months away. Sure, we knew plans would likely change, but just having an idea of where you wanted to be down the line was helpful in planning in the short term.
The only match that seemed unanimous was Angle vs. Lesnar. The other match I advocated for was Rock vs. Austin, though at one point there was a suggestion on the table to do Austin vs. Scott Steiner. I fought for Rock vs. Austin because it's one of those "big-time" matches I could watch over and over; plus, Austin vs. Steiner had potential to make people actually leave the building as it was happening.
The one interesting thing is that on all the WrestleMania scenarios we looked through, Stone Cold's name was on every one of them. Keep in mind that this was in the late summertime after his June 10 walkout, and his return wouldn't become official until around December or January. Yup, that's how wrestling works.
Why do I mention this? Because given WWE's moves as of late (putting the title on Punk, moving HHH to SmackDown and Batista to Raw, etc), WWE actually has the potential to build to one of the best WrestleManias in a very, very long time.
Here's what I would do.
I'd build WrestleMania around three main matches: Triple H vs. Edge for the World Title, Batista vs. John Cena and CM Punk vs. Randy Orton.
Triple H vs. Edge -- As I mentioned in my previous post yesterday, I'd put the title on Edge at the Great American Bash and then keep it on him til Mania. Let HHH play the role of babyface in the chase. I actually LOVE the storyline of Triple H getting screwed by the wrestler who's dating the boss; substitute "everyone else" where I just said "Triple H" and you've got the story of WWE for the past six years. Triple H vs. Edge is one of the few big-time matches left with any intrigue; if done right at the Bash (total screwjob ending to build heat for Edge), the Mania match could be gigantic.
John Cena vs. Batista -- No title on the line here. You don't need one. I'd build this feud by having these two guys be CM Punk's challengers for the titles, and they cost each other those matches. I'd start it at the Bash -- Batista loses somehow, then Cena tries to jump in as the next challenger. Batista's angry, says he still deserves another shot, but Cena gets the shot, say at SummerSlam. Batista costs Cena the match at SSlam. Go to Survivor Series with a Triple Threat, then to the Rumble, which neither guy wins. Maybe they eliminate each other.
Batista's the natural heel -- though I've been advocating for a Cena heel turn for months now. But if they keep these guys apart until Mania, this match has a VERY big-time feel to it.
CM Punk vs. Randy Orton -- Yes, I'm advocating keeping the title on Punk for this long. Heel first-time champions can usually have pretty short title reigns (Triple H, Edge) and get over, but babyfaces (Hogan, Warrior, Diesel, Cena, Batista) need some time to make the fans believe in them. Punk has a natural charisma and confidence that will make people rally behind him. Orton, on the other hand, is the most natural heel in the business. I don't know what I'd do with the finish of this match, but if they do move forward with a third-generation faction, Orton as World Champ seems like a natural choice to lead it.
So there. Obviously there'll be a Taker match in there as well, and hopefully Mania will have an IC Title match for the first time since 2002. But given how most of the past few Manias have seemed like they came together in the weeks right before the PPV, a scenario like this would allow some time for the feuds to simmer ... add in a mainstream name and you've got something really, really special. See THAT was the big problem with this year's show -- Mayweather got a lot of publicity and attention, but the WWE product around him was very flat.
So that's what I'd do. Unfortunately, the secret to big matches is the slow build, and it seems that Vince's short attention span has grown even shorter as of late. But with the building blocks in place, I think next year's Mania could actually be something special.
Yup, I'm optimistic today. Don't hold your breath that it will last.

Yeah, those definitely sound good, although Cena-Batista has the potential to be completely unwatchable. Both guys are over but sometimes have trouble in the ring without an established general to help them out. Maybe make that one a last man standing? Something where they don't have to be super-technical?
The only other thing I'd like to see would be Hardy vs. hardy. The fact that they're on different brands gives them the ability to stay away from each other, and I'm sure you could build a great feud around matt being the bitter heel. Ever since that was mentioned here a couple of weeks ago I've really wanted to see that feud.
All three of those would make fantastic Mania matches, and if they do come to fruition WM25 could be one of the most memorable ever. Here are a few more matches that I think could make it even better...
Jeff Hardy v Undertaker - We all know who the winner of this one would be, but a match between these two could be brilliant. To the best of my knowledge, they have only squared off one-on-one once, on Raw in 2002 when Taker defeated Hardy in an awesome ladder match for the Undisputed Title. So this match would be fresh aswell.
I'd go along similar lines as Seth has suggested with the Cena-Batista match and have Hardy eliminate Taker from the Rumble. The story pretty much writes itself from there.
Of course, it all depends on when Taker makes his return. And Hardy could well be out of a job by Mania after his two drug violations. But I think Hardy-Taker at Mania would be immense.
Y2J v Mr Kennedy - This could be a solid interpromotional match between two of the biggest talkers in the business. Jericho has been on fire in my opinion during his fued with Michaels lately, both in the ring and even moreso on the mic, and Kennedy is just beginning to find his feet again after losing his way slightly on Raw. By the time Mania rolls around, these two could be ready to have a great match on the undercard.
Rey Mysterio v William Regal - Another potentially good undercard match that is pretty fresh. Before his 60 day suspension, "King" Regal was probably the biggest heel on Raw, and his in-ring ability has never been in doubt. Neither has Mysterio's, and I could see a match between these two (possibly for the IC belt?) kicking off Mania.
Add to those the obvious MITB and women's matches and you've got yourselves a pretty good 'Mania!
Let me know your thoughts!
Nice ideas, but I think another Triple H WWE-Championship in the ME would be way too much. Ok - here is what I would do:
1. World Heavyweight-Championship
John Cena vs Batista (c)
Batista would be going in as the heel. I disagree that this match would be unwatchable, both have improved dramatically over the years and Batista has shown that he can have a good match with a fairly green guy like MVP. This Match is a money-match waiting to happen.
2. WWE Championship
Edge (c) vs Jeff Hardy
It's time to give Jeff Hardy what the fans have been demanding for him for over a year now. If (that's a big if though) Jeff behaves and doesn't f*ck it up one more time, then give him the damn belt. He is insanely over!
3. Triple H vs The Undertaker
I think this match would be different than the one of WM17. First of all Taker is no longer the Bad Ass Biker and Triple H of course is Face. So I would book this as Face vs Face
other matches maybe CM Punk vs Randy Orton, MVP vs Shawn Michaels, Rey vs Chris Jericho and MITB.
Wait, so you were the guy who pitched yet another Austin-Rock showdown? When business starts to slide you need compelling and unpredictable stuff, right? Austin-Rock (that was #3?) would have been maybe compelling as a match, but not as a storyline, and certainly not unpredictable. I don't see why two years after WM X-Seven anyone would think that Austin-Rock, again, was a viable draw.
Well Vince McMahon obviously did see it as a viable draw, because the match went ahead and it wasn't half bad, considering Austin was really banged up at the time.
I would like MVP-Taker.
This match gives Taker another victory of course...but it can also "make" or seal the deal on MVP's legit status as a main event guy. After WM, put him in the hunt for the gold.
History shines well on that Austin/Rock match because it was Stone Cold's last. If it were against Steiner, it wouldn't have been as memorable.
Angle/Lesnar's build was great through that time period as well... it was a collision course you could see coming, but they never gave in to temptation of blowing it off before WM. We don't get that stuff anymore.
On an unrelated topic, anyone think that Jeff Hardy was supposed to play the role CM Punk is playing right now? Considering that he was slated to win MITB at WrestleMania, and rumored to get a title run in the summer, I'd say it was a possibility... but that would also assume they had the foresight to book into July prior to WM.
everyone isn't talking about the Stone cold Send off that is going to happen this year.
If I had to book WM25.. (what a great blog topic btw)...
Now this is the Silver Anniversary of WM, so let's make it huge!
#1 - Edge (c) v. Undertaker for the WWE Title in Hell in the Cell.
Winner: EDGE
This is the right time for the Undertaker to finally lose at WM and Edge is the perfect guy to do it. Undertaker should return at the Royal Rumble, win it by eliminating HHH (who thinks he's won).
#2 - Road to CM PUNK!
Round 1:
Chris Jericho v. Rey Mysterio
Mr. Kennedy v. JBL
HBK v. Lance Cade
Randy Orton v. Kane
Round 2:
Chris Jericho v. Mr. Kennedy
Lance Cade v. Randy Orton
Round 3:
Randy Orton v. Mr. Kennedy
Round 4:
CM Punk (c) v. Mr. Kennedy for the World Title
Winner: Mistaaaaa Kennedy!
John Cena v. Batista -- loser can NOT receive a World or WWE title shot for one year.
...more later.
I'm glad you're not on the creative team anymore...these choices suck, in my opinion.
I say let Jeff Hardy win the Rumble and face Edge at WM in maybe a latter or TLC match they have history... He has never one the big one why not beat EDGE for it. I'd put Taker in the ring wit Rey just because Rey is the big underdog Taker still wins but good match... And some how I'd get HBK the title he's over do. I really dont wanna see him and Ortan again but I fell Ortan vs Punk would be better for the future of the WWE ... Or maybe some how getting HBK vs Taker non title that would be big ... MVP is going to get a big push soon or later I say he wins the MITB he needs to win a few more big matches I cant really say I care for Cena so ... I would put the Aminal in there some where but I fell he needs to turn heel. So maybe I'd do Cena vs Rey, Taker and HBK classic match, Ortan and Punk, and Hardy vs Edge... I no Im leaving out HHH but I think he needs to turn heel to then maybe they could put in Rey in battle of brand match
You were a part of the reason why the wwf absolutely sucked during 2002- present.
Bitch
Bitch
And Matt's matches are so awesome, they're off the page!
Oh. He has no matches.
The fact that you actively fought against Steiner vs. Austin at Wrestlemania makes you a hero in my book. Holy sh*t, that would have been horrible.
Looking at all this, it makes me miss the days when it seemed like things were booked more than a couple of days in advance. It seems to me that Wrestlemania should in some sense book itself, since it has traditionally been the place to blow off all the big feuds and clear the table for new ones. Nowadays, not so much.
The best feud here is going to be Jeff Hardy Vs C.M Punk
To start this feud C.M Punk needs to continue to win matches in a slightly heelish manner but react like a face as he is doing at the moment. So when he goes against faces he may start to get a mixed reaction. This will mean he will slowly start to question the morality of the crowd and how he stands for everything that they are not. "How do you question how I win. who are you to judge, i'm here to judge you because i'm better than you." Then to cement the heel turn he should have in his contract that his rematch in the event of a loss is a miab contract. (the opponent is shawn michaels) Which he uses straight after his loss after various indy wrestlers including Bryan Danielson attack michaels. So Danielson can feud with Michaels due to there history.
Then on Raw he introduces his militant Straight edge group who include Raven (who thanks Punk for showing him the light) as the mastermind who negotiated the quick rematch. This group includes Danielson, Cabanna, Sydal. This will mean a mixed reaction rather than pure heel as there will be a face reaction from ROH fans in the arena. Which is always fun.
Then Jeff wins the rumble. And goes after Punk's title. You will then have an amazing clash of beliefs. Also Punk will try to recruit Jeff but fail and recruit Matt Hardy. Who detests Jeff for the pain he has caused there parents
The crowd babyface sympathy for Jeff will be amazing as he is emotionally attacked week after week. He will also represent a 2nd chance and freedom with crowd who are being told by Punk that is they don't follow him then they are on a route to hell.
I got carried away there.
i'd add undertaker vs shawn michaels 2 that great card...they have been teasing it in the past 2 rumbles and no wrestling fan alive would not want to se them go at it one more time..it would b bigger than taker-hhh u bet
this match would single handedly sell wrestlemania to me

The match I really want for Wrestlemania is The Big Show and The Great Khali in a 60 minute Iron Man Match for the world title.
Hows this for a Wrestlemania main event? For the World title: Batista (C) vs Khali vs Mark Henry vs Umaga vs Big Show vs Kane vs Big Daddy vs JBL vs Bam Neely vs Snitsky vs Mike Knox in a Battle Royale!

I really like Anonymous' WM card. I think Taker-Triple H would be interesting but something would have to be on the line besides Taker's streak. Maybe a title shot at the next PPV. I would like to see MITB to include Matt Hardy and MVP with either of them getting the title shot depending on their performances from now until then.
Add in Rey Mysterio-Shawn Michaels, CM Punk-Orton (to get a title shot on the Raw side).
Hypothetically speaking, if CM Punk were to keep the belt until Wrestlemania, what about a triple threat Punk-Jericho-Michaels. That would be a wrestling classic. However, this would leave Orton out who will have to be included on the card somehow.
Awesome stuff. I actually told my friends that the Cena/Batista and Edge/HHH matches should be at 'Mania! What do you think about finally letting the Undertaker and HBK go at it at 'Mania. Ever since the Royal Rumble last year fans have wanted to see this match again - it's been nearly 10 years! Plus, i think you could work of this years 'Mania and have Michaels say that he ended the career of Flair and now he's gonna end the streak of Taker. This would work out so well!!
Undertaker should face Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania. Hey, it's the biggest event of the year and it's in Texas.
Why would you want to turn Cena heel now? A short-term pop? One of the best things about Hulk Hogan turning heel in the NWO was that he had never really had a sustained heel turn before. WWE doesn't keep characters consistent enough to make heel/face turns shocking anymore.
But the character needs something new to freshen him up, I agree. That's what character interaction is for. Having him date/not date Mickey James is not enough, because it doesn't really say anything about his character. It would be far more interesting for him to do something interesting with CM Punk, like have an angle where Punk starts showing heel tendencies, but Cena (ultraface) tries to talk him out of it. You could start to show the edgier side of Punk that everyone talks about from his ROH run without giving him a full-blown heel turn and it would force Cena to articulate his position as hero and champion of the people. That's the sort of stuff that gives depth to a character without forcing him to change.
Oh, and comment to Terry M's: "Wait, so you were the guy who pitched yet another Austin-Rock showdown? When business starts to slide you need compelling and unpredictable stuff, right?"
I guess you've never actually done any real business. When business starts to slide you go back to the basic, the stuff you know that sells. Experimentation is for the very good times, when you can take chances and not alienate the audience, and the very bad, when the old standbys are not working anymore. At the beginning of the slide, you go with the sure thing to see if it's just a temporary drop or something to worry about.
HHH vs. Kennedy for WWE Title at Mania.
HHH should start to turn heel now! Maybe even team up with Edge. That would be a hell of a swerve! Build him up as unstoppable for the rest of the year and have Kennedy finally take the title from him at 'Mania.
In defense of Rock/Austin 3 at Mania XIX, we had never seen the match set up as a non-title match before.
The first one made sense because it was a collision of the two biggest stars. Austin was feuding with The Corporation and Vince McMahon, so for him to face The Corporate Champion worked perfectly. Of course, it was the Attitude Era, so Vince won the Royal Rumble, and Austin had to beat Vince at St. Valentine's Day Massacre via interference from Big Show, who was making his WWF debut. The Mania match was No Holds Barred and featured Mankind as the special referee to put the overbooked proverbial icing on the cake. Of course, the face came out on top, and Austin won the gold.
The second one, quite frankly, came about in one of my favorite early-year booking choices. Austin won the Rumble, and Kurt Angle walked out of that same PPV as the champ. While Austin/Angle would end up forming the crux of the Invasion-era PPVs later that year, it was not quite where WWF was going with Mania. Thus, Angle lost at No Way Out to Rock, setting up a face/face Rock v. Austin showdown. Their Mania match ended up being No DQ, as stipulated secretly by Vince right before the match started, and Austin turned heel to win the match. This would set up the Two Man Power Trip, which was cut abruptly short by Triple H's quad injury, forcing WWF to hotshot the WCW Invasion.
By the time two more years had passed, Rock had officially left WWE for Hollywood, putting over Brock Lesnar in a brief angle that led to a match at Summerslam in August 2002. When he returned in early 2003, he negotiated his own heel turn in a brilliant angle on the February 20 Smackdown and faced Hulk Hogan at No Way Out. Meanwhile, at the very same show, Austin returned from his walk-out/suspension in his usual babyface role, despite his personal problems at the time. It is interesting to note here that Rock spent a lot of time distancing himself from wrestling in order to facilitate a movie career, which led to him being booed, but Austin essentially walked out of the company, refused to work, was arrested for spousal abuse, and divorced Debra, only to return to incredibly loud cheers.
At this point, I'm guessing Rock knew he was almost done. Austin, as it would turn out, was also done. This led to the "Rock's done everything but beat Austin" angle that played out. Unlike 1999, heel Rock could set the stage himself without convoluted overbooking involving the Austin/McMahon story. For all the work he had previously done, Austin stayed relatively static, only playing off of Rock and letting Rock dictate the storyline. This would be their first "singles" Mania match, without special refs of No Holds Barred or No DQ. There was no title. There was no higher meaning to it; it was simply about whether Rock could accomplish what he had not previously done. Of course, he did. They did not steal the spotlight, because they weren't supposed to. Hogan/McMahon was more passionate, from a storyline perspective. Angle/Lesnar had the must-see feel. HHH/Booker, in my opinion, would've been awesome had Goldberg not come in, because it would have made sense for Booker to go over and establish himself as a huge face on Raw (which they no longer needed after Goldberg signed). But Rock/Austin 3 was the logical conclusion to the trilogy, the culmination of the previous two matches, and a supporting piece to one of the two best Manias ever.
So yes, I would say Rock/Austin 3 was a great idea, a viable draw, and an unpredictable match (with both workers learning from their previous encounters, using each other's moves, etc.) with a solid storyline behind it.
Rock Austin 3 is actually my favorite.
I never forgave Austin for wearing a t shirt to the ring at WM XV.
X-7 was a great match, but it had an 'untraditional' ending.
So Part 3 was my fave.
Although I agree that at the time, it was questionable why we would have them face for the 3rd time, which is a record unlikely to be beaten for a while.
Edge vs Kennedy for the WWE title. They have history, Kennedy can say that he's seeking revenge on Edge in the main event of 25 for taking him out of the main event of 24. Obviously that can't be the only story to build the feud on as people would have forgotten, but it can be the start. I'd have Kennedy become to Vickie what Jericho was to Steph when he was a face. Get him over by always having him be a thorn in her side even if Edge isn't always feuding with Kennedy. Then he wins the rumble and Edge finally has his excuse to shut him up. I wouldn't go with HHH vs Edge. How can they realistically say it is worth main eventing the biggest event of the year when they already gave it away on a secondary PPV less than a year ago?
John Cena vs Batista for the World Heavyweight title. This match should be the main event, and is this era's Austin/Rock. It's the two biggest stars they have created in the new era and should have all the hype surrounding it and should be the biggest match/ Not having the title on the line in this match would be lunacy in my opinion.
Taker vs HBK - Battle of the Texans. I'd say the atmosphere that could be produced in this match would be off the charts. Don't know what I'd build the feud over, but I'd subtly hint that Taker was from Houston, but keep him as the deadman. Perhaps have him become slightly more human without totally reverting to the biker gimmick.
Stone Cold vs Orton - Stone Cold's send off. Just make sure Orton gets tonnes of heat off of Austin before the match. Just a way to put Orton largely over really. Would have said Kennedy since they apparently hold some mutual respect 'in real life' but unless they want to turn him heel again it wouldn't make sense. Have Orton say there's one more legend that needs to be killed.
Triple H vs MVP - They seemed to have some good chemistry in the VIP lounge. It's just a way to get them on the card really. Put MVP over and then he should be just about ready for a title shot if he wasn't already by then.
Jeff Hardy vs Matt Hardy - Jeff will have long since surpassed the MITB match by this time I would hope. He would be such a big star that he would need his own match on the card. Matt as a face I would think would always be in Jeff's shadow. He doesn't really have that 'stand out quality' that Jeff does. He's over, but won't ever be to Jeff's level. Therefore turn him heel and play off that exact reasoning. Don't have him outright say 'MY BROTHER IS A DRUGGIE' but say that Matt always tries to do the right thing, has been a company man etc while Jeff has always been on the wild side...and yet the fans will always love Jeff more than him. Perhaps give them a tag title run and have Matt turn at the end after Jeff loses the belts but the fans give him a massive round of applause after Jeff gets screwed.
Beth vs Natalya - These two have Wrestlemania women's match written all over them. I don't know if I'd have a title unification match unless the sole purpose of creating the divas title was to unify it at Mania, so something else would have to give. I'd say turn Natalya, and get the fans to side with her because of her Hart family connections. Perhaps somehow get Natalya over to Raw after Beth runs through all the competition over there, perhaps in a trade for Mickie James.
MITB - Jericho, Morrison, Shelton, Kofi, Umaga, Khali (just for hilarities sake) Carlito, CM Punk. Winner = Morrison.
There's a lot of people I haven't even got onto this card, but that's down to an incredibly stacked roster right now. I'd have Miz or a repackaged Burke as ECW champ at this point, so perhaps do the battle royal again with all the leftovers.
I can't understand all these people saying that the main event should be a hell in a cell or whatever. How often has something like that ever happened? The whole point of Mania is that the matches and the event is so big that it sells itself. Gimmick rematches are for lesser PPVs that need a selling point.
Jericho Vs. HBK long term story arc:
1. Jericho defeats HBK at the Great American Bash with the help of interference from Lance Cade.
2. HBK demands a rematch at Summerslam but Jericho refuses on the grounds that he has nothing left to prove. Instead he suggests a Cade vs Michaels match with the stipulation being that if Michaels wins he can have a match against Jericho. Jericho, of course, interferes in the match and Cade wins.
3. Irate, Michaels demands satisfaction and ends up facing Cade/Jericho in a handicapped match at Unforgiven. Jericho avoids making any physical contact throughout the match and it ends up essentially being another Cade/Michaels match with Jericho choosing his spots wisely and tagging out whenever Michaels starts making a comeback. Jericho steals the win after some kind of flukey roleup or something like that and then afterwards him and Cade lay a beating down on Michaels. Someone makes the save on Michaels behalf (not sure who it should be at this point) leading to...
4. Michaels/Partner vs. Cade/Jericho in a tag match at No Mercy. Again Jericho avoids getting physical with HBK. Tagging out whenever Michaels tags in and tagging back in after Cade has worked Michaels over enough that Jericho can come in and lay a beat down. Michaels and his partner win after Michaels pins Cade but Jericho again escapes unscathed.
5. At Survivor Series I envision a wild card match in a similar vein to that which took place at the 1995 edition of the show. Michales and Jericho end up on the same team and Cade ends up on the other one (the rest of the players don't particularly matter for the purposes of the Jericho/Michales feud so we won't bother naming them at this point). An extra stipulation for the match is that should there be a sole survivor he would be granted a title shot at Armageddon. The match eventually boils down to Michaels/Jericho up against all 5 members of the other team. Jericho refuses to take in though and Michaels takes a beating but keeps making those classic HBK comebacks and defying the odds by putting himself in position to eliminate his opponents. However, Jericho keeps stealing the pins by tagging himself in when Michaels is tuning up the band and not noticing that Jericho tagged in. Michaels eventually wises up to the act though, and after Jericho pins the second last member of the other team, Michaels gives Jericho a superkick, then superkicks Lance Cade who would be the last member left for the other team. He puts Cade on top of Jericho thereby eliminating his own partner, then HBK makes the cover of Cade to win the match and the title shot.
6. The title match at Armageddon turns into a giant schmozz with Jericho/Cade interrupting and causing a DQ as HBK appears to have the match won.
7. Michaels finally gets a chance to get physical with Jericho during the Royal Rumble match. The crowd goes nuts as the two of them go at it in the centre of the ring but it's only a very brief encounter as they end up eliminating each other. They keep brawling on the floor and the refs/agents spill out from the back to separate them drawing a huge chorus of boos from the audience.
8. The next night Jericho agrees to face HBK at Wrestlemania, no holds barred. The match gets billed as a grudge match and after nearly a year of feuding, Michaels gets his revenge, going over clean in the centre of the ring in the match of the night.
In the last scenerio, there's one problem:
I can't see HBK willing to lose three matches in a row to start the feud.
Plus, I think people would be sick of HBK vs Y2J by Wrestlemania. They would also have to have meetings, matches, interviews on Raw every week. Not sure if a year of it is a good thing.
Wrestlemania needs to be the time when we finally get to see the matches that have been built up as the biggest of the year. It's not really the home for Jericho/Micheals: Episode 67.
Personally I would love to see the WWE open up the vault and get the Rock to come back for one night only. If they paid millions to Mayweather why not do the same for Rock, who might even be a bigger mainstream star than Mayweather.
Obviously the match would be Cena vs the Rock. The storyline could write its self in my opinion. Heck Cena has even taken a couple of litte swipes at the Rock in recent interviews. Imagine the reaction if Cena came out and made an open challenge to anybody in his bid to create the biggest Wrestlemania match of all time and the Rock answered.
With the current WWE product I can't see any match that could possibly touch this. It also would be the biggest match in the eyes of the casual WWE fan which would be huge for pay per view buys.
Those matches sound great, as does a Taker-HBK match. But what I would really like to see is whoever wins MITB cash it in WM itself. Have the Heel champ at the main event retain, and then have the face MITB winner win the belt. Easy booking
Even better, would be if they cashed it in right away, and lost. Imagine if a fan favourite won the shot (maybe Batista, for example), used it later that night at Wrestlemania, and then lost (to Edge, if he were the champ), meaning the heel would have beaten two popular guys in one night. Lots of heel heat, and would be a swerve that no one would see coming, since the MitB winner has always won the title.
The hell with the Rock. He looks like crap. He's have to add 15 lbs to get in shape. HBK for Rey-Rey would be wrestling-wise a bettr match than Taker vs HBK.
I am not really a fan of the face MITB winner cashing in the title shot right after the heel champ fought a match, this is a much better way to get a heel over as a new champ.
I agree the face MiTB cash-in after the heel has been beaten down (like cm punk used his) is a really bad way for a face to win the championship, but I was just trying to bring my fantasy booking back to reality a little bit. I don't WWE will give us a heel winning the belt at WM's main event. But I would love nothing more than seeing a heel leaving WM with the belt, specially if he wins it in a cheap way, like hititng whoever the face champ right in the head with the briefcase and cashing it in right there.
Having the MiTB winner lose after cashing it in also sounds like a nice idea, as long as they him win the belt somewhere down the road (say summerslam). MITB should be about pushing an upper-mid carder into the main event scene after, so having him lose his opportunity and have him forgotten (sort of what happened to Kennedy) is a terrible waste of a potentially good storyline.
In any case, my point is that I hope to see the MiTB be cashed in at WM, and the crowning of a first time heavyweight champion. For that to work, they better start building up an up and comer strong for a couple of months.
"Imagine if a fan favourite won the shot (maybe Batista, for example)"
Am I the only one laughing at the idea of Batista in a Money in the Bank match? I like the guy and all, but that would not be playing to his strengths.
Re: Batista in a MitB match.
I know it's not playing to his strengths, but for the scenario to work, you would need someone that is hugely popular that the crowd would believe would win the title.
If Matt Hardy wins, and challenges at Wrestlemania and loses, then it makes him look weak. It has to be someone that is over, and everyone believes is going to win as soon as his entrance music starts. That's why the swerve of him losing the match the same night would be so huge.
Only a guy like Batista, or maybe HBK or someone like that could pull it off. But I think HBK would be too beat up after his match and wouldn't use his shot the same night.
I really like your card, but I'd take off the Cena/Batista match. Here are four matches that should be added to your card.
1. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin vs. Hulk Hogan - Now I know people wouldn't have the highest expectations for this match because it would be clashing styles. However, if WWE got these two to finally face off in probably the match before the main event, I think this be more of a promotional match. Very similar to Mayweather/Big Show, only a better match.
2. Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels - This match could potentially steal the show, whether for a title or not. Obviously, Taker would get the win after a series of near falls that could make this a match of the year candidate. This could be both Taker's and Michaels' sending off match.
3. Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy - I saw it posted earlier and thought that WWE could really do a lot with this storyline. Although the two faced off at Vengeance 2001, I'm sure many have forgotten about this match.
4. John Cena vs. Chris Jericho - I can't believe that WWE didn't capitalize on this storyline when Jericho returned. It would be a match 5 Years in the Making. Jericho wants revenge on Cena for beating him on Raw and getting him "fired". Cena could turn into the heel because many loyal fans would probably take Jericho's side on this one. They could even make this match a street fight.
Wow I'm just amazed that everyone missed the sure fire match they should do at Wrestlemania 25. That happens to be in Houston, Texas (the best Wrestlemania, 17, was also held there).
Undertaker vs HBK
It's not a new match by anyways but who wouldn't want to see the two legends of Wrestlemania against each other. Heck I remember everyone was raving about them being in the final two at Royal Rumble 2007, and put they put on in my opinion, the two best final two confrontation ever. And they could even build up the fact that it was HBK who retired Flair - and he take out another legend.
Other matches?
Austin vs Kennedy
Terry Funk vs Foley/RVD/Jeff Hardy etc OR...Orton!
I've got the feeling that Funk and Austin are going to be induction into the Hall of Fame...hell put Foley in there as well!
A part of me really wants the Edge vs Matt Hardy World Title match, but I think they should do Kennedy vs Edge Main Event. If Kennedy can up his game, then that would be great. CM Punk vs Edge would be fine with me.
By the way Austin vs Rock III was a great idea. Two of the biggest faces in the history of the business facing each other off. The fact that they rarely fought against each other meant it was a must-see match. Who cares if it has been done before - you can't touch the classics. One thing I hated about Wrestlemania 19 - Booker T should have got the belt - he was so over as a fan favourite around that ime, and it looked like he was being groomed to being the face champion, but no we got has been Nash, and overrated Goldberg in the World Title scenes. Raw sucked so much in 2003 (apart from Y2J)
i dont give a damn as long as Kennedy gets his well deserved, much delayed push again and gets a world title.
I just think that WWE is going to go out of their way (or at least they should!) for Wrestlemania XXV. For the main event, I can definitley see a Cena - Triple H match for the WWE Championship. I know they are on different brands but Triple H will never last too long on the B show. The most awaited main event in Wrestlemania history was Rock - Austin for WM X7! The two biggest stars at that point. Cena would have to win in a brutal No Disqualification match. And again the McMahon angle will be included. It always will work! And vacate the WWE Championship just to make things even more interesting, so there will definetley be a new WWE Champ. People love HHH and Cena!
Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. Both Texas born. Both are the greatest stars in Wrestlemania history. No real money paying wrestling fan can deny they never wanted to see this. And you could even hint a retirement match.
Plus Jericho/Edge for the Heavyweight title with Edge as face could be interesting. If not Jericho could be face. Kennedy will feature prominently with MVP, Orton, Batista, Jeff Hardy and Punk. But I can see a Kane return as masked bringing in a lot of people. Maybe against Big Show?
Thanks alot! Rock - Austin 3 was brill. Rock - Austin 4 would still be gr8! If one of them returned for one night only it would sell out!
Who knows. dont count on it though

The Rock can't be in a match at WrestleMania 25.He left the WWE and didn't show up even once in over 4 years besides the hall of Fame.So for him to come on the grandest stage of all,the silver anniversary of Mania and have a match is real bullsh%@.And also, for him to even be in a match against a main eventer,he has to gain at least 25 to 35 pounds of muscle back.I mean he weighs like 210 pounds now.He would have no chance. But then again,if they were to do a match it should be against Shawn Michaels,Orron,or Triple H.HBK and Rock haven't had a match in their whole careers against each other.HBK was the ref in Rock's match. And since they don't like each other and there is a lot of heat between them it would work. You'll have Mr WrestleMania against the Rock. And they have been involved in rivalries against each other with DX vs the Nation. And Orton could go against Rock. They're both third generation superstars. Both of them came from legendary families. And Orton is known as the Legend Killer so he would try to add another legend to his list. It'll be a great match. And now Triple H,he's the biggest star so if he's not involved in a match then he could go against him. They both don't like each other.Triple H is the face of WWE,the Rock,I mean Dwayne Johnson is seen as a lying, full of it,sellout. They would put on one hell of a match. And I just don't see the most popular superstar, the biggest star, the other face of WWE John Cena going against him.I see him being in a high profile main event match, maybe against Batista,Orton,Triple H,Rey Mysterio,Undertaker. And if Austin should return for another final match it should be against either Batista, which back in Evolution he called Austin a coward and insulted him and such. And then Austin was the ref in his match against Taker so they got history.Other people I see Austin going against are Orton,Taker which hasn't been done at Mania,Edge,Cena. The celebrity I see involved since it is WrestleMania 25 could be a couple main event superstars returning or some high profile celebs and superstars returning. They better not bring back Mr T,though.Anyways I see them having a Money in the Bank match with the contenders being Morrison,Burke,Benjamin,Kofi,Matt Hardy,JBL,Finlay. And A main superstar could return and be put in the Money in the Bank match as a suprise entry.Maybe RVD.The World Heavyweight Championship match could be Orton vs Batista, this match hasn't happened and it would be one hell of an amazing match. Two former members of Evolution fighting to see who's the best and for the World Heavyweight title.Or Batista vs Cena,or Cena vs Batista vs Orton. The WWE Championship I see being Edge vs Triple H,Triple H vs MVP,Mr Kennedy vs Triple H,Orton vs Triple H.I mean Orton could win the rumble and go to SD and challenge Triple H for the title that was his and to get revenge on the person that injured him and to beat Triple H at the grandest stage of them al.With all the history they had, with Triple H screwing Orton everytime he has the title and beating him,and with him being kicked out of Evolution. He could say he surpassed his mentor and that he's better and so on.The other matches I see are MVP vs Edge,Rey Mysterio vs Shawn Michaels,Victoria vs Beth Phoenix,Melina vs Mickie,Jericho vs Edge.Seeing as that on WrestleMania there are interpromotional matches.Jericho vs Mr Kennedy.Jeff Hardy vs Edge.I see some reunions happening at Mania. So there could be Team Xtreme vs APA,Lita vs Mickie James,Beth Phoenix vs Lita.Trish Stratus vs Melina,Trush Stratus and Lita vs Mickie James and Melina.I see Mick Foley maybe having a final match.Anyways, whatever matches they have,WrestleMania 25 will be remembered and will be one of the greatest WrestleMania's.It's the 25ty anniversary, the silver anniversary,a quarter century,it's WrestleMania.

The only part of Wrestlemania I want to see Batista on is the preview show. Why does this guy keep popping up in supposed "big matches?" He doesn't even mention Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho but has Batista on there???
Wow I see a lot of great ideas for wm25 but dis is what I would do but first rock vs austin at wm19 was good they needed the rock to go over he did the job to Austin at the other wrestlemanias so rock needed dat and if you didn't see at the end of the match rock said something to Austin which was thank you. Now on to wrestlemania25 money in the bank match MVP vs the hardys vs lance cade vs rey rey vs edge winner edge 2nd match ic title cm punk c vs kofi Kingston winner cm punk 3 match jericho vs Mr Kennedy winner jericho 4 match ecw title jbl vs big show match winner jbl match 5 womens title triple threat phoenix vs hart vs James winner phoenix match 6 world title triple threat match orton vs cena vs batista winner cena new champ batista was the champ and match 7 WWe title undertaker vs triple h c streak vs title your winner is new champ undertaker then match 8 title and streak vs edge winner edge to close out wrestle mania now I forgot Shawn Michaels he could wrestle Shane McMahon so there it is another good wrestlemania

Hi,
Good ideas there, but I don't agree with the Cena - Batista match, both of those guys need to be carried by the scruff of their necks to have a half-way decent match at best. If you put them in a ring together with no one more experienced, they would be totally lost.
Why not just let them stick to what they can do and have one of those crappy "Pose-downs" like Warrior and Rude had at Rumble 1989? Sure that would be awful to watch as well, but at least flexing their muscles is something they can do. Neither of them can wrestle so they shouldn't even try and you know that WWE will make them be on the show, so give them something they can do.
If I was booking the show, the only involvement they would have is putting up the ring and gathering arena rats for us backstage :o)

Ok i agree w/ the taker- HBK match at mania25
i also love the idea of edge having the belt vs.triple h...i think triple h should win on that one because i love triple h and because that match should be very interesting....but before mania i say there should be a rivory between vickie-edge and stephanie-trips since both superstars have power!
PS: Stephanie should come out on air more offten with triple h
