Alfonso's Bash Predictions

bash.jpeg
First things first, remember Seth and I will be doing a live chat discussing all things wrestling todat at noon. I hope to see you there.

I also hope to be sitting in the Nassau Coliseum this Sunday when WWE's Great American Bash rolls in, and if my Blackberry cooperates, do some live blogging with my in-person observations.

Here's what I expect to see:

World Heavyweight Championship: C.M. Punk vs. Batista
WWE has been going out of its way to build up Punk as the underdog champion going into this match - going as far as having "The Animal" squash him in a non-title dark match after last night's Raw. That tells you one of two things: 1) The Punk experiment is over, and WWE has decided to return to a comfort zone by putting the title on Batista or 2) Punk is being built up to "beat the odds" and miraculously leave with his championship this Sunday. I'm going with the latter, expecting Punk to get some fluky roll-up pin on Batista, who will likely show further signs of frustration leading up to his eventual heel turn.

WWE Championship: Triple H vs. Edge
With this being only the first match in what I expect to be a lengthy feud, there's a good possibility this will end in some sort of count out/disqualification finish. But, this being Triple H and all, I could also see him decisively winning the match. Either way, "The Game" leaves with his title in tact. I'll predict a Pedigree win here.

Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho
This is the match I'm looking forward to the most, as these two have always had a great chemistry together going back to their spectacular match at WrestleMania XIX. I'll agree with Seth in thinking that Y2J is due for a win here. It should also be noted that this will be the first time Jericho wrestles before a "hometown" Long Island crowd in about four years.

John Cena vs. JBL in a NYC Parking Lot Brawl
I love that anytime when any kind of sporting event takes place within 50 miles of Manhattan, it's treated like it's going on in the heart of Time Square - and some reference to "in the shadows of New York City" is always made. Not quite. But then, I guess a "Nassau County Parking Lot Brawl" doesn't sound nearly as menacing. I expect this one to be a lot of fun, although sitting in the stands, I'll feel ripped off as I watch it on a screen along with the rest of the viewing audience. Cena needs to look strong, so I expect his third straight PPV victory against JBL here. The streak is probably actually a lot longer than that if you go back to 2005.

WWE Tag Team Championship Fatal Four Way
Seth isn't giving the Miz & John Morrison enough credit for an impressive reign, even in a weak tag team division. They're the second longest Smackdown tag champs in history, and are on pace to breaking the record. I expect them to leave with the belts.

Michelle McCool vs. Natalya for the Divas Championship
Natalya wins the belt here, and along the way learns a thing or two from McCool on the art of the collar-and-elbow tie up.

ECW Championship: Mark Henry vs. Tommy Dreamer
The "World's Strongest Man" decisively wins and retains his title.

It's far from the best line up for a PPV this year - and may in fact be the weakest. But taking place in our backyard, there is definitely reason to be excited for the show.

By the way, look in Sunday's sports section for my "Idiot's Guide to the Great American Bash," complete with (hopefully) interesting trivia on the Bash, WWE at the Coliseum, and Sunday's show.

You're probably going to want to change that HHH match to "Edge," not Batista.

Punk over Batista...maybe Kane involved somehow
Edge over HHH
Henry over Dreamer
Y2J over HBK
JBL over Cena
Finlay and Horny new tag champs (But I'd prefer Miz/Morrison retain)
Natty over McCool

I do not think the card is that weak...it isn't a WrestleMania line up...but only 2 of the matches here feel like real bathroom breaks for me and that is the divas match and the ecw title match.

This ppv has always just been the "No Way Out" of the summer. Like the Feb ppv, it is just killing time until the next month's big show.

Hopefully, the ECW title match leads to some sort of decent angle for Tommy Dreamer. I think ECW/Smackdown is in Philly next week so maybe he gets some sort of Win or Retire type deal that Ric Flair had. Granted it should not last as long or lead to the type of send-off that the Nature Boy received, but it could make ECW somewhat interesting, right?

Did you win the belt from your brother in a backyard brawl? Or hang out with WWE Diva Maria? Maybe you painted your face like Sting or wore THUMP shorts to work one day. Either way, upload your wrestling photos here.
