No "Huge" News So Far From ROH

I sure hope ROH's hyped "huge announcement" on its web site today did not refer to the "Spring of Honor" 33%-off-your-next-order sale. The only thing "huge" about that would be the level of exaggeration.

I like a good sale as much as the next guy, but with lots of fans eagerly awaiting news on a TV deal for a while now, ROH officials should really choose their words more wisely.

Or maybe some blogger (not naming any names Alfonso) shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Afterall, Gabe gave it just one line on the newswire and didn't pimp the crap out of it. You'd think if he was super excited he'd want everyone to know about it...whether it's RVD coming to ROH or ROH getting a tv deal.

TestSubjekt hit the nail on the head. Nobody would having been buzzing like they were if it weren't for certain NEWZsites jumping the shark.

Hey, I'm not saying ROH had to come through with the TV deal announcement to live up to the hype, but they shouldn't say "huge news" when referring to a run-of-the-mill merch sale. At the very least, that kind of language should be reserved for the actual wrestling product. I would be satisfied with the announcement of a big match. But 33% off any order being "huge news"? Gimme a break.

The newswire never said anything about "huge news" it said this:

April 17th: There will be a big announcement on the main page of www.ROHwrestling.com this Sunday.

That's it, and it didn't resemble any of the actual "huge news" deals that have happened with ROH. Why would they announce something huge on a Sunday on the website when they could have done it during one of the two shows they had this weekend?

ROH did nothing wrong here. Certain people read to much into it and hyped themselves up, and now blame ROH for their imagination running wild. You know, like what happens every 6 months.

I never referred to the Newswire. A press release was sent to members of the media. Here is exactly what it said in the very first item:

"There will be a huge announcement on www.ROHwrestling.com this Sunday."

I don't mean to make a big deal out of this. ROH has more than earned the benefit of the doubt, and I don't think they deliberately intended to get fans hopes up for something as major as a TV deal, but the fact is, they should have chose their words better.

I already have my tickets lined up for the May 10th Show albeit first balcony but I'm still hyped for the event. It would be a nice moment if ROH could get Team 3D in there seeing as how they really started to put emphases on the building as a Wrestling venue or maybe Raven possibly whose on the waiver wire at the moment. Possibilities maybe of RVD maybe but I guess you can get 33% off of a 20 dollar DVD. It sucks that Mark Briscoe is gonna need surgery and be out indefinitley but maybe this will put more importance on the NRC and possibly turn them face against groups like S&S & AOTF.

Btw: Huge Match pits Bryan Danielson vs. Naomichi Marufuji on May 10th. I can't wait

Maybe ROH shouldn't have used certain words in their press release, but the people that recieved the press release really shouldn't have even brought up any possibilities. If it were me, I would have simply said "I just recieved a press release from ROH stating that there will be a huge announcement on ROHWrestling.com on Sunday. Be sure to check back on Sunday for the details."

The way some people then immediately started talking about a TV deal and other things made the fans excited and made everyone make something out of nothing (well...not nothing, since it's a pretty awesome sale).

I know that people that report the news are fans also and get excited like everyone else, but they have to realize that people buy into their words. Just report the news. And if you really feel the need to put in your thoughts, make ABSOLUTELY sure that people won't buy into it being the truth or a very strong possibility.

All parties should have done a better job at conveying the message.

Why shouldn't he speculate?

If ROH is going to go to the trouble of issueing a press release trumpeting a "huge announcement" they are looking for the media to drum up attention to it.

ROH certainly look like heels. Bad job on their part. Are they that hard up for money they need to swerve their loyal fans? A press release for a DVD sale is pathetic and makes them look so low rent. Nice job Gabe Russo.

But some of the blame has to go on this blog. The only mention of a TV deal came from Alfonso Castillo. No other site or wrestling "insider" had anything on any TV deal. That means this blog started this silly rumor. Cary Silkin has been optimistic on getting TV for YEARS. And nothing has happened for obvious reasons. A) No network is interested in no name indy wrestling that only appeals to smarks. Old ECW was mainstream and sold sex and violence. ROH is a indy that relies on long matches and that has very limited appeal. B) The massive costs in getting ROH to become a TV promotion greatly outweigh the benefits. TNA had Panda Energy to absorb their loses. ROH doesn't have such a luxury. ROH would go bankrupt faster than you can say Nigel McGuinness. Cary would have to cut his loses and pray he can sell ROH to Dixie Carter and TNA. C) The PPVs tanked. They just proved that ROH is a looong way from TV. So basing a rumor on this is ridiculous.

People should also have used common sense. Outlandish rumors about ROH signing Hulk Hogan, The Rock, or getting TV should be treated as jokes until there is proof and facts behind them.

So there were two forces at work here. ROHbots who forget that ROH is only an indy trying to survive by selling DVDs and not a major TV promotion flushed with cash. And wrestling bloggers who wildly speculate without any facts. I actually thought the announcement could have been RVD or a TNA deal. But I guess RVD costs too much for ROH to book and there isn't any TNA agreement in place.

"Why shouldn't he speculate?"

In all honesty...he can do whatever he wants.

Looking back, we always have 20/20. All I'm saying is that I don't think the buzz would have been as big and people wouldn't have been as let down if someone didn't mention the possibility of a TV deal from two simple lines that really don't show any sign of something unbelievably-mega-awesome.

There was one simple line in the newswire...one simple line in a press release. Yeah, the words "big" and "huge" were there, but Gabe wasn't pimping it like crazy like her normally does when something major is about to go down.

In my opinion, it was pretty obvious that it wasn't going to be something HUGE!!111!111eleven!1!!11

People were suspecting something bigger long before Castillo mentioned anything about a potential TV deal.

I think it was just a poor choice of wording.

Stop making up comments to support yourself. It's obvious.
