On TV Tonight: ECW on SciFi
With ECW's television ratings remaining about one third of those for Monday Night RAW, WWE gave fans a special reason to tune into the C-brand show tonight.
ECW on Sci Fi tonight will feature the announcement of the latest inductee to the WWE Hall of Fame.
Speculation is that the honor will go to either the late Florida wrestler and promoter Eddie Graham, who helped launch the careers of such names as Hulk Hogan and Dusty Rhodes, or to Gordon Solie, the iconic wrestling announcer that immortalized the phrase "crimson mask."
In the main event slot, C.M. Punk will team with Smackdown's Jesse and Festus to take on WWE tag team champions John Morrison & The Miz and Shelton Benjamin.
What does it say about the ECW brand when a tag team relegated to mid-card duty on Smackdown is good enough to headline a show? Nevertheless, if this is a start of a feud between Punk and "The Gold Standard" Shelton Benjamin, then I'm all for it.
At the very least, I'd expect the match to be used as a tool to promote the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania, which features Punk, Benjamin and Morrison. All things considered, ECW actually has some pretty decent representation at this year's big event later this month, and I'm thrilled to have Benjamin, who was the star of the first two MITB's, back for this year's installment.
I'd imagine that a lot of tonight's show will focus on the upcoming 24-man battle royal at WrestleMania for a shot at Chavo Guerrero's ECW title. Last week, The Great Khali was announced as a participant, and I'd count on a few others being made official tonight, such as Kane. Watching Chavo freak out over his possible super-heavyweight WrestleMania challengers could be fun.
ECW is hardly required viewing for wrestling fans these days, but it's worth checking out, if only to nod along to Kofi Kingston's entrance music.

Marc made sense on his interview, but as a lot of the workers said during all those interviews, he is, and was a mid-carder, nothing more, and had to come on TV and be a cry-baby. You rode off of Sable, and Ericpushed you. I saw you at one or two TNA matchesand you looked green! I don't condone drug use, but you (in those days) goyta do what you gotta do. On the other hand April Hnter took somehorrible bumps and Advil was the strngest she took. So Marc, don't put down everyone else and justify your partying.
Nice job making me embarrassed to be a wrestling fan, Michael.
That was a really fun hour of TV. I am crossing my fingers for the return of the Boogeyman, as this show needs some more humor to it.
