All-Star cont'd
So, Lundqvist still seemed a little downtrodden today, despite his All-Star selection. He was clearly pleased with the honor, but was also hard on himself for an underwhelming performance last night against Montreal:
“It’s a good feeling. You’re honored to be part of the game,” Lundqvist said. “I didn’t feel that well this morning after a tough game last night, but a thing like this always cheers you up a little bit. It’s gonna be fun to go there and play that game with all those great players and great environment”
When Tom Renney was asked about his thoughts, he joked, "About time," which is a valid point given Lundqvist has been a finalist for the Vezina the past three seasons and this is his first All-Star appearance...
Scott Gomez also said the King should've been recognized in the past.
“The guy’s probably the best goaltender in the league. Whether he’s an All-Star or not, he’s the man, and good for him,” Gomez said. “It’s overdue for sure.”
As for lines, Korpikoski skated on a line with Brandon Dubinsky and Nikolai Zherdev...Renney said Korpikoski will likely play--presumably in Voros' place--tomorrow night against Buffalo.

Hey Zip - think he's as downtrodden as all of us? At least he gets paid for this garbage. My season tickets are $10,000 a seat and I haven't seen anything to make me think they're not going to continue this spiral and raise tickets every year, just like my Knick tickets.
Hey, jonzee. Downtrodden as all of us????? You have $10k extra to spend on season tix while others are out of a job and struggling to keep their houses. It is all relative guy so stop your bellyaching.
This just in: Big trade in OHL...The Oshawa generals traded John Tavares-possible 1st round pick, Michael Del Zotto (our '08 1st round pick who has 33 pts. in 34 games) and a back up goaltender to the London knights...just a little FY for 'ya all. Del Zotto is gonna be terrific for us, we have a lotto look forward to w/this kid. _X_
Bob, just saw your post from yesterday (was travelling). No, they try to
improve the team but the reality is that they are "strangled" by these huge
salaries for players no one will want. You mentioned it and I do not disagree
that maybe "eating" some salary to get rid of players to gain cap space might
be the way to go. Blow it up and start over. I'm starting to support what LI Joe
has said all along, forget the free agents and build within. To do that though
you have to get rid of Sather and bring in a younger GM that knows talent.
The Rangers have the money to get such a person. The way this team is
now, we will be wallowed in mediocrity for a long time. PIP, I have found that
the Rangers never get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the refs. It's
almost like they are told to be hard on them. I know, it's a Ranger fan's
perspective.

Del Zotto getting traded is definitely a big deal, he is now going to be on a contending team in the OHL and be part of some intense hockey down the stretch, something that wouldn't have happened had he stayed with Oshawa.
Tony,
everyone has been saying lets build from within around here, this is not exactly a revelation.
totally agree, the next GM definitely needs to be a young hungry assistant executive with one of the top organizations in the league that has flourished in developing young talent and has a clue when it comes to the salary cap.
Not one part of that sentence describes Mark Messier.
PLEASE NO MORE MESSIER SHOULD BE GM POSTS FROM ANYONE!!!
Hey Steve in today's newsday says lundqvist is a 2 time vezina finalist its 3
lets hope Redden continues to improve..some how
Messier should NOT be gm, but he should be a player/coach.
This should cheer everybody up:

PinP:
you want Messier to be a player/coach? what, like Reg Dunlop in Slapshot?
Sounds like the Rangers.
"Let's hire someone."
"Who?"
"Hmmm....he has to be famous. He has to have been out of the NHL for at least 5 years. Oh, let's not forget that he shouldn't have any experience coaching whatsoever.... am I forgetting anything?"
"Well... our current coach has had us in the playoffs every year and has the 3rd most wins in the history of our illustrious franchise."
"Oh? Yeah, he's got to go. Give Mess a call and let's keep our fingers crossed that he wants to coach and knows how to."
"Great idea. Hopefully Vancouver hasn't called first again with more money like last month."
lol, nice TK
Tony, it's always been that way...you know how people don't like New Yorkers, same goes here at MSG!
Dude, where have I ever said I wanted Messier back as a player/coach? I said in two different posts that I would take him as an asst Coach. I said in another I'd take him back as a player only, and that is only because our team has no leadership, has a hard time scoring, and because if other 40 year olds can do it ie: Chelios at 46 and Lemuix at 44, Y not Mess....two different posts, 2 different positions........and yes, that is why I posted that trade, because Del Zotto goes to a club that will probabably now win the whole thing in the OHL. This a terrific experience for him and could quite lead the way for an earlier NYR Debut.
I also agree that we need to build w/youth, and have said that all along as well. I disagree tha we need to hire a "young" GM...so you would exclude Craig Patrick?...are 'ya kidding me? He'd be my 1st choice _X_
