Waiting for the wheel to turn...
"Free were the fields of fern
Free was the fishing in the coves of care
Empty are the homes of old
Empty for the sake of summer's cause...
Here come the clearances, my friend
Silently our history is coming to life again
We feel the breeze from the storm to come
And up and down the coast
We're waiting for the wheel to turn..."
"Waiting for the Wheel to Turn"
----Capercaillie
Bone-tired after sifting through waves of information and innuendo, we crashed after midnight here at Chez Zipay to the low murmur of Celtic music.
After all, today promises to be busier than a bee in a lush garden and we'll be posting news from around the league right here as soon as it can be confirmed.
So keep checking in...
Overnight, two text messages snuck in amid the silence. Just digesting them now with coffee.
As long expected, but never announced, RFAs Nigel Dawes and Freddie Sjostrom apparently received qualifying offers. Wise moves. Two quality youngsters.
The other missive is mysterious, from a Canadian acquaintance, warning of a major surprise coming out the Rangers HQ today.
Hmmm. Surprise?
Just about every free agent forward and defenseman out there has been linked to the Rangers at some point by agents or web-site wags since the end of the season. Maybe it's an unforseen trade.
Anyway, my piece today in Newsday is available on newsday.com as well, under 'headlines' over on the right. The Rangers are looking for two D, a PP QB, and at least one top six forward.
In the meantime, we'll wait for the wheels to turn...

For some reason, I have also had the idea of a trade in my head for awhile. It just doesn't seem like Sather will be able to fill the roster with the type of players he wants, yet be able to fit them under the salary cap at the same time. I'll throw one name out there... Pitkanen.
Jagr, Avery and Streit.....Sauer......That would be a good day!
could the "big surprise" be a trade for Pitkiinin? Prucha goes to a team that could utilize his speed and shiftiness and we get the #1 PP QB we need.
I've only got one word.
Vermette.
Prediction: Shanahan and Avery sign with the Devils and Brodeur says that Avery is the best forward he ever played with and is thrilled as hell to now have him as a teammate. A kiss on the lips is next!
I've got one name for you, UFA Radim Vrbata!
3yrs - 6.5 mil should get his ink flowing.
offer sheet for mike green that's the move
Joke,
Having a hard time determining if you were serious about trading for Pitkanen, or if it really was a joke.
He had 1 PP goal last year and has 12 in his lifetime.
He's the infant cousin of a PP QB.

Too late for Green

Why does everyone think we would get anything of value in return for Prucha?
He has little or no vaule.
Avery-Rolston-Orpik and Redden would be a good day. Enough with the one year deals for washed up players. It's time to let the young forwards on this team get their minutes and prove there worth.
I really want jagr back obviously, without him, we'll need to go after a guy like hossa. i would rather jave jagr for one year, then get some of the bigger UFA's next year, but you arent going to go one season without a top guy. one signing on D id like to see is a guy like steve montador. if we cant get big names, maybe pandolfo

SOOOO HOT!
lennynyr thanks for the update on green
My fear is we're getting Campbell. I think Slats should go after the following to address our needs:
Rolston/Hossa: Winger for Gomez who can score
Huselius/Avery: Winger for Drury (Huselius is perfect 2nd liner)
Orpik/Commodore: HIT HIT HIT HIT HIT!
Streit/Hainsey: PP QB
Done.
Wade Redden
Radim Vrbata
Niklas Hagman
Shawn Avery
- all 4 of these players will cost less than Jagr and Sundin together. They'll put in more goals with less ice time.
Priorities-
Orpick
Redden /Campbell
Avery
Jagr
If no Jagr, bring back shanny to capt. team for year
thanks but no thanks to rozival
No Hossa - will want way too much money and too long a contract
No Campbell - the guy doesn't score goals like a PP QB
No Shanahan - thank you. It's time to retire
No Roszival - Hell F-ing no. Let someone else overpay him cause he ain't worth 5 mil plus.
No Sundin - If that means no Jagr, oh well. There are plenty of other younger wingers ready to replace Straka, Jagr and Shanahan.
If the team wants to be younger while building around Gomez and Drury than it only makes sense to sign players in their age group that will compliment them.
EKlund's site is down?
Slick Willy that pic you posted is Gretzky's daughter
yeah I can read too. It's hockey related isn't it? lol
