Chris Simon will play in Russia. And now Hollywood Hollweg is in Toronto.
The participants in one of the uglier incidents in Rangers-Islanders history are both gone from New York.
You could see this coming.
The Rangers' stable of third- and fourth-line forwards had to be thinned. So left wing Ryan Hollweg, 25, today was sent to the Leafs for a fifth-round draft pick in 2009.
Hollweg's future with the club---which began when he was drafted in the eighth round in 2001---first became cloudy when the Rangers added Fredrik Sjostrom in a trade with Phoenix last season. Hollweg was scratched for nine consecutive games. Earlier this month, the club added free agents Aaron Voros and Patrick Rismiller and acquired Dan Fritsche in a trade with Columbus. And prospects such as Dane Byers in Hartford are knocking at the door.
The Downey, California native played three seasons with the Rangers, compiling 311 penalty minutes and just five goals and 11 assists.
A high-energy, but sometimes reckless forward, Hollweg was suspended for a game in February after his second major boarding penalty of the season, a hit from behind on Montreal's Sergei Kostitsyn.
In the most publicized incident of his career, Hollweg drove Simon into the boards in a March 2007 game, and when Simon got to his feet, he levelled Hollweg with a two-handed slash to the neck, a penalty that drew a 25-game suspension. Hollweg received several stitches in his chin.
The draft pick, which was acquired by the Leafs from the Penguins in last season's trade for Hal Gill, gives the Rangers eight selections next season.
Thoughts? I suspect many fans understand this one. Hollweg, a popular player and free-spirit, nevertheless took unnecessary penalties at critical times (remember Game 3 against Pittsburgh?) and just couldn't pass or score enough to justify a spot on this re-tooled team.

we got a draft pick for him. that my friends is the steal of a century
good riddance to bad rubbish
Thank the lord! I knew today would be a good day
I am so thrilled Holloweg is gone...and as RangerFan said: "Good Riddence"...OMG...I got my bucket wish fulfilled-he's gone and so is backman. Thanks much Glen. NOW, let's find ourselves a bruising, crease clearing D'man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im in Toronto and a leafs fan. This is my first time hearing of Mr. Hollweg. I hope he isnt as bad as u fellas say...he'll get booed right out of town if he is.
hey now...he's a 4th liner who takes WAY too many boarding penalties. He has no hands and can't fight.
btw hey now...I went to a game in toronto 2 seasons ago. Great arena but I got hosed on the seats. I didn't know they were standing room only. We had to stand behind the highest seats in the house. A 7-1 hosing didn't help matters much, either.
hey now hollweg plays a very intense game style and loves to hit.. he will take on anyone in a fight and will stick up for his teammates..clearly a 4th line player and i have to give it to him he hustles his ass off.. .and i disagree with nakedjoe for hollwegs size he puts up a good fight..the only reason im happy to see him go is for his stupid penalties in crucial moments...he tends to lose his head
I loved him in the 05-06 season and tolerated him the next year, but last season he outwore his welcome in NY. I'll be retiring my Hollweg #44 jersey. Kind of wish we got more for him, but see the trade as inevitable.

nice, now get a 3rd or 4th rounder for Betts!!! Hollweg was one of my most favorite players, but his game failed to develop and his hitting became less frequent, especially in the playoffs. Also 44 is my favorite # and I'll always remember some of his monster hits, but time to move on with someone who can do more than just hit.
And get rid of Sjostrom and Orr as well as Betts. Moore, Korpikoski, and Byers are way better and are ready.
And Prucha likely needs a fresh start away from Renney, who hates him.
And we still have too many forwards with Rissmiller being most likely the one to go as he is oldest and was hated in San Jose.
Keep:
Dawes
Gomez
Zherdev
Callahan
Fritsche
Dubinsky
Naslund
Anisimov
Korpikoski
Byers
Moore
Jamtin
Voros
Drury
trade:
Prucha
Betts
Orr
Sjostrom
Rissmiller
Parenteau
thank god Bob doesn't run the team. Thank god Bob will be more miserable this season than he was last season. Thank god Bob is most likely the biggest loser on this board, at least the Rangers can't be worse than Bob.
KYS Bob
The new guys brought in, including Rissmiller, were brought in to play here, not to get rid of.
The next guys out will be Orr, Betts and Prucha.
It will happen by October 4th, patience, we as fans want the whole team set by July 15th, it doesn't work like that and doesn't need to.
Rissmiller was signed for just 1 season, which leads me to believe he is here just in case the prospects aren't ready or as an extra 13rth forward.
Thank goodness Dude doesn't run the team. Thanks goodness Dude doesn't choose who stays and who goes. Thank the lord almighty Dude doesn't choose the lines. Thank you lord Jesus for making Bob and Dude just two internet blogging nerds that have nothing to do with hockey at all.
and thank the lord we got a 5th round pick for Hollweg. I never thought he's be more than a cap hit.
Praise Jesus!
Thank the lord!
God loves me because Bob and Dude aren't running the team? ok.
Jesus hates Bob and Dude.
He told me. He said, " #1, Bob and that half mo-moe Dude are useless toolboxes with little sense and the uncontrollable desires to voice their bias, opinionated, misconstrued and sadistically twisted ideas on the world as if they're crap-tastic thoughts were so important they had to be posted, yet to understand them you need to be retarded.
They're uneducated blogging demeanor should lead you to the conclusion that there is experience and knowledge wedge in between they're witless comments.
It is a facade.
Not only do they have nothing to do with the team, the comprehension level lacks the basic ability to stifle them from making moderate fools of them on a daily basis."
That’s what god told me about Bob and Dude.
I thought he was being kind of mean. But who argues with god.
Jordan is the new Bob around here #1.
Pick on him.
oh, and something about rubber and glue... stinking to you... sticks and stone... bones...
names will never...
I agree with you 100%, I am a little misunderstood.
Jordan is indeed the new BOB.
Good Riddance. I couldn't stand to watch no more of the Hollweg show.
Hopefully Prucha is next, because we can definitelly use the $1.6 million he is due next year.
Although Betts is a good penatly killer, he is very one dimensional and could also be shipped out of town.
would have taken a bag of pucks for hollweg happy to see him gone
Id rather give Prucha another chance before dismissing him so quickly.
This offseason, Sathers best moves have been getting rid of Backman and Hollweg. All other moves are questionable, at best.
Prucha sucks.
All other moves are great. Especially getting a young scoring winger.
i would have given a 5th rounder to get rid of hollweg. to get one instead is highway robbery. Glenn put away your mask. Hollweg and Backman gone very good.
Orr not going anywhere unless they get another fighter of his caliber in a trade. I've said Orr has trouble with the super heavy weights but with the rest of the fighters he's as good as it gets. So he will be here, unless a bigger tougher version of him comes our way.

If something bad happens he should be the next skater over the boards.
Without a second line scorer, why cast of Prucha so early? counting chickens... something... hatching...
Why is it so hard to see that this kid got a raw deal by Jagr and Renney, and now you tools.
Thank God Hollweg is gone. I was afraid they Rangers might keep him around.Bob, are you sure you're a Rangers fan? Sjostrom is a solid young player who has speed, skill, and isn't afraid of getting his hands dirty.
Necessary move. Hollywood never really progressed over the past couple of years as a player......and IMO his hitting deteriorated after the league identified him as a dangerous offender. He never really recovered his hitting game after that. The penalty he took in Game 3 cemented his legacy in NY and unfortunately that's something he would never be able to recover from. If the fans aren't behind a player like Hollweg...he's useless. Thanks for giving us your best effort every night Holly.....good luck in Toronto.
I love Hollweg, but he's got no place on the team at this point, just like Orty didnt last season.
Good luck Ryan, keep up the big hits!
Best moves Sather made was getting rid of Holloweg and backman. I say let's give Prucha one more shot w/new "playmates', keep Orr cause WE need a policeman out there protecting our assets. I like Betts for his D'work, but agree he is one dimed, and sign a bruising crease clearing D'man has got to be highest on Sather's wish List.
Bob, Dude...you gurls are entertaining, I'll give you that much...but, sometimes I think 'ya got crap in 'ya brains ...trading Sjostrom?...you mean.... let's get NOTHING for 1st round pick Montoya???? you got air in your brains and I have to say, you do NOT sound like much of a Rangers Fan!!!!!!!
Sjostrom is pretty much nothing, he is not as good as Byers or Korpikoski, no point wasting a spot on him.
When is the schedule coming out? It's usually out by now.
What are you talking about..Sjostrom was one of our better players when he arrived here. Do you REALLY watch hockey, fella?? We have lost Jagr, Shanahan, Avery, Straka, Hollweg, and have infuriated Cherapanov enough to consider staying in Russia. The defense hasnt gotten tougher, whats really to look foward to this season?? This will be a 'Cream Puff' team, and we,re gonna get the Filling' knocked outta us.
