Sykora's Called Shot in 3rd OT forces Game 6

Former Ranger Petr Sykora's wrister on the power play for the 4-3 win (he said on the bench to Pierre McGuire that he would score the winner in the second OT) means the Cup will be wrapped up and shipped to the Igloo. Incredible...

Hate the Penguins, love Sykora. Glad if someone on the team had to score, it was him.

You just won... yet you come here to taunt Rangers fans.

It's sad... but the truth hurts: Fans of every other team care more about the Rangers than their own team.

It gets proven every day of the hockey season, from October to June. I love it. :)

OUTSTANDING GAME!!!!!!!!!!

Sykora was singled out by his call and comin' thru. Pascal Dupuis was singled out for his play, neither part of Golfer Glen's great vision to have the Rangers consistently bow out after a short second round, after only what seems like a half-century of his (ho-ho) leadership.

Focus, Ranger fanatics, on the job young Fleury did, and tell me the goalie you call "The King" has ever played that well, with that kind of pressure, and explain how Henrik has earned a cap-killer contract.

Focus, Ranger fanatics, on the excellence and passion from both sides tonight, Detroit more wide-spread talent, the Pens with Fleury and just-sufficiemt grit to outlast them, and tell yourself you can ever see the Rangers playing at this level while the Golfer is in semi-charge.

The officiating is one sided looks like NHL really wants either at least another game or Crosby to win the Cup.

Yeah Bob, it's been like that since Game 1 of the 2nd round.

Three ex-Rangers played key roles for the Pens, Dupuis setting up the first goal, Hall getting credit for the second goal, Sykora, Babe Ruth like, calling the shot.

Talbot scoring in the last minute to prevent a cup win is only the second time this has happened. The other time was 1936. Short of sending Osgood to the penalty box, there was no way the officials could have made that happen.

I'd rather have the officials in the NHL calling them no matter when they happen than have a NBA situation where Brent Barry gets karate chopped with two seconds to go and it's not called because it's two seconds to go.

wow the obsession with the rangers is even worse than I thought. This is hilarious.

Focus, dud dew, on your own team instead of the Rangers.....

The immature gloating of Pens fans for what seems months is as unseemly and classless as if Brad Pitt gloated around every man Angelina Jolie has dated or George Clooney walked around pointing out to everyone how he is richer, sexier and luckier than all of the rest of us mere mortal males.

When you know you've got it, you don't have to say anything. It is obvious that the acne-covered, pre-pubescent Pens fans here who taunt Ranger fans don't have it.

Before Game 6, you should look up prepubescent, and then remember to wash the Clearisil off your hands before you post here again.

The gloating you see on here by fans of other teams has nothing to do with the Rangers themselves. Rather it's about Rangers fans.

I'm more worried about competition next year from the Flyers, Caps and Canadians than from the Rangers in the eastern conference next year.

Sens fans, Habs fans and Flyers fans are talking about their post seasons and how to shore up gaps in their organizations to make a run next year. While half the posts on this blog are still whining about how the league stole the rangers season and carping about the nerve of Pens fans, how dare they get excited about having a great young team with a future.

The "in your face" taunting and egotistical ranting by Rangers fans during the regular season built up to the point where I have to admit it's fun to enjoy the payback.

Maybe if Ranger fans had stuck to discussing hockey and not resorted to personal attacks they wouldn't have to sort through the "payback posts" to discuss Ranger Hockey off-season issues.

You reap what you sow.

Besides the Drury/Malone non-calls in Game 5 of the Rangers/Pens series, I never once said or thought there was a conspiracy against the Rangers during the post-season. I have always thought that the Pens were the better team, there is no arguing that. However, if you take away the stupid pens fans gloating on this blog, BNG, we ranger fans HAVE been discussing how to shore up gaps for next year...it isn't until you people come and gloat and make assanine comments that some of us retaliate with conspiracy theories. So instead of gloating over fans and a team you beat 2 rounds ago, go on your own blogs and talk with your own fans about the fact that your team is in the freaking finals, or do the bandwagon pens fans not know enough to have a discussion board like ours or even a reporter the quality of our Zip?

Interesting....take a look at the one post under the last thread. It is BNG writing "take that" in capitals. Then take a look at the fake Busey post on this thread. It says "take that" in capitals. Did BNG just mess up and accidentally post under one of his stolen tags? Did BNG just out himself as the troll...interesting.

Penguins are really making a showing after looking as if they weren't even in the same league as Detroit. In a way I am glad because the East in general would have looked horrible if our representative got swept in the finals. I don't care if it goes to seven games just as long as the Pens don't win. The "Nothing But Crosby" network will be unbearable if the pens win.

And BNG,

How can you say we haven't been having discussions about our teams holes etc? That is all that the real fans on here have been discussing amongst ourselves. It's just impossible to talk about much of anything when there is a troll on here talking to themselves all day using all of our names. Are you the troll BNG???

Joke, I'll be happy to address issues head on. Trolling is for cowards.
There are other blogs here on Newsday that I've been posting to for a couple of years. They don't have any trolling issues. It seems to the most on this blog, which tells me the troll is a Rangers fan. Since you're so god at accusing others, maybe it's you?

Again, all Lamonica or whoever it is that runs this site needs to do is post the first three octets of the IP address, the trolling will stop immediately. I'm sure whoever the troll is, he posts here under his own name too and the very nature of a troll is that he doesn't want to be "outed" .

As for your comments about the National Crosby Network, you vae to be kidding right? Did you see where, in the Pens/Flyers series McGuire called Sidney out for diving right to Sids face. When Sid showed the tape marks on his mouth guard to McGuire, McGuire backtracked and apologized on national TV.

Those comments show the true nature of rangers fans, it's always some conspiracy against them, they never take responsibility for their own teams ineptitude.

That's way you have Devils and Islanders and Pens fans on here. Because you blame everyone but your own team for their failures.

Joke,

You bring up a good point though. What poster here is prone to "ALL CAPS" posts?

I haven't ever posted like that once under my own name... who has? That would tell us who the troll is... what about you "The Truth" you seem to know a bit about this stuff. Who posts in all caps?

Classy fans like Sam is why I love to read this blog. You make each pens victory even sweeter.

BNG, why are you still here? Don't you want to celebrate with other bandwagon fans?

Elliot,

Nah, it's more fine watching you whine about how you aren't celebrating. The name calling and put downs are to fun to watch.

You're like the bitter ex-girlfriend who just can't bare to watch her boyfriend walk away with the prom queen.

Grow a pair.

its easier to say that especially when the NHL hands your team the cup on a platter though BNG. You happen to root for the NHL charity case.

That's what I love about you Rangers fans...

You realize how outlandish that comment is by not even having the guts to post it under your own name.

Such whiny little girls, straighten your skirts now ladies, you have a draft to prepare for.

my name is Elliot, I am posting under my own name. I am not whining about not celebrating..we lost fair and square, Pittsburgh was the better team...I am not so ignorant that I won't admit that. Don't call us whiny little girls, when you are the one posting on another teams blog, and calling out fans..why to make yourself feel better? Whats the point? We here all realize we are out, and are focusing on the draft and next year...we apologize that Pittsburgh does not have any real fans for you to bother, but seriously, get a life.

Black N Gold, that's your own name? Wow, what an interesting name? Do you realize you just called yourself a coward? You don't use your own name.

Congrats on the win last night to the Pens players, they showed true guts and courage. Great game for the NHL even though many on the East coast went to bed.

Now, Pens fans are a different story. You don't deserve this team. Has anyone checked out Pensblog? They crucified Sens/Rangers/Flyers fans all playoffs for whining and now they are just as bad. That entire site is whining. Lots of brand new Pens fans out there. 90% wouldn't even now who Rick Kehoe was. Clowns!

I dont know how the officiating has been sided for the Pens. In the 3rd period of yesterdays game and in game 3, the Red Wings were the only team given a power play.

Sec314: Take a look at the penalties called in the 3rd period of games between the Pens and Rangers. Most games, the Rangers got 1 power play from the mid-point on.

What about Straka's skate colliding with Crosbys in Game 1 that led to the Pens winning goal ?
What about the refs inability to be in the right position to see the puck in game 2 when Straka put the puck in ?

There were others, but really its pointless to blame officiating. Simple fact is that the Pens scored on the PP and the Rangers didnt.

Effigy, you just answered your own questions. There is no point to blame the officiating..sure, a couple of calls could have gone the other way, but the bottom line is that the Pens were the better team. Simple. absolutely no point to keep harping on it..

Brian, So tell me, which team in which sport wouldn't attract new fans when they make it to the Championship game?

It's human nature, so how does the fact that the Pens are attracting new fans to a sport who's rules are a bit difficult for the neophyte to comprehend, how does that reflect poorly on the Pens?

For last nights game, the national TV audience was a full point higher nationally than it was in NY. Another way of putting it was that 33% less TV sets per capita in NY were tuned to hockey than in say Cleveland.

Yet in 1994, you couldn't count the number of professed Rangers fans in NYC.

Yep, bandwagon is a real put down. I'm hurt. Ouch.

Black and Gold - your team has a lot of heart (if you indeed are a Pens fan and not an Isles fan posing as Pens fan). they totally deserved to be where they are.

you on the other hand are pathetic. hanging out on a Rangers blog taiunting Ranger fans for the last 2 mos. Your team has class. You are the exact opposite of that - take away the cl from class and that accurately describes you. or pathetic take your choice.

not true. have more cups than Devs and Buff and tied with the Isles.

and BTW - there is a cap. reading is a wonderful thing try it sometime.

dear god you guys are losers! my teams better than your team, blah blah blah. please!
why don't you toolbox Pens fans go play in traffic? Too bad Zip deleted Sam's post yesterday he said it best.

Zip, do you even care that this blog has become a joke? It's a disgrace yet you do nothing. I don't think you care about the Rangers or their fans. Next season let someone who gives a sh!t cover the team.
