....for the World Championships. The 29-year-old d-man will be making his first international appearance for the Czech Republic.
Also, thanks to laurie and Mitch Beck for seconding my sense of the five fellows from the Pack who have a shot at the club in September: Lauri Korpikoski, Artem Anisimov, Dane Byers, Greg Moore, Corey Potter.
More paperwork and errands on the agenda before a trip south tomorrow to collect my daughter and her belongings from Villanova...

what about bobby sanguinetti? or is the feeling that he needs a stint for the wolfpack first?
i know it is easier said than done.the ny rangers are strong at coach, assistant gm goalie ,center.their primary need is size on wings blood sweat and tears and offence how about the high scoring left wing on ottawa and defense about tha western conference defenseman greene.the rangers should follow the old casey stengel axiom ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION FIRST THE LADY BING CZECH DEFENSEMAN ROSZCIAL AND MARY MALEK,MARA?.I KEEP STRUDWICK GOOD VERSATILE TEAM PLAYER .THE RANGERS SHOULD OBTAIN SOME FRENCH CANADIEN PLAYERS THEY PLAY WITH EMOTION.THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT SIZE AND STAMINA ON AGENDA
was that english?
I think he accidentally pressed the Caps Lock button halfway through.
Ranger fans are stupid
Dude....
From a previous thread....
"Filatov was absolutely dominant in the WJC, I don't see him lasting past the Islanders at 5.
The only way the Rangers could get him is if they trade up."
Let's play Sather/Snow for a sec.....
Let's say Filatov is available when the Isles pick in the 5 spot.
Make me an offer I can't refuse....
How 'bout Dubinsky and Korpikoski for the 5 pick?
Dropping Malik is a no-brainer.
Backman absolutely has to go. $3 million something against the cap? what a waste. I would dump him for a late round pick even if we had to eat part of the money.
Roszival also has to go. If we just want a soft defenseman, we should just promote Hutchinson - at least he seems to have a little more offensive upside.
I would keep Mara. He has a big shot and I think he could play tougher if the coaching staff demanded it of him (he seemed to show a little snarl in the last few games that he played).
I would keep Strudwick as a veteran 7th for depth and locker room.
Whatever happened to Liffiton.
I like Orpik. Don't know too much about Liles, Weber or Suter. But I would cross Liles off the list just because he is the shortest of the three. No 5'10" an under D-men, thank you very much.
Gotta bring Jagr and Avery back. Love Shanny but he could barely keep up with his own linemates near the end. Straka, I could take or leave depending on Jagr.
Love to get a better look at Byers. I like the way he can score, throw the body and drop the gloves when needed. Both he and Anisimov need to put on a little more muscle before training camp though.
I hope Jessiman doesn't turn out to be another total waste of a first round pick.
Are all of you people crazy? Bring back Jagr? You really think the "captian" is doing positive things for his team? He slows his linemates down, circles back, rarely shot in the regular season. His performance in regular season was abysmal, albeit his playoff play was much better but the team could be much better without him. Bring in Hossa instead, at least he can play north-south style like 90% of the team. Jagr was a great performer for the last couple years as a Ranger but its time to let him go back to Europe.
505,
nice, I can't trade Dubinsky though
Dubinsky and Staal are untouchables.
Actually I think if the Rangers were to somehow get themselves into the top 5, I think they would take one of these amazing defensemen coming out like Pieterangelo, Schenn or Myers
Dude,
I also think Zach Bogosian is worthy of a top 5 pick.
Dude
Make me an offer for the 5 pick
I posted this earlier this morning but it some how got posted to a previous thread. These were quick thoughts on how to improve the team, just wanted some opinions...
Here's my hopes/ expectations for next season.
1. Sign Jagr to a reduced and incentive laden deal for one year with a one year team option. Give him second line minutes, unless we can't do #2...
2. Sign a 1st line winger like Hossa or trade for a 1st line winger like Cheechoo or any other # of guys.
3. Get Avery signed for a reasonable price (3 to 3.5 per for three years)
4. Sign Orpik
5. Sign Redden
6. Sign Valiquette
7. Let Mara, Malik, Rozi, Straka and even Shanny walk.
8. Tradeable players off the roster would be Prucha, Backman, Hollweg, Betts, Tyutin and any combination of picks or Hartford players.
9. Give serious consideration to guys like Korpikowski and Sauer if they look ready in training camp.
The refs killed any chance we had in the penguins series. The penguins were younger and faster and maybe overall more talented but that does not mean they automatically win. We were playing right with them in most games. But it's too hard to overcome horribly blown calls etc while trying to outplay a "better" team. To assure a better playoff run I think we need a bigger/ meaner defense with a skilled puck moving d-man (thus Orpik and Redden). We need to get a little more grit/ skill up front which would make Malone a great signing but I agree with most who see him going back to the Pens. I think the best way to improve is by addition through subtraction by letting the FA's go that I mentioned above. Let the passion and skill of our youth take over and replace the old tired games of the vets.
Dude
Make me an offer for the 5 pick
LIJoe,
I saw your response to the above post on the other thread. I understand that the Rangers listed in #8 aren't going to fetch anything in a trade all by themselves but you don't think a trade offer of Prucha, Tyutin and a 2nd rd draft pick wouldn't get a nice return or a nice move up in the draft? Also, if the right deal came along (say for Cheechoo or Komisarik) then you open up on the rangers side by being willing to give up a dawes or callahan. I am fully aware that we aren't going to get a 1st line winger in a trade for Backman.
I don't want Filatov we neet players like Getzlaf, I am really sick of skilled players that don't even hit, and I am sick of having undersized team that just can't get it done in the playoffs.
"Dude
Make me an offer for the 5 pick"
I am not Dude, but I offer you Betts, Dawes, Prucha and 20th pick, and 2nd rounder for 5th and your 2nd rounder.
Why are many saying that Pearn who runs the PP, I always remember it being Pelino. I thought Pearn is more responsible for defense and PK and Pelino is for offense and PP?
would Prucha and Betts be enough to trade up to get Tyler Myers? I hope we don't draft anyone smaller than 6'2".
Sorry zip.I wouldn't rely on what Mitch Beck says.He and I argued quite often last year about the readiness of Ryan Callahan, and this pre-season about Dubinsky.I watched alot of pack games last year but not this year so I can't comment on any of those players except for Byers who I think is more than ready.I thought he earned himself a job this pre season but unfortunatley coach geniuos wanted Ryan Hollweg and the rest of that useless fourth line.
My boyfriend on Habs inside/out said they are having a finals contest this weekend with a trivia show, games and prizes. The winners gets an all expenses paid trip to games 1 and2.
BB Leetch
Yeah I think Bogosian is top 3, that's why I didn't mention him
505,
I'd offer you Dawes or Callahan (your choice), Korpikoski and the 20th overall pick for the 5th overall pick and one of 2nd second rounders.
What happened to Baranka? Does he have any shot at making the club next year?
What happened to Baranka? Does he have a shot next year?
No way I trade Korpikoski. He was a 1st round pick from 2004 and we need to see what he can do. That is the problem with this team. Not developing enough #1 picks so when Jagr, Straka and Shanny leave we have young guns who score. I am not saying that Korpikoski will a 40 goal scorer but it time to develop these kids and see what they bring.
Maybe Jessiman. I think he is a restricted free agent. Time to give him a shot also they resign him.
Trade Tyutin then and Prucha. No way to Cally. He provides grit and battles along the boards and hustles. I like the excitment he brings and is a solid 2 or 3 tier winger.
Steve - Anisimov wasn't on my list of players most likely to crack the line up out of camp. Don't get me wrong, he's far and away my favorite prospect (I've been following his old team in Russia since the lockout, so got to follow along when he broke in over there as well) and I'm thrilled with the progress he made adapting to the North American game this season in Hartford. But he still has a little ways to go before he's ready for NHL duty. I think it's very possible he gets a look by mid-season, but as much as I'd love to see it, I think he's a long shot to make the team out of camp. Baranka was the 5th player on my list.
Backmans cap hit is 2.3 million, I believe
I think all you people offering Tyutin up losing sight of the type of defense we had this year. Tyutin the Rangers defenseman in hits. Thats the guy you wanna get rid of ??
* Tyutin led Rangers defenseman in hits.
but not in the playoffs. But I agree, give Tyutin another chance, maybe he was playing through some injury.
Dawes, Betts, and Tyutin for Dustin Brown
Genius!
Interesting offers Bob and Dude...I was out all night....I'll sleep on it and get back to you in the AM
Bob and Dude....interesting offers....was out all night....I'll sleep on it and get back to you in the AM
science!
I use to love Tyutin and thought he was finally hitting his stride this year. I don't know if he tired or was injured but towards the end of the year and more so in the playoffs he just disappeared and was useless. That's why I see him as a trade possibility. And only in a trade that fills a need on the team like top line winger or solid/ puck moving d-man. Honestly, how many weak wrist shots from the point did Toots try that were so easily blocked and moved the other way for a rush against Henrik? The answer: Too many.
I LOVE the progress I see in Girardi. When he gets a little stronger, meaner and confident then I think he could be a real solid guy back on the blue line.
What are some thoughts on Prucha, Tyutin and 2nd round pick for Souray? I know all about his defensive lapses and injury history. But he is as mean as they come with a PP slap shot that is exactly what would cure our PP. Any thoughts? Too much or too little be given up on our side of the deal?
Joke,
The Rangers could have signed Souray for what Edmonton gave him last summer without having to give up all of that.
I think the Rangers made a conscious decision that he would not be a guy that would be in their plans.
He's even worse off with his injury troubles now, I imagine Edmonton would love someone to take him off their hands.
Edmonton would be nuts not to make that trade if it were offered to them.
this is a great NHL draft site
they pretty much do a mock draft everyday, and it also looks like if the Rangers have Tuebert in their sights, they are going to need to move up after the playoff he just had.

You said you would want to trade Backman for a pick and eat some of the money if need be.
FYI - you can no longer split contracts under the new CBA. Teams who were already doing it (NYR-Wash) were grandfathered in but you can no long do it that way.
And we can't promote Hutchinson from anywhere. He is an UFA
Certainly King had some input to the Swedes that were added at the deadline, just as Jags has some Czech input. For that reason I would say that the Swedes will be staying. The surprise is going to be the non signing of Avery, and really other than a popularity contest there are very good reasons not to invest 3-4 mil per on Avery. He is simply not worth that kind of money, there are better options. That is way to much money to pay for an instigator who is on the league radar anyway. He will get on the ice with a big red bulleyes for the officials and every little infraction is going to be called. The one real issue that calls for dramatic improvement is this teams ability to stay out of the penalty box. For the last three years they have taken way too many penalties and have lost too many games because of this one factor. This last playoff series was lost on special teams period, this had a lot to do once again with the inability to stay out of the penalty box. Hollweg managed to lose gm 3 with stupidity and he is also a marked man with the officials. Rangers need to focus on improving the PP and getting a power forward. These are the pressing needs. The 3-4 mill that Avery is seeking is better spent on the FA market. If he wants to play for the 2.5 ceiling maybe keep him, though I beleive his injuries are a sign of things to come, again injuries to hands and spleen are not exactly attractive for investing 3-4 million per on an injury waiting to happen. Plus I do not think he will ever become a 30 goal scorer. This team needs goals, they already know how to keep the goals against low, now they need to score 3-4 per gm. Use Detroit as an example. Keeping the puck out of the net is great, yet if that is coupled with not being able to put it in the net then you have nothing.
I know this was stated in the beginning of this thread, but if the Rangers trade Dubie, as part of a package, for a draft pick, then I'm done as a Ranger fan, that would be atrocious.
I wouldn't trade Toots either, I think he did progress alot this year, and him and Girardi--despite some bad games here and there--have great chemistry and will continue to grow TOGETHER...if we just give up on our young talent and trade them off, then we're back to where we were 10 years ago.
Dude and bob
After some sleep......
Korpikoski is a must in any offer.
Not interested in Betts.
Dawes is attractive.
Prucha? eh...a tempting throw in.
And I like Callahan
However, one of the glaring needs (among many) for the Isles is a NBR 1 Centerman.
As deep as the draft is this year, our NBR 5 pick has the potential to be a "franchise" type player.
I've got to ask you guys to up the ante and take Dubinsky off the untouchable list or No Deal. (Is Drury available?? ;)
We need a centerman. You guys are loaded with them
Additionally, you guys need some D help. We're okay there.
So....with that in mind...
I'll offer our 1st round pick (NBR 5), our 2nd pick in the 2nd round (we have 2) and Bruno Gervais for...
Dubinsky, Korpikoski, Callahan and your NBR 1 (the 20th pick).
505,
there is no way we will be trading Dubinsky
the conversation stops!
LOL
no deal
LOL......
Not even Drury?
But thanks for playing....."Deal or No Deal"
505,
Can you throw in Witt instead of Gervais and re-work what you want from us?
Witt is untouchable.....as is Dubinsky.
Take Dubinsky off your untouchable list and I'll take Witt off of ours.
"What are some thoughts on Prucha, Tyutin and 2nd round pick for Souray?"
I think that is overpayment. And Souray has too many question marks.
"After some sleep......
Korpikoski is a must in any offer.
Not interested in Betts.
Dawes is attractive.
Prucha? eh...a tempting throw in.
And I like Callahan"
Korpikoski is not a must
"I'll offer our 1st round pick (NBR 5), our 2nd pick in the 2nd round (we have 2) and Bruno Gervais for...
Dubinsky, Korpikoski, Callahan and your NBR 1 (the 20th pick)."
that is crazy, Dubinsky alone is worth more. We are not in a position of being desperate to trade Callahan, or Korpikoski, or Staal or Girardi or Dubinsky. At #20 we will still be able to get a good player, and we can always try to move up few spots using Betts or Sjostrom or both. Hurricanes or Predators might be interested.
What about Alex Cherepanov ? Isnt he allowed to play next season?
wow, I agree 100% with bob's last post
Cherepanov has one more year of a committment to his contract in Russia.
"wow, I agree 100% with bob's last post"
LOL....well if I have done nothing else here over the last 24 hours, at least I can say that I got you two guys to drink out of the same water cooler.
I don't want this guy Colby Robak.
if we can't get Tyler Myers or Colten Teubert
then go after Greg Nemisz or Kyle Beach or one of the two Russians (Petrov or Grachev) if they play physical north south style
Most of those players in the mock draft don't interest me because they don't have much size or are soft.
I doubt there is much point trading up with the 1st round Myers will be gone in the top 5, I bet Islanders take him and Teubert will be gone in the top 10. And at least 1 of Nemisz, Beach, Petrov, and Grachev should still be there at #20. But we should trade up our 2nd pick either into early 2nd or late 1st and get someone who slipped or Staal.
Halpern is out for 6-8 months, Lightning could use a guy like Betts or Sjostrom. We could use their 2nd round pick.
Tampa Bay doesn't have their 2nd round pick.
It belongs to Nashville.
Nashville actually picks 9th, 15th and 31st in this draft.
I can see them making some noise trying to move up with those picks.
"As for the next generation of Blueshirts, I asked Renney how many players out of Hartford he thought could compete for a job next year. The coach said five, although he wouldn’t specify who."
that is ridiculous, he didn't even wait untill preseason, but he already says that ONLY 5 players will COMPETE for a job, everywhere else everybody is able to compete. Seems like Renney already wrote off many prospects.
if let's say the 5 are Byers, Korpikoski, LeNevue, Potter, and Moore, then what about Sanguinetti, Anisimov, Baranka, Sauer, Bourret, Pock, Parenteau, and what if Dupont or Pyatt has amazing pre-season?
"Tampa Bay doesn't have their 2nd round pick."
why? what trade?
"I can see them making some noise trying to move up with those picks."
or trading for some player/prospect.
The Tampa Bay Lightning's second round pick will go to the Nashville Predators due to a trade during the 2007 entry draft that sent Tomas Vokoun to the Florida Panthers in exchange for a 2nd round pick in 2007, a 1st round pick in 2008 and this pick.
Florida previously acquired this pick due to a trade on June 13, 2007 that sent Chris Gratton to Tampa Bay in exchange for a 2nd round draft pick in 2008
Even better than that one, St. Louis gets Atlanta's secound round pick this year because of the Keith Tkachuk trade.
imagine that one
Bourret and a prospect not in the plans like Kveton straight up for 31st pick.
"For him, it depends on whether his friend Jagr returns. "Obviously I'm going to want to talk to him," Straka said. "It's going to be a big decision on my mind whether he's going to be here or not. I don't know if he wants to talk to me, but I'm going to want to talk to him." "
get lost Straka. LOL you've just sealed your fate as a Ranger with those comments. We don't need players that are here only for money and because of Jagr.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=237147&lid=headline&lpos=secStory_nhl
Oh well, looks like no BRUNNSTROM for us. He probably sucks anyway.
msg4ever, what difference does it make if Avery makes 2.5 or 3.33 million? Almost none. You don't pass up on a valuable asset and players who give it their 110% because of less then a million difference, it just sets a bad example for the rest of the players. And Avery didn't really take a lot of bad penalties, but Jagr, Straka, Backman and Rozsival did. Avery only had 3 minor penalties in 8 playoff games, while Jagr had 6, Straka had 8, Rozsival, 5, Backman 6.
I was hoping Hank would help us out a little here but it doesn't even look as though we had a chip in the game.
How can you not offer Avery the kind of money that the Rangers paid people like Mara, Malik and Straka? Think about how much more valuable he is than those players. He's definitely worth at the least 3.5 mil a year easy. If Avery plays on a good line and matures a little more he can score 30 goals. I wouldn't give him more than 3 years though.
I never saw once the Rangers as a player in the Brunnstrom derby.
The only thing I saw regarding them was that they didn't see him as anything more than a 3rd line player.
Maybe Joel Lundqvist had a hand in him landing in Dallas.

Joke,

...............................................................................................
Dude,
I don't think I agree with you. I think there was interest from the rangers and souray. I think that the fact that we had just grabbed Gomez/ Drury and knew we were going to need a lot for Hank kept us from giving Souray the money he got from Edmonton. It struck me as very odd that Souray waited so long to sign and then signed with Edmonton of all teams. I have it in the back of my mind that Kevin Lowe and Sather had an "understanding" that Edmonton would take him for a year and then trade him to us for a steep price. Thats why I put up a trade that I do see as being a bit lopsided. I could be way off but it seems plausible. Also I don't think we would get Souray for just Prucha or just Tyutin or just a draft pick (maybe a 1st rounder I guess). I am very worried about his injury status but other than that I think he could be huge for us on the blueline.
I am also rethinking my stance on Jagr. Maybe it would be for the best to move on and let him go to Russia or let another team pay him $8 million. The only way I see him benefiting the Rangers is by giving a huge team discount and signing for $4 mill or less which I just don't see happening. I also think that with him on the team, sather would maybe feel pressure to bring back Rozi and Straka.
I say make a strong push for Hossa/ Malone/ Orpik and Redden. Hope you get them all and then go with our youth. I'm intrigued by what Ryder could do on Gomez's wing and I am sure there are other options that are escaping me at the moment.
Avery becomes a question mark now only because of his injury. If he is 100% and is being honest about his passion for the rangers and the city then I say give him his money and let 'em raise hell in the big apple for the next four years. Maybe this last incident scared him into being a little more mature.
One last thing...awesome posts today!!! I am really tired of the bickering and name calling etc. I think by now we all know who likes Renney and who would rather see him dead (that's you Bob). But I love the sharing of ideas and opinions and I think we all just want the best for our team. So again good job today...I wish I could post at my job and not have to wait all day to get in on the conversations, but I do get to read them throughout the day.
I took a look at Dude's "mydraft" link and I am a bit confused. They have us picking a d-man at #20 who has size but "is afraid to use it". Then right behind us at #21 they have the devils taking a bigger d-man who is described as the best d-man in the draft behind the big 4 who has size, speed etc and loves to use his size. So my question being...why would we not pick the Carlson kid that they say is the best after the big 4?
If we are to make a trade for Souray, then I want this:
Backman, Betts, Prucha, Tyutin for Souray, Stoll, Torres
because at this point Souray
Joke,
I think if the Rangers really wanted Souray last season, they would have made it happen.
Just because there were rumors that the Rangers were interested doesn't actually mean they ever were.
It's like the Mike Peca rumors, after he signed with Columbus, a reporter asked him what happened with the Rangers and he said that they never even called him.
Sather, for better or worse, doesn't say one word to the media, so I never understand why people get angry or pumped up about any Rangers rumors.
Nobody is ever going to have an idea what the Rangers are going to do or not do until is actually happens.
I would not take Souray as a free agent never mind give up something for him. big contract in salary cap league and injury prone.
Isles and Rangers will not deal with each other. the only team the Rangers have dealt with in division is pitt.
but for those who say I will not give up Tyutin or Cally or whoever (other than Staal or Dubinsky) you have to give up something good to get something good. noone else wants other peoples junk.
it was supposed to be Souray at this point is less than Tyutin
"but for those who say I will not give up Tyutin or Cally or whoever (other than Staal or Dubinsky) you have to give up something good to get something good. noone else wants other peoples junk."
yes, but we must first get rid of crap like Backman, Betts, Hollweg, etc. and see how good these kids are when given the proper icetime.
And those that think a 20 yearold defenseman can't make NHL without AHL, look at Letang a 3rd rounder, played 7 games in NHL as a 19 yearold, then as 20 yearold play just 10 AHL games before becoming a regular in NHL.
Kris Letang also had 31 points in 19 games in the Memorial Cup playoffs in 2007 as a defenseman.
Jonathan Paiement had 9 points in 8 playoff games as a defenseman, but nobody even bothered to give him a chance?
Bob your a loser... lets dress 20 rookies and see what happens. You are such a downer.. I truly hope no woman married you bc if they did they must have done something really bad to end up living with your crap everyday.
The rangers can win cups back to back and you would still THINK you KNOW better. Go apply for a job with an ECHL team and make your way up to the big show! No doubt you have proven to be the most knowledgeable person here.
Betts sux and Prucha is god in your eyes. Betts is a better defensive asset then Prucha is offensive. PLayers have roles they fit into but you just go by who can score goals.. your clueless.
Cant wait to see your loser response to this. Anyone who makes moronic comments will be recognized simply as pulling a "Bob". Come on Bob lets hear something intelligent.. maybe the Rangers should bring back Daniel Goneau and Christian Dube.....or lets give the kids in charlotte a chance...heck.. everyone write to the NYRs to do a reality show. Allow people like Bob in camp for a shot on the big club!! What do you think Bob?
at this point I want Prucha traded, your boy Renney destroyed him. Happy now? Betts belongs in ECHL, NHL does not benefit at all by having players like Betts. Anybody who wants Blair "2 assists" Betts on their team is a moron.
bob,
I want Michael Sauer to be a solid NHL defenseman at age 25, not thrown to the wolves and his confidence squashed forever at age 20.
You really are like talking to a wall sometimes. I will never understand your insane desire to rush kids to the NHL.
This draft is too young, we need to go back to a 19-20 year old draft so we can access the product better. Brunstrrom is not a late bloomer, he is developing at a normal pace. Shanny should retire, and HABS INSIDE/OUT site really is better than Blue fools.
Jonathan Paiement?
bob, serious question here.
Sometimes during the day you make very reasonable posts and then you say something so outlandish that I really have to ask if you take some kind of medication or have some kind of condition that makes you do and say crazy things.
If this is the case, please let me know and I will understand that it is the condition talking those times when you go off the deep end.
Sauer was already thrown to the Wolfpack where he suffered a torn ACL, Cherneski had his career end in AHL, so please spare me the cliches.
I never want to rush anyone, those that I want to play I have seen play in preseason and they looked ready. And of course I could have been wrong on some of them, in that case they would just be returned to AHL with an idea what NHL is like and what they need to improve in their game, which is better than sending down NHL ready prospects for entire year and have them wonder what is going on, why they aren't good enough when they clearly outplayed the likes of Betts, Malik, Strudwick, Shanahan, etc.
yep Paiement the physical, mean 6'1" 215lbs defenseman that scored 176 points in his last 3 seasons in the Q in 198 games, including 40 goals. And was 3rd on his team in scoring in 2 of those seasons. The guy who Rangers didn't bother to even see play 1 AHL game.
bob,
don't even know what to say on Paeiment
tell you what, if he becomes a big time NHL defenseman for another franchise one day, you definitely get to come on here and tell everybody I told you so ok?
When I looked up his stats though and saw he spent time with the Texas Wilcatters, I immediately thought of that scene in Youngblood where the coach threatens to send somebody to the Tallahassee Warthogs.
Would Girardi become a big time NHLer if nobody gave him a chance?
Even Brendl of all people looks like became a superstar in Sweden.
