Back to Pittsburgh...

.....where the Sunday matinee at the Igloo won't be a cakewalk.

But the door is ajar.

If Lundqvist stays hot, this might be interesting after all.

Here's some quotes and stats that didn't make the paper (I think, although I didn't read Marc and Arthur's stories)

Renney: "We are going back to Pittsburgh down 1-3 and we have made this predicament regardeless of whether or not we should have a better fate...We live to play another day and we intend to win."

Jagr: "We got one mroe game and that was our goal. It's up to us how we are going to handle the next game."

***

Shanahan had a game high seven shots and with his assist on the empty-netter, moved into a tie for ninth in career playoff assists with 72.

Chris Drury, hampered by sore ribs and side, won 15 of 24 faceoffs and played 20:40.

Martin Straka missed a few shots wide, but played with passion down low and with his assist, has 10 points in the playoffs (3-7-10)

Jagr's three points gave him his fifth multi-point game in nine games.

The Rangers will skate at noon tomorrow; we'll report from there...

Just got home from the game.

We are truly the best fans in the world to have a crowd that electric down 3 games to none.

Henrik was incredible and Jagr was God.

Penalty shot save vs Evgeni Malkin. Unreal.

Drury showed more guts than anyone could have imagined.

Crosby is definitely a puSSSy

We are playing sunday!

Not in our house!!!

i'll tell you what, if jags really wants to play on broadway again next year, eleven more games like tonight will do the trick, guaranteed.

great effort by the rangers... Dubinsky is a player....

Jagr has been a monster, if straka could shoot Jagr would have 5 more assists.

crosby is a joke, he gets upset when he or his lady friends are checked cleanly.

classy moves by malkin,,,,,,,,,,

Malkin's Nylander impression failed.

Regardless, Jagr was a man on fire tonight, great to see.

http://www.nyhockeyrivalry.blogspot.com

BTW if Jagr comes back it means Straka and Rozsival are back, which likely means Avery is not back. Do we really want that? Or do we want a serious team that doesn't overpass and finishes the checks and crashes the net?

"We are truly the best fans in the world to have a crowd that electric down 3 games to none"

I disagree with that. You were at the game but did you watch Colorado's fans tonight? They were being swept at home and were losing 8-1 and they cheered when Colorado scored the 2nd goal late in the 3rd. Now THAT is devotion. The Garden would have started to empty and would be all boos, and chants. And then only sarcastic cheers.

The Garden was electric because the Rangers were never down.

three.
down 0-3
Win 3- 0
with 30's spinning headstands
jagr has 3 points.
3 more games to win.

... every 33 years?

bob, no guarantee that Straka and Rosy would come back if Jagr is signed. Straka is running cold right now, but he does have 10 points.

ummmmmm, don't give me crap about Colorado fans ok Chris?

This is a city (Denver) who had a hockey team until the early 80's and gave their franchise the worst support imaginable so they had no choice but to move.

Then, they steal a ready made Stanley Cup winner from Quebec and all of a sudden they are the greatest fans in the world.

Colorado fans are a bunch of pusses.

bob,

just say the following:

"I am a complete moron, I have been completely wrong about Jagr and I apologize to everyone on this blog who are forced to read my mind numbing dribble all day every day"

and then move along ya jackaSSS

Solid game all around - Henrik was on top of his game and it sent a message to both teams that it was his night to shine.

Give Dru a lot of credit to playa nd play hard.

If Stratka ever put a shot on the net or ever capitalized on his chances, Rangers would be the ones up 3-1.

Gotta get Gomez in the scoring column, with contributions from Shanny and Dawes / Cally.

Keep Strudwick in, Hollweg out.

Oh Baby!

Typical Jagr, plays great when HE FEELS LIKE IT. Where was he for 90 games this season? Nowhere! If Jagr played like a man all year we would be waiting for the winner of Phi-Mon. Showing up for what could be the last game of the season does not impress. Dump him!

The fact that Hollweg played is reason enough to fire Renney.

Glad to see we live another day. Lets not raise the cup yet ok.

Hey B&G... I guess you know what to do wiyh your broom. Sucka!

Jagr led the Rangers in points during the regular season.

Jagr leads the league in points in the playoffs. The league.

We have only been charged 4.9 million against our cap for that.

To put that in perspective, the Blues have a cap hit for the next two years of 6 million each year for Paul Kariya, not THAT is a player who only plays when he feels like it.

Some day the people who constantly criticize Jagr will realize how great it was to have him.

Not me! Players that only give 100% when they feel like it, no matter how many points they score, are a detrament to their team. He's been that way his whole career. I've watched him play the perimiter and shoot from bad angles all season. Showing up on elimination day shouldn't erase all that he does wrong. He's a great player no doubt. It's a shame he only plays great about 25% of the time.

They should put Drury on the left side instead of Straka. I bet he would burry alot more chances than (Can't hit the side of a barn Straka). Let Straka be the third line center.

We'll miss him when he's gone. No matter how you feel about his play, 100% or 25 %. I'm not saying your opinion isn't founded, I'm just saying your going to miss him when he's gone. At some point anyway.
Replacing the likes of Jagr now is a tall order indeed. There are few players around... wait, there aren't any players around that have done what he's capable of doing, even today.

Jim,
I took another Jim from Woodbury last night from a guy that didn't have the balls to use a name. The wacko said he saves my emails??? emails??? Maybe I should buy a gun just in case I have a stalker.

Slick,

you are like the Uma Thurman of hockey bloggers

LOL

As far as Jagr goes, people criticize him when he plays bad, they criticize him when he plays well and as we see now, they even criticize him when he is the best player of any team in the NHL playoffs.

The guy can't win.

Jagr is giving that punk Crosby a lesson on what it means to be a Hall of Fame player. He's a monster, and a man showing a child what greatness really is.
Crosby is a petulant child with an overinflated sense of entitlement. He will get his cups, but he'll never radiate the class of Jagr.

If anything is going to drive fans from the NHL it is the pandering to Crosby. Last night the NHL Network, in it's post game coverage in which Jagr scored 2 and 1, and Lundqvist got the shutout, who do they have on the post-game interview? Crosby. One can only ask, "WHY?".
Answer...all Crosby, all the time. Gag a maggot.

in all fairness Kocur, Jagr stated to the press the other day that he purposely didn't go 100% all year in order to have some left in the tank for playoff season.

certainly a valid idea, and one that is obviously paying off....so far. but i see where you can be frustrated.

the way i look at it is the rangers got and are in playoffs - any contributions NOW is what im concerned about.

kocur,

would you rather Jagr be like AROD?

I miss Sean Avery

Flyers make the Rangers organization look like the clowns that they are. On the verge of more playoff success than the Rangers have had in a decade.

Rangers had the sixth pick overall in 04 and what do we have, Shojstrom to show for it. The only player to have not played in the NHL from the first rd in 03 in Jessiman. A bunch of nice third line young guys, one stud d man in Staal and one high end skill player in Cheraponov to show for 10 years of drafting. Sangunetti is there but how many 20 year olds go from jrs to the NHL on D, not many and I doubt he does and a coach who can't get out of the second rd but have to keep him because in our world the successor to that lame coach could be worse because our GM is a total douche and won't actually hire anyone who could win even though winning is all that matters.

Unbelievable bad management year in and year out.

Not for nothing but it's Jagr's job to take the heat from us. It's the position. He's responsible. Does he take it to heart? I hope not. Does he filter out the b.s.? I hope so. Does he understand why things are the way they are with him and the media? Well if he didn't them I'm sure he wouldn't be the captain.
He is frustrating to watch. He is amazing to watch. If he could do what he did last night every game, TGO wouldn't be the bench boss in PHX - he'd be some dude named Wayne that had a really great hockey career... but not as good as...
see what I mean?
At last glance, Jagr was in top 10 all time and the best euro ever. ever. EVER.
He's our all time season point leader. He knew the deal when he was traded for a guy that couldn't find a team to take his crap this season. He knew he was coming into a rebuild. A team that really meant to rebuild. And DC talks smack out Jagr. They pay half his salary for 3 years, got robbed in a trade and then traded Carter (who was a d!ck) for nothing. Had McPhee not pressured Jagr with TV ads, interviews and let the media loose on him - not to mention rebuild something with 2 trade deadlines and 2 off seasons then Jagr would have been much happier and most likely stayed. But 3 years ago the Caps were like the Islanders today... no one watching, stands empty, and very close to being the last hockey team to ever play in the capital. How fortunes turn?!
Thanks Caps fans. Thanks for buying tickets to help pay for half of Jagr's salary.
Insult to injury, the guy comes back after the lock out and kills goalies all season with 54 goals and 123 pts. AT HALF THE PRICE!!!
I'm sure everyone already knows this story. But sometimes we forget because he's not doing what "we" think he should be doing.
And that the problem.
JAGR!!!
JAGR!!!
JAGR!!!

Lenny,

Jessimans reviews for the season from Future's and the team both say that he will earn a position next season. There is the chance that it could be later... not starting, but his game has matured and he's put a lot of muscle into his game as well.
The reports also said that he is in everyway a PF, typically a late bloomer.
He had a wonderful end to the season ( i've read from NYR homepage).
You should ask that Laura lady who posts here, I think she said she goes to alot of the Wolfpacks games.
Now I'm sure that if you did a little homework today you'd find a couple of names the Rangers have drafted in the last 10 years that have ended up being top players
Savard - 1
Holmqvuist -2
off the top of my head.

Winning is not all that matters.

I know Slick Willy that your Jim from Woodbury... why don't you just come clean and admit it. You're always wrong just like Jim. Spineless like him too because you always use different names.

Savard was drafted more than 10 years ago. Holmqvist is not a top goaltender, marginal NHL player.

Zidlicky too..... sucks we traded him.

I will not miss Jagr's lazyness, leadership, long shifts, no hitting, footspeed, lack of hustle, overpassing, his PP that he is running, bad penalties, etc.

I guarantee you guys complaining about the drafts of 4 and 5 years ago are the only Rangers fans on the planet thinking about that right now.

You wanna bring up Al Montoya, ok, I bring up Brandon Dubinsky.

you wanna bring up Hugh Jessiman, ok, I bring up Ryan Callahan.

The Rangers have had 4 rookies score goals in this years playoffs and there have been moments when Dubinsky and Callahan have been the both player on the ice for either team.

So, if you guys wanna be wack jobs and bring up the failed draft picks from the past every ten minutes, be my guest.

I prefer thinking about how great of a career Brandon Dubinsky is going to have if he is doing this as a rookie.

Guys, whatever, let's not worry about past drafts and next year just yet. We got what we wanted last night, one more game. It won't be easy but we got it. Thanks Hank, JJ, Dru, Pru, Dubi, etc. First 10 minutes on Sunday will be huge, weather the storm and go from there. I liked that some of the young Pens showed some frustration at the end last night (Cindy, Malkin). I only wish Mara had dropped Malkin with a right and taught him a lesson. The sh*t Malkin pulled at the end will catch up to him, like a child who doesn't get his way he threw a tantrum and started slew footing people. Very dangerous. But I like the frustration he showed. Weather the 10 minutes on Sunday and hopefully they show some more.

To the guy, Anonymous, who posted the Dylan Thomas poem yesterday be sure to post it again Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Thorton Mellon would be proud!!!!

One at a time boys, one at a time.

Before someone tells me that the only reason Brandon Dubinsky is playing so well is because he is playing with Jagr, then why do I have to read a post every two minutes about how much Jagr sucks?

which is it?

Is Dubinsky overrated and Jagr is making him look good?

but, doesn't Jagr suck?

Jagr is overrated, and Dubinsky is making him look good.

but Dubinsky is good right?

and he is only 23 and was a Sather draft pick right?

just want to make sure I am getting this all straight..

Actually Dubinsky only turned 22 the other day

Ryan Callahan is only 23. Oh yeah, and a Sather draft pick.

"and he is only 23 and was a Sather draft pick right?"

wrong, Sather doesn't really participate in the draft.

Bob knows Dude.
He told me the other day that he was involved with the Rangers and is responsible for AT LEAST getting the Rangers into the playoffs 3 times. 2 or three threads back.

ok, lets say Sather doesn't participate in the draft,

Then, why am I reading posts blasting him for for past draft blunders like Jessiman and Montoya?

Do we even have a clue what we are complaining about?

The more I read your guys posts, the more confused I get.

Slick,

remember the real Jim from Woodbury?

that guy knew his stuff didn't he?

LOL

Sather has done good and bad. One thing is for sure, picking up Backman and shoestring was a failure. Backman is a car wreck and Shoestring is no better than Hossa was. He didn't trade away youth but he sure didn't address any of the teams needs.

Where's Black & Gold? Still trying to get that broom out of your a$$.

Shoestring is a lot better than Hossa was.

He is younger, faster it's not even close.

p.s I am the troll and take it in the man shorts. I QUIT on this team same way all the rest of you did.

One win and now you're all back on the bandwagon.

HYSTERICAL !

Go back and read all of your posts from a day ago slamming your team.

You are all sad folk!

c'mon moron

come up with some new stuff

your lack of originality is laughable

in all fairness Kocur, Jagr stated to the press the other day that he purposely didn't go 100% all year in order to have some left in the tank for playoff season.

If he needed a rest during the season, like this statemen implies, he should have sat out a few games instead of being a liability to his team. What if they didn't make the playoffs, then what? Quite frankly I think that statement is the biggest bunch of BS to come out of his mouth since he's a Ranger. He said the other day he couldn't play 100% all year anymore because of his age. Now he say's he did it on purpose. Please. If he's gonna BS people he should keep his story straight.

I loved seeing Dubi trying to rip crosbt's head off in the scrum when he and slew foot went after Girardi. He looked like a man possessed trying to get at cindy. Dubi is playing great and like a veteran and he's only 22. Dubi go get em sun and drop that cry baby cindy!

Personally I'd like to see Hollweg take Crosby's head off because I could care less if he got suspended or not.

Do we want a guy who doesn't give a 100% because of his age or because he on purpose wanted to save the best for the playoffs?

Marcel Hossa was a better player than Sjostrom. Sjostrom is invisible.

I don't know who exactly is to blame for Jessiman. The drafting overall hasn't been too bad except for Jessiman and missing out on Latendresse. But the development and giving them a proper chance is lacking.

"ummmmmm, don't give me crap about Colorado fans ok Chris?
This is a city (Denver) who had a hockey team until the early 80's and gave their franchise the worst support imaginable so they had no choice but to move.
Then, they steal a ready made Stanley Cup winner from Quebec and all of a sudden they are the greatest fans in the world.
Colorado fans are a bunch of pusses."

You think that last statement gives you any credibility? Answer, it doesn't. The point is that their fans stayed and were cheering loud even when their team was getting swept and down by SEVEN goals.

If Pitt had been up 8-1 last night, what do you honestly think the reaction would have been like last night? Cheering? I think not.

Point is that NY does NOT have the greatest fans. Far from it. They have many diehard who are knowledgable. But many who are ignorant, many who are a bunch of know-it-alls, and many who just look for stuff to boo about. Look at Met fans booing everyone. Look at Yankee fans booing Hughes. Basically, in this city, if you are winning, they cheer, if you stumble, they boo.

No one knows for sure if Jessiman is a bust. Furture's and NYR home page have written he is likely to have a spot of the team next season.
He hasn't been given a chance yet. So why sell him short.

Dude,
I thought the real Jim from Woodbury was spot on... maybe you should take a lesson from him. lol
He said the same thing about me yesterday. Said he saved my emails!?
I'd like him to re-post my Monday rant. You know the one where I looked at reality and say, "they're going to need MSG full of luck"

Bob,
That 100% crap sounds like Islanders fans and the NTP.

Chris,

Denver had it's chance with the NHL Rockies and failed miserably as fans.

They steal a team from Quebec that is about to win a Cup, and then they win the Cup their first season in Denver and all you hear since is how great Denver's fans are.

So, what am I a bad fan for going last night to the Rangers game and cheering wildly because my team WON the game and didn't get their ass kicked?

There are no better fans in sports than us, and if you don't like it, you can go fudge yourself.

Denver never gets to be forgiven for not supporting their hockey team when it's tough.

When they were the Rockies, that was tough. How many were cheering loudly in those days?

Bye bye now

"But the development and giving them a proper chance is what is lacking"

Yeah, I friggin hate the development and chance that 21 year old Brandon Dubinsky was given.

#1 center playing with a first ballot hall of famer named Jaromir Jagr. That is shameful.

Marc Staal? 21 years old and leading he Rangers defensemen in ice time during the playoffs.

"There are no better fans in sports than us, and if you don't like it, you can go fudge yourself."

You just proved my point. NYers think this way. It's either what I say or I'll get all hostile.

Notice how you didn't even try to counter any points I made. I live in NYC. I am a diehard Rangers fan. I didn't call you a bad fan for going. I said that you are probably one of those who chants about Potvin and has no clue why the chant even started. Most don't.

In NY, it's all about what have you done for me lately. If you try to disagree with that notion, then you are being a homer.

Actually, I don't do the Potvin chant and I do know when it started.

We have talked about this about 1 thousand times on this blog, but if you don't know, it's from an incident in 1979 when Dennis Potvin leveled Ulf Nilsson in the corner and broke his ankle.

I remember even seeing the play, and I actually remember going to the games when the Potvin whistle wasn't the Lets go Band theme but actually the Pop Goes the Weasel theme.

Is that enough info for you? Let me know if there is anything else I can teach you about the Rangers, be happy to oblige.

Rangers must be dead last in NHL in the ratio of prospects that do get a decent chance to the overall pool of promising prospects. Their pool is/was one of the largest, but the number of prospects that got the fair chance is possibly below the league average.

I don't know, find me another team that have had 4 rookies score goals in this year's playoffs.

I know! isn't that the worst development plan ever heard! You know what else... they only got to play almost every game!
:)~

Chris

That is about the stupidest goatin' ever on this board. This guy see something on TV or reads in the newspaper and believes everything he see.
If you aren''t a NY fan of anything - then what the heck would you know about being a NY fan. Are you saying NY is classless. Good, move on now. Go play in the street kid, life's going to be too much for you to handle.
You came here. You came here to call NYers fan base classless. And we're hostile? That is insanity MAN!

Dude,
Why are you proving yourself to this guy, He's hostile and rude.
Send him on his way

Teach me?

I find it hard to believe you were going to games judging by your posting style here, which is that of a 15 year old kid.

Slick Will,

I have been going to Ranger games since the 80's. It has not always been like this. The fans then were diehard more than they are now. Many people go now just to say they did. This is why they boo everything. Again, notice you couldn't counter the points I made because you couldn't. Everything I said is fact. I'm not some jealous fan from another city. I'm a diehard in NY who speaks the truth.

Is it possible youcan't handle the possibility that other cities have better fans? yes or no??

As for fans, it is not the sheep's fault that the shepherds can't properly control their sheep. So blame the ones running and organizing MSG.

While 4 rookies scored, Baranka, Sauer, Potter, Immonen, Taylor, Montoya, Kveton, Olver, Balej, Pock, Bahensky, Montoya, Paiement, Petruzalek, Guenin, Moore, Russell, Weller, Wiseman, etc. never got or will get a fair chance.

Not sure where Bob comes up with these off the wall ratios and invented stats. Prof Irwin Corey wouldn't even be this off the wall. First it's hits, as if hits determine the game winners, not its ratio if players drafted and developed to reach some unknown potential. This guy has way too much time. Really wouldn't be bad if the stats and ratios he comes up actually had some bearing on the game, but none of it does. Basically it is all lame and makes one wonder if he even knows that hockey is played on ice with players who wear skates. That is about the extent of his knowledge. Sadly, he can't find any place but here to expound his profundity. Hey Bob, the Rangers are dead last in ever area you provide, it is because none of the points you raise have any reality. SO, the Rangers will remain dead last in all these categories, take some lithium as it appears you are off your meds.

"Montoya never got a fair chance"

hey, can anyone name the biggest reason that Al Montoya never got a fair chance?

this is a real easy one...

Chris,

are you implying that I go to games "Just to say i did"

lol, you are a moron

You know, you might be the most original troll who has come around here in awhile, or just an older troll who has come up with some new material.

If you truly are a Rangers fan, consider yourself fired.

we do not need you

Dude,

You would actually have to be a real fan yourself to "fire" me as a fan. Not the bandwagoner you clearly are.

Oh know you can call me a moron from behind your computer. Typical message forum puss.

Hilarious!!

The funniest thing is how much time you spend posting here. I would say more than half the posts are yours. Go out and get a life sometimes. Please!!!

Chris you are a very strange person.
What points? Everything your asking for is subjective.
I could care less about what other teams have Chris. I couldn't spend my time running around on boards talking about who's better whats better blah... there's nothing to discuss there... it's all a matter of opinion. In which you think your 100% correct. Are you asking me to prove you opinion wrong? See how stupid that sounds.
Your wasting my time. And everyone elses.

Slick,

What I'm saying is people making statements like "NY has the best fans" which only NY fans say is silly. If a non NY fan comes and says its not true, they usually get accused of "hating" or "being jealous". Well I am a diehard Ranger fan and have been so for many years. And I am disagreeing with that notion entirely.

What I do notice is that while I address the points about Rangers fans, all you and the other guy do is talk about ME. Proves to me that you are unable to counter a point or argue an opinion without it. It's easy to call someone a name from behind a computer. I try not to go there because it's silly.

I didn't say anything about you Chris. Although you are strange. I said the notion is silly and frivolous.. Chris is the best kind of fan because____. And I'm right.
NY fans are the best fans because _____. And I'm right.
I'm the best rangers fan because____. And I'm right again.
I'm better at being a fan than him or them. I'm not right.

How about this, I think Prucha got a bad deal. A few of the gang are here say he'll be used as trade fodder at the deadline. Did Renney give Pru and bad deal?
What is the answer to that question. Guess what, you might be right?

Now isn't that kind of strange?
NY is a sports town you know, right?

I won't pretend to know what Renney is mind. He is the NHL coach, not me, not you. I trust him.

That being said, I think Prucha will take Jagr's eventualy spot. He has to overcome his lack of size. You can never learn that but if Martin St Louis did it, so can he (though he is clearly not as talented and fast as St Louis).

People calling me names like strange and moron or what not just proves what I was saying originally. That guy "dude" posted about 342344 times in this thing. And always seems to get nasty when people disagree with him. Typical NYer in my opinion.

So your not from NY? Ok.

Yes I am in NY!! Been here forever!
