Avery out of intensive care

That's the word from the Rangers as of a few moments ago. This means the internal bleeding from Avery's lacerated spleen has stopped. He's still several days away from leaving hospital, but this is a vast improvement from when he went into St. Vincent's late on Tuesday night.

Great news. Get well soon, Sean!

I heard he taunted the attending physician and called him fatso when he wouldn't shake Avery's hand.

Man! the doctors sure took their time removing that boom from you a$$ Black & Gold. Welcome back.

.. broom from your...

oh, well I tried. Welcome back anyway.

I wonder what effect this could have on Sather signing him?
I'd like to know more about this Cherepanov situation if Avery does walk.

The truth to signing Avery is simple, either he takes the 2.5 mil per and not a penney more or the Rangers let him walk and some other team can over pay for him. He unfortunately is over estimating his real value. Of course some team will be glad to overpay, but Avery is an agitator, yet he needs to be surrounded by talent in order for him to be the 20 goal scorer. ANd quite frankly he may be marked by the league so the officials have it in for him, probably not a great situation fo the future. If he signs for the reasonable money he is worth then keep him, if not so long and thanks for the memories. There is other talent that has more offensive ability in the organization, Avery is not a SUPERSTAR, nor should the Rangers pay him like one.

Look at the Ranger fans turing on Avery. Ill take him for 3mm a year on the Islanders--maybe 3.5.mm

Hes essential in so many ways and makes a once proud game fun to watch. If you like physical, drama filled hockey, Avery is da man.

Otherwise, hes a jack arse.

But the record shows that when he's in the game the Rangers win.

Did he have a bad season of injuries or is he prone to injuries?
I have to say the team is better with him then without. I think he's a good influence Callahan and Dubinsky's game. He brings snarl up front. Timely goals, but steaky.
He'd be a good winger for Dubinsky next season.
3 mil per yr is a good price.

If Drury's market value is 7 million, then Avery's should be around 6 million.

Anybody hear rumors that Omsk Avangard made deal with the Rangers about Jagr playing in Omsk and mentoring Cherepanov and then Jagr being able to come play for Rangers if they make playoffs (like Forsbers with the Avs). This way Rangers get to save money and finally get a proper captain and Cherepanov likely gets better development and more money. A win-win situation.

How is John Stevens not a Coach of the Year finalist?

How is Tom Renney a coach?

I can play without a spleen ! Hollweg's been playing without a brain for years. Look at Duguay. No brains. Look at all those a-holes in the stands at MSG, no brains. I CAN PLAY ! LET ME PLAY!!!

bob,

yeah, about 2 months ago I mentioned that Jagr - Cherepanov scenario on this very blog.

Do you ever read anyone elses posts?

Or do you just re-read your own vomit all day and night?

Lenny,

Last summer the Flyers spent more money than the Rangers did.

This year, the Rangers had a better record than the Flyers did.

The coach of the year voting is done before the playoffs.

Does that help you in anyway when you ask the question, why is John Stevens not a coach of the year finalist.

Do you know how many posts I have read on other blogs from Flyers fans demanding coach Stevens be fired during this season?

I wish I was as knowlegable as the Islanders bloggers, so I use their sign on.

p.s I take it square in the man shorts daily!

Avery sux and they should of let him lie on the bed like a fish!

JD,

you just wake up and the first thing you feel the need to do in the morning is come on this blog and post that?

you are pathetic, I feel totally embarrassed for you bro.

Larry Brooks reports this morning that the Rangers already are getting a jersey ready for impending UFA Brooks Orpik this summer.

He is definitely #1 on my Christmas list.

Dude,

Dont give him any credit.... he was probably up all night thinking about it.

RANGERS IS 7.... Jagr will drag us through this one and earn his C.

Any time the subject comes up, Bobby tells players that you don't know what first-class treatment is until you play for the RangersNew York Rangers ," our source attests. "He never stops selling New York."
This is why FA's want to come to NY, and remember the NY area would include long lisland if the organization was even as professional as the old LI DUCKS. Sadly, the ISLES might as well be in Siberia as FA's don't find them appealing. It might be the mickey mouse minor league facilities or the total lack of mgmt. Whatever it is th FA's will always pick the Rangers 1 and the Red Wings 2 and every other team a far 3rd when seeking a place to play. And I know all the dumb ass Isles fans will respond with all types of stupidity, yet the facts are the facts and the reason that the Rangers can be accused of over spending for FA's is simply the fatc that every player in the league wants to play on Broadway and even when they leave they talk about the first class treatment. Consider that both Holik and Gomez left Devils for Broadway says alot to the appeal. Wake up Isles fans your team can't compete in this arena.

A vigorous and public issue should have been made by the Rangers as to Malkin's two transgressions.

That's not only because it might, at the least shake up Malkin, but also because a gesture of support of Rangers players was mandatory.

Compare that to what probably happened in the case of Avery and Brodeur. Can anyone doubty that Lou had plenty to say about Avery's antics? (Yeah, Lou's a Bettman supporter and the quick response by Campbell is besides the point).

Lamoriello supported his team.

Without missing a beat.

The message that Sather and Renney have sent is that another team can get away with whatever it wants, no matter how high the stakes at the time and they will not utter a peep of protest in support of their players.

I cannot, for a second believe that Lou Lamoriello would not respond had Malkin done that in a game with the Devils.

Sather is a "lion"? "Pus*y" is more like it.

stnkye,
If Jagr leads the team through a 3-0 deficit he is worth about 1/2 to 3/4 of his current salary and the C. If he leads the team through this and then the Cryers, he his worth the league max. The question is, will he be as good next year without the parts that are around him now (ie Straka, Rosival, Shannahan and Avery)? We watched him flop and flounder around for most of the season because he was without Michael Nylander, and finally he gelled with the guys around him in the last month and started playing like he capable of playing. I wish I could share your optimism. I don't like the referees tendencies to call in a certain direction in certain situations to suit Gary Butt-man's model of a young star, small market winning league. I would love to see the Penguins come back to The Garden for game 6 with a big bloody nose, but I will almost GUARANTEE you that NYR is going to have to not only whether 10 minutes of fury from the Pens but they will have to whether it through a handful of really, really bad calls. Mark my words. Let's kill em off boys, frustrate Cindy-Loo Who and Eu-stinki Malkin, and get their tempers up to make them take a couple of poor penalties in the second and third and make em start to feel the series slip!

Good to see Glen "Gone Fishing" Sather took the time out of his busy fishing schedule to go to the NHL for a clarification on ANYTHING!

But once again, Slats must've had fishing on his brain and chum in his eyes because he went to NHL seeking clarification on the penalty shot. News flash Slats, Lundqvist stopped the penalty shot! The play eventually had no impact other than boost the Rangers morale.

What he should have pursued with NHL was the TWO slewfoot (or does that make is slewfeet?) moves that Malkin put on Mara late in the game. Given Colin Campbell's (NHL Discipline Czar) extreme distaste for the slewfoot, Slats should've at least tried to get a fine or a warning, if not an outright suspension.

Given the opportunity to go after the Penguins best player or "seek clarification" on a non-event - Sather chose the non-event. Well played, sir. Perhaps it is time for you to return to the fishing for I am sure all this front office work must have worn you out.

Below is the NHL Rulebook definition of a "Slewfoot" and right under that is a link to Malkin's textbook definition slewfoot on Mara (fast forward to the 1:42 mark):

"(NOTE 4) "Slew-Footing" is the act of a player using his leg or foot to knock or kick an opponent's feet from under him, or pushes an opponent's upper body backward with an arm or elbow, and at the same time with a forward motion of his leg, knocks or kicks the opponent's feet from under him."
