The space between...

Games 2 and 3 began with practice and will end with down time tonight on a day that finally was infused with playoff weather here in Westchester.

The Rangers are repeating the theme played in the post-game. It's only two. In fact, Jaromir Jagr pointed out that the Devils aren't the Atlanta Thrashers, the victims of a first-round sweep last season.

"It was their first playoff, they're a totally different team than New Jersey is, they didn't have that much experience, they didn't have Marty Brodeur in the net," Jagr said. "We just have a lead, that's all, nothing else."

Coach Tom Renney said he had not been contacted by the league about the 4-minute high-stick call on Christian Backman after the shorter Zach Parise's attempt at a check in Game 2. So a suspension is unlikely, although I will keep tabs on the issue.

***
Interestingly, Renney said that even though he will have the final change for the next two games, he may not opt for regular matchups, saying he prefers the pace and flow of his team when it's going well...Colton Orr skated on his own before practice...Sean Avery, who has scored two crucial goals in the two games, again declined to speak with reporters, as he has done after the games...The Rangers will have an optional practice tomorrow at 11.. Coming up: My Sunday NHL Insider, reprising my ballot for the NHL awards, should be posted on newsday.com soon...If the Rangers manage to advance and the other East series play out as is, the Rangers would visit Montreal...

one step at a time. please no talk about whats next steve.

Appreciate the constant updates Steve, nice job.

All good lennnynyr i was mad cause it just so happens that my last name is Rubinstein, spelled differently.

Lets go rangers so excited to go tomorrow!

very sweet game to go to for my 1st visit to the pebble. Ranger fans although outnumbered took over the place once we got the lead and after the 4 min pk as well. quite a few forwards were on that pk and whenever possible took very short shifts before the next came on.

after the game the walk back to the train station was especially sweet. and when we were on the platform and the guy came by and announced the train to new york the chanting was loud very loud and very sweet. he wasn’t able to finish the rest of his speech.

the rangers and our fans are the best.

I've said it once and I'll say it again; Rangers fans are like European futbol club fans; we're so intense and dedicated we scare non fans.

Agreed, Eric. Zip, please no talk of the next round. Even though Marty isn't Marty right now, he's still Marty. Even though we have Hank, we still need two more wins. This is the Rangers we're talking about so let's take one at a time.

yes, this isnt over by a longshot.

i like the strategy zip mentioned as to what renney is doing by not worrying about the match-ups so much, and just letting the flow dictate the game. all our lines are defensive and the top 3 are offensive, so let the devs worry about focusing on who to stop or not to stop.

im going tomorrow aswell ...sec. 302, come find me if you dont like me :)--... i wont be able to sleep tonight i dont think.

Ok Matt. I thought everybody knew about those two guys.

The Wolfpack knocked the Islanders (Sound Tigers) out of playoff contention tonight. So the Rangers, Pack are in the playoffs, the Isles and Sound Tigers will be watching them on TV, LOL!

Sanguinetti was +2 tonight. Maybe he'll be our rushing defenseman next season.

Zip,

Can you post the links to the Insider articles you mentioned? It's hard to find them on Newsday.com and the Sunday paper hasn't been having much in the sports section, but I'd love to read them.

Any respect that Zipay could have possibly earned and there is little chance he had any, is gone with today's incredibly stupid lead of "Jagr's future with Rangers uncertain" WOW! In the middle of the FIRST rd of the playoffs (one which the Rangers have been playing very well in , including Jags) Zipay decides it is the right time to bring up Jags future, why not go and Ask Avery about his future as well. You couldn't try to create more distraction or controversy if you walked into the locke room with a BOMB strapped to your ass. How STUPID are you really? You asked Renney before gm 2 "How important it was to win gm 2? So, I realize you are stupid, or maybe just have no understanding of sports and the culture that professional athletes create for their focus, but this is almost an intentional effort to sabotage the coaching staff and the team. You should be persona non gratis in the Ranger locker room, Renney should simply make everyone give you the silent treatment. How incredibly ignorant to go asking these types of questions and quoting Jags and these quotes were probably given to you weeks ago when this type of story was being discussed. SUrely you held back and sandbagged the Rangers by printing this story now. Much like SI who gets a story months before the season begins and lands the story on the front page at the beginning of particular season to create controversy. You are the worst type of journalist, as you are a HACK that is concerned with creating drama. Now i know why you are where you are. You belong with the Inquirer!

Hey all good Ranger fans, TJ, DUDE and all you others who are passionate and committed to this team. It is apparent that Zipay is attemting to create controversy for this team, and until the Devils series is over I recommend we go dark on this blog and refuse to support Zipay and his self-promotions "Jagr's Future with Rangers uncertain" as at this very moment Jagr's future with the Rangers is certainly tied to a STanley Cup run in the playoffs. So that part of his future is very certain. Far a Journalist to write something like this at this time is a dagger in Jagr's heart and can cause nothing but controversy and difficulty for Jagr. In fact it is so heartless words cannot do it justice. This blog deserves to be empty except for Bob, and Zipay can spend the next week or so communicating to Bob. Everyone needs to make a tsatement so Zipay can understand just how wrong this article was.

msg4ever,

I hear what you are saying, I think it was an attempt at being Larry Brooks style controversial.

That being said, Zipay's article really doesn't say anything we don't know already, and actually Jagr's own words sum things up best..."STOP ASKING ME ABOUT NEXT YEAR ALREADY!"

The only thing that matter right now is 7pm tonight.

Speaking of Larry Brooks, today he says to keep an eye on impending UFA's Brian Rolston and Michael Ryder, because the Rangers certainly are.

Apparently you missed the words above in BIG LETTERS "THE SPACE BETWEEN...Games 2 and 3 began with practice and will end with down time tonight on a day that finally was infused with playoff weather here in Westchester"
