Rangers 5, Devils 3, lead series 3-1

Some post-game quotes and stats that didn't make the paper:

Six of the goals were at even strength; the Devils were 1 of 3 on the power play; the Rangers 1 of 4.

Scott Gomez had two goals---including his first as a Ranger in the post-season---at 12:37 of the first period, and won 15 of 24 faceoffs...Dan Girardi had a game-high eight hits....
Jagr had a game-high 10 shots and his fourth assist of the post-season...Dubinsky had an assist and won 10 of 20 faceoffs...Straka has four points (1-3-4) in the last two games...

Lundqvist: "This is the biggest game to win, Number 4. We like to play in New Jersey. Hopefully we can keep playing well there."

Renney: "There were times when we couldn't get out of our own end. They were on us. This thing is not over."

Drury: "Their organization has never been known to quit. They have a lot of character over there. They have a lot of Stanley Cups over there. The next game is going to be even tougher."

Brodeur: "We were hoping for a better effort than today. It was an important game and we came out flat. It has been done before (coming back from down 3-1). It is really hard but you start by winning the first game. It is going to be a tough climb."

Devs coach Brent Sutter, disputing the diving call on Brodeur. "I guess it's a penalty. The video shows otherwise."

I hope Sutter gets fired and goes back to Red Deer, where he promised he would never leave.

I respect Brodeur for all that he has accomplished but the way he dives around in the net, he should be preparing to join the Canadian Olympic team and heading to Beijing this summer. He barely got bumped by Jagr and next thing you know his head is whipping back and he's sprawled out on the ice like he'd been shot. All season long, whenever Avery looks at him, his arms are flailing in the air and he falls backwards begging for penalties and now Sutter has the audacity to question his diving penalty? Brodeur has the respect & benefit of the doubt from the officials and is lucky that he doesn't get called more.

The video also shows marty being 3 feet outside the crease.. stay in the the paint and then come talk

Just watched the game... and to clarify... chopping the goalie's stick, legal. Facing the goalie and waving your arms like a monkey, illegal.

Hey Bob, where are all the Renney fans hiding?

we were at the game you never have actually been to a game in your life loser!!! you are a waste of life.

Just tremendous win tonight, my voice is gone, was able to get home in time to watch the replay.

Marc Staal and Brandon Dubinsky, what a treat it is going to be for us real fans who will get to watch them the next 10 to 15 years!!!

"Marc Staal and Brandon Dubinsky, what a treat it is going to be for us real fans who will get to watch them the next 10 to 15 years!!!"

yeah just like it is a treat seeing Prucha oh wait, they no show Prucha anymore, I guess they rather play somebodyelse's aging superstar.

"we were at the game you never have actually been to a game in your life loser!!! "

I actually been and it is more for losers like you who have too much time on their hands and can't think of anything better to spend the money on.

Bob,

the only people who were still awake at 3:11 am when you made your post are night time janitors and people who are unemployed.

which one are you?

How did you like that stake Marc Staal put through your demented heart last night???

LOL YEAH BABY

Steve not much from you or Mr Staple on Parise's illegal play but he quoted...""I've been asked by about 15 different reporters about whether [the Rangers] are targeting Marty," John Madden said, "and those aren't my words. So it's not just me saying I think it's happening.""...Where are you, him, and the rest of the reporters making anything out of PARISE"S slashing Lundqvist's stick out of his hand resulting in a goal? If AVERY did it to the NJ diving goalie , all of you would be all over it! And there'd be a rereading of the rule that's was broken as is.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that if Avery had knocked Brodeur's stick out of his hands, there would be calls for a Congressional hearing.

Wow it's hard to believe we actually won the game that we had to go against the devils and buttman's secret police. That had to be one of the worst offciated games I've seen. Eddie O was actually going wild on versus when Avery got mugged in front of diving mindy and when parise slashed the stick out of Hank's hand which caused a goal. I don't know what nosen or micshitty were saying because i was stuck with versus. Fortunately the play by play guy there did a real great job along with Eddie O. Especially saying how bad the refs were without comming out and saying it. I bet Eddid O will be getting a call from buttman today.Staal played a strong game and deserved to score the winner. In fact all the young guys were great, our future looks good with these guys leading the way. But who ever said that renney needs to do some yelling or at least call the ref over to ask questions is right,c'mon tom wake up say something to these baffoons!

Dude so what was it actually like to be there and watch such an exciting game?

well, I can't speak today, only type

I wasn't in the building in 1994 and obviously I am sure it was louder those nights, but personally, when Staal scored last night, that was the loudest thing I have ever heard in my life.

Even leaving the arena was great, ushers and other workers slapping us high fives and then we get down to the trains, and the LIRR did a great thing by adding extra trains because the Mets and Yankees were all home last night too.

Good job LIRR

Great night all around.

In 4 playoff games, we have goals from 4 different rookies, how sweet is that???

Last nights game was a prime example of what is wrong with hockey. Most hockey fans watched the game in disbelief at the penalties called and the penalties that were missed. The gameplay itself was fun and exciting, but when a casual observer watches and sees Gomez tripped and no penalty is called, they wonder what the rules are.

Terrible calls and missed calls both ways, but I'd have to say the majority of the missed calls were on things the devils did.
trip on gomez
dubinsky tackled in front of the devils net right before the devils 3rd goal
parise slashing the stick out of lundqvists hands... which resulted in a goal
and HOW MANY TIMES ARE THE DEVILS GOING TO GET AWAY WITH TOO MANY MEN. The Rangers were called for the EXACT same thing earlier in the game.

Officiating aside, the Rangers sure showed guts and the ability to fight through whatever comes their way.

LETS GO RANGERS !!!!

Dubinsky is looking like an great player. If they dont bring back Jagr next year, they'd be silly. Dubi and Jagr have some amazing chemistry between them. Staal, of course, played a great game too. Its great to see this team finally come together, with the vets and the new guys contributing in all areas.

Zip, not sure if you were there when Crybaby Sutter had his press conference but I watched it on FSNY. While Sutter was complaining about the Rangers crashing Martina he practically threatened Hank. Then a reporter, who should receive the Pulitzer because he had the ba**s to push Sutter, asks Sutter about Parise causing Hank to lose his stick. Sutter is speechless because he's been nailed. The he says, with a straight face mind you, "Well, he was pushed into him". Pushed into him??? He has no clue. I only wish the reporter had followed up and said he slashed it out of Hank's hand. Zip, if you were there please tell me that reporter was you or Sam!!!!

One other interesting item from last night. On MSG,NY last night they had Kaufman, Fischler & Goring in the studio and then Michelletti and Resch from the Garden. They start getting into the crashing of the goalies. So Kaufman ask the "panel" if the Devils need to "run Lundqvist" and Michelletti laughs. Fischler goes off on Michelletti for laughing and says that the Devils should "absolutetly run Lundqvist". Michelletti says that Fischler is being ridiculous and Fischler continues to yell. Then Fischler says that Jagr purposely went after Martina with a knee to the head and that he tried to hurt him. This sets Michelletti of and he says JJ never has and never would run a goalie and that Fischler is being insane. Just great stuff and good for Michelletti for sticking up for JJ to that dumbass Fischler. Needless to say, Resch was also of the opinion that the Rangers are trying to hurt Maritina and that JJ did it on purpose. No mention that it all looks worse than it is because of all of Marty's diving.

Just a quick story for all the Michelletti haters out there.

Zip, anything from the Rangers about all the talk????

Ruchin 20, for your information, slashing the goalie's stick is goaltender interference. That goal should have been disallowed.

FACT!!!

guys the Rangers didn't really beat the Devils last night. The Rangers beat the Refs.
Why isn't that being talked about. Forget running the goalies, that's normal this time of year. Why aren't the papers talking about the onesided refs calls, Marty the diving goalie, the Praixie stick slashing?
I had a few fiends over the house last night for poker. None of them hockey fans. When one of your none hockey fan friends points out that the refs are making bad one sided calls with it being mentioned before hand - it's a clue that something is fishy. Let along the smell of fish.
Todays story headline should have read " Rangers beat Refs, Devils blow advantage.

I'm late to the boards so excuse me if I'm rehashing the same thing, but why aren't people talking about what the Devils are doing to Henriq? All I'm reading is about how NY is bumping Marty and abusing Marty and all that, but what about all the after-whistle slashes on Henriq, or the multiple ice sprays, or knocking the stick out last night. All the Devils are quoted in the press saying how they're going to retaliate b/c of what NY is doing to Brodeur, but how can they retaliate when they're already doing the same thing.

It's playoff hockey, so tensions are high and the game is more aggressive (which includes goalies) so I'm okay with letting certain things slide, but it's hypocritical for NJ to say NY is so bad when they're doing the same things.

Bringing back Jagr would be a huge mistake. I don't care how much they are raving about him now, he still sucks.

Hey Bob, you get a job yet?

The dirtiest guy on the ice the entire series has been Zubrus. This guy holds, hits late and does whatever the heck he wants to the Rangers. And Blow-deur has been embarassing himself with the dramatized flops and dives when a Ranger get anywwhere near him.

With the exception of game 3, credit the Rangers for playing a physical yet controlled game. As well as some of the players are playing, you have to credit Tom Renney a bit here. He's made them rise to the task thus far.

After the game last night, some of us hung around the MSG garage entrance waiting for players to come out. The Devils' bus pulls out and sitting in the front seats are Lamoriello and Sutter, with the gloomiest looks on their faces. We have pictures, which are worth a few thousand words.
A bit later, Henrik came out, and as he was signing a few autographs, I asked him if the team was happy to win in spite of the refs. He looked up and said, 'What was that?' I repeated the question, and he put on a big smile as he continued to sign autographs. I think that said it all.

I'm a Ted Nolan Type of blogger.

just so you know, bob is yenner mot et al from other blogs .He's been banned, run off from, or just ignored. He lives in his mommies basement. He needs help, but refuses to get it or it's not working. Maybe he's off his meds.....too bad he's not a fan of another team.

Aside from Jagr going to the net WITH the puck, I have yet to see a Ranger crash Brodeur in his crease without being pushed into him.

And your point?

The point...Stop whining about Brodeur getting bumped or crashed into. Blame Devil defenseman. Unless that's the Devil plan knowing the refs will be looking to call a penalty on any kind of contact.

that's the devils plan alright. That and to cry. Oh, wait and to get all that help from those crooked refs.

bob,

in the immortal words of jim schoenfeld :
"eat another doughnut ya fat pig!"..your jobless, homeless, friendless, brainless, useless, pointless (meaning your life is)..and you need a hobby to keep you busy, blogging isnt the answer. you get your "jollies" by wishing people dead and thats grounds grounds for entry into an asylum...why dont you wish YOURSELF dead and just pull the trigger already...its ok we wont miss you in the least.
--------------------------------------------------

now to the game!...oooooooooh baby!!

wat a game to see in person, i never had so much fun with my clothes on...lol

talk about redemption, how bout marc staal? i never heard something so loud in my entire life as i did when he scored.

how bout freakin dan girardi, that guy is a beast: setting up goals, preventing goals and hitting everything in red and black!

thank goodness drury scored, was getting worried about him.

these refs have now hit a new level of incompetence. the parise slash of hanks stick simply cannot be missed by this so called wonderful never miss anything 2 referee "system".

anyway, now some negatives from me, MR. POSITIVE. we really need to "tidy" (renney's favorite word) up in the defensive zone...we are making far to many lazy plays and passes and taking lazy penalties. if we do that next round vs. pitt or mtl we are toast, especially with the possiblity of sid the kid. you think the devils get calls, wait'll we face that mockery of officiating cuz we all know if crosby gets breathed on wrong its 2 minutes. all year long our defense has held shots faced to a minimum, but now jersey seems like theyre getting alot more shots on net..the PK has been dreadful in this series, and thats against jersey. hank has to be better too, he has slipped into that "nervous nelly" area again where it looks like he is fighting the puck..i noticed it in game 3. other then that i cant complain, they have really stepped up this series and played as a team and coulda swept this series if not for a lucky bounce off staal.
