Plenty of superstars in Pittsburgh and Manhattan.
But I'm thinking this series may turn on an overtime goal, a shortie or a deflection by a player just outside the limelight
Joffrey Lupul anyone?
How about Nigel Dawes? Maxime Talbot? Dan Girardi? Tyler Kennedy?
While I wrap up my page of matchups and a story for tomorrow's paper, finish packing and consider what colors we may paint the house and shutters and windowboxes (the sanders and power-washers were humming today), please throw out some names and scenarios.
Game 1 will be big; Tom Renney thinks both teams won't be as rusty as writers believe. Pens have won 10 in a row at home. A Rangers win could affect the confidence of both sides.
Anyway, I'm thinking Dawes is due.
I'll check back in later...

Sorry Zip, I'm gonna jump in here and be 1st cuz apparently all the Ranger "fans" are too busy tearing wings off of flies on Logan's blog or on Staple's article worrying about the refs to post anything worthwhile over here...
My players to watch?
Malone and Dubinsky.
Both are playing on lines with people who can make them heros.
Prucha, Mara
Malone definitely, he's the one who doesn't get the attention on the Pens but delivers.
Sean Avery, Dubinsky, Roberts,
the first 4 games will be split. then we will take the next 2 with Ryan Callahan scoring the game winner in game 6.
My vote for unsung hero in the series goes to Martin Straka or Michael Rozsival. While I'm worried Jagr may be neutralized by a combination of Mario's aura, the booing, and Hal Gill, I expect the other two former Pens to rise to the occassion.
On the Pen's side, Pascal Dupuis always seems to do well against us.
Thomas Pock
i just hope the "unsung goat" is not Renney. I hope he doesnt try to overcoach this one. Let his players play, have faith in his 4 lines and top 4 D, and the Rangers depth should come through.
Dawes looked tentative in the opening series against the Devils. He showed tiny glimmers of potential and would love to see him come through. However, it's Callahan's fearlessness and grittiness that will make him the unsung hero.
A better question might be, who is going to shutdown Gomez? I have a feeling he'll be flying...
I hope Malone is wearing Ranger blue next year
Chris Drury.
If Ryan Malone is wearing Ranger blue next year, gonna be tough to retain Sean Avery and stay within the cap.
I would love to have them both though.
I think I might rather have Malone. He is a better goal scorer and he can punch you in the mouth.
Reminds me of a young Shanahan a little bit.
unsung hero ? Maybe Dubinsky who dominated on faceoffs.... Straka played well too, not amazing, but it sure helps that he plays with Jagr and Dubi.
No one seems to be talking about the Pens inability to win faceoffs.
