Coming Up: Rangers vs. Penguins/Canadiens

Not the optimal draw.

If Flyers win Game 7 Tuesday in D.C., it's Rangers-Pens on Thursday or Friday in Steel City.
If Caps win Game 7, it's bye-bye Philly and for yours truly, bonjour, Montreal, on Thursday or Friday.

Too bad about the Bs, just not enough scoring.

Rangers skate at 11. We'll be there...

"you mean they trap more to protect Henrietta because he allows bad goals from everywhere.

Flukehead let up softies all through the Devils, amazing the phoney spin coming from the Rag shills.

Get out of New York, it's ISLANDER COUNTRY"

anon,

have a pair and put a name in da box, wat a puss...and i seen recantly that all the islanders left the "country" for the GOLF LINKS of ireland and jolly ole england. maybe your wanted there too... cheerio

and

if a couple of lucky goals against a series is our weakness, i ll take it and run... our goalie is VEZINA candidate AGAIN, while yours is a versus analyst having trouble putting two words together because of the numeous head injuries hes recieved...so i wouldnt be talking bad about "henrietta" if i were you, id be praying that 15 year deal he signed get bought out, cuz he fleeced you bad..bad-bad-bad!

-----------------------
id rather face mtl over pitt. considering we would hafta beat sid, malkin and "the refs in their back pocket" idea..all mtl has is a PP and kovalev (who avery woud turn his attention to quite early and drive him absolutely nuts)

Rangers on Letterman tonight (Monday)...

New York Rangers Brendan Shanahan, Sean Avery, Scott Gomez, Fredrik Sjostrom and goalie Henrik Lundqvist will be featured in tonight’s “Late Show with David Letterman” along with comedians Billy Crystal and Chris Elliott. The Late Show airs at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

Steve, how come you didn't know about this?
:-)

I don't think anyone should be fooled by Montreal going seven against Boston. That is, assume they are going to be tired out. Watching this game it didn't look like Montreal broke much of a sweat.

Think the Rags are gonna get by on a "no name defense"? I implore you guys to watch what Montreal did to the Boston D tonight. It was ugly.

Of the teams the Rags may face I think Montreal does a better job of exposing their weakness on D. Those guys are just fast and flat out burn you.

The Rags probably have Montreal beat in goal though.

Pittsburgh may be the more difficult matchup. Those guys are just loaded with offensive fire power. Playoff series are about matching up and I don't think the Rags match up well against those guys.

Pittsburgh is also one of the few that has a good goaltending tandem. ANd Conklin aint no slouch in net should the Rags have a game where they chase Fleury early.

These next two match ups home ice really matters. Especially when you are talking about Montreal.

If I were the Rags I might opt for Pittsburgh next.

i agree with you that montreal would be a better matchup for the rangers than pittsburgh but the fact is that if pittsburgh really is as good as we all seem to think they are than the rangers are going to have to face them eventually...

I hear that Montreal goal horn and "Vertigo" by U2 in my nightmares after that 6-5 game. I really don't wanna see the Rangers have to go up there.

" ANd Conklin aint no slouch in net should the Rags have a game where they chase Fleury early"

Ooooh, what a scary scenario!!

Let me think, it's early in a game vs Pittsburgh and we have already scored enough goals where we have forced the Pens to take their #1 goalie out.....OOOH MY, wouldn't want that to happen!!

TY Conklin???? Oh No!!! I am terrrrrrrrrified!

Lots of people still talking about the Montreal comeback game.

You know the game we still ended up with getting 1 point and the game that set us off to finish the season playing our best hockey of the year.

No one ever talks about the fact that in the other 3 games vs Montreal, we won 4-1, 4-3 and 5-3.

Renney coached those games too by the way.

Ranger haters love to bring that Montreal comeback game all the time. I actually see that game as a positive.

I am very glad it happened in a regular season game, I think they learned something very valuable that night.

That won't happen in the post season I guarantee you.

Dude...just to add to your thought....in that 5-3 win (merely a week before the implosion) the boys were down 3-0 and came back to win IN REGULATION...Selective memories on a lot of people. Seven out of a possible eight points against the Habs, and we're talking about a 6-5 anomaly that is a lesson better learned in the regular season.

Dude...a couple of strings ago, you mentioned about the Rangers picking up the full tab for next year if Jagr had won the Hart. I thought they would only be on the hook for all the dough if they exercised the club option, but if Jags hit one of the performance based objectives then the Caps were still picking up half his contract. Larry Brooks wrote this as well the other day when he was referencing the Conn Smythe clause....what is your source on this...just checkin.

GWN,

read this article from Brooks earlier in the season, it talks about the injustice that Jagr didn't win the 2006 Hart and that would have been one of the triggers.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/11272007/sports/rangers/huge_im_pact_812998.htm

Dude...I read this earlier this year, but it kind of jumps around a bit from the start to the end, and it looks like they can still keep this $$ off the cap...I copied and pasted the line about the performance related triggers below. Also, below is a link from LB from last week. Talks about a one year extension with a cap hit of 4.94 million if he wins the Conn Smythe

"The only way for the Rangers to continue to reap their current cap discount into next season would be for Jagr to hit any one of his triggers. "

http://www.nypost.com/seven/04182008/sports/rangers/conn_job_107080.htm

Firstly, the Rangers D is not SLOW like the Bruins, so the comparison in a Mont series is simply not there. BY now it would seem that those who continue to rip on the Rangers D men are simply not watching. All season it has been said that the Rangers weakness is their D and they simply gave up the second least amount of goals in the East. Not bad for a team that has such a glaring weakness, this is almost the same as those who contiually said the Giants weakness was their secondary and all that talk led to was a SB victory against arguably the greatest offensive team in NFL history. SO, you will forgive me if I pay no attention to the continued attack on the Rangers D. ALl they have to do is continue to win and suddenly the talk is cheap and meaningless. The way the Rangers played against Pitt and Mont during the season clearly points to the fact that they can BEAT this teams. WHo they get is meaningless, they need to continue to play patient, disciplined hockey and in the end they will beat either of these teams. Rangers in 6 for Pitt and Rangers in 5 for Mont. (Price cannot shut down the pressure with Rangers)

A good reason to draw Mont would be the 7th gm hangover that is usually an opportunity to steal gm won on the road. The Rangers could take advantage of this emotional let down. After a 7th game survival there is usually an emotional letdown to begin the next series. This is a great draw for Rangers, so I personally am rooting for the Caps in gm 7 tonight.

GWN,

I think you are right, if Jagr had hit one of those triggers, the Caps would have still been on the hook for next season.

But, to be honest, don't you think we should be able to sign Jagr to a 1 year deal for next year where it wouldn't even be a 4.94 million cap hit?

I think a deal similar to what Shanahan got this year, incentive laden is the best way to go with Jagr.

All in all, I think Jagr being a UFA this summer is the best thing that could have happened.

msg4ever,

I agree and I want the Caps to win tonight and the series to start Thursday in Montreal. Not Friday.

I want the Habs to have the least time off possible.

I too will be pulling for the Caps tonight, for several reasons. One, I would love to see the Flyers knocked out. Two, AO vs Cindy would be a great series to watch. Third and most important, I'd rather get Montreal becuase of the rook in net. As much as I can't stand listening to those Frenchy fans boo about every call they don't get, I would love nothing more than out boys knocking them out.

Missed Letterman last night, how did the boys do?

I'm with you Brian on all 3 points. Price won't hold up. Alex vs. Sidney would be great hockey to watch as a fan. Rangers nocking out the Habs, just gives you a warm fuzzy fealing to have the Canadians wait for another year!!!!

I want to play the Pens for the simple reason that they have has just as much time off as us. I'm worried about playing the Habs, because they are still feeling high from their game 7/series win, and going with the momentum. The pens, like us, have been off for a while, and may be rusty..but who knows. Rangers can beat anyone in the East when they play their game, but the whole rest/momentum stuff worries me.

Did anyone else see this...what is wrong with the Montreal fans. Have they never won a series before?

http://sports.aol.com/nhl/story/_a/police-cars-torched-after-canadiens-win/20080422082109990001?icid=100214839x1200522773x1200018698

It's ridiculous what those Montreal fans do.

It was a near riot the night of the Montreal 6-5 comeback too, they littered the ice in the 2nd period like nothing I've ever seen.

They are maniacs.

Did you see where martina is blaming avery and the ranger circus for being tired and he's not playing for canada in the world championships. His lack of class keeps showing more and more. Maybe he's working on his diving or looking for another sister in law lmao Nabokov for Vesina

8jeez, imagine what the hab fans will do if they win a cup.

bob,

we get it..anything involving the rangers is an embarressment in the world of bob..move along space cadet...

bzzzzzzzzz....bzzzzzzzzzzzzz...BOB, STOP IT!!!!..bzzzzzzzz, bzzzzzzzzzzzz..DAMIT!!..bzzzzzzzzzz, bzzzzzzz...GRRR, BOB!!...bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...SWATTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!, ah got the bastid!

..I..

vince,

i did see that too..marty has blamed everyone all year for everyting, he even blamed his defense early in the season..he nevervtakes the blame for anything, way to be a teammate

Ranger, Islander and Devils fans can agree on one thing...You don't see sports riots in this supposed region of psychotic, unsportmanlike fans. We're all crazy, but we keep our crazy between ourselves and well down below the "riot like a drunken European soccer fan level". The occasional beer-toss, or fistfight, while it can be done without, pales in comparison with storming the streets of downtown and burning of police cars.

For the next round, let's see anyone but Montreal win that series. In 4.

I wouldn't include Isles fans in the sportsmanlike category. they tend to do their rioting by throwing all sorts of crap on the ice. granted they didn't torch any police cars yet but they are far from angels.
