Back on the road....

On the road to rock 'n' roll
There's a lot of wreckage in the ravine
Some you recognize
Used to hang out on the scene
On the road to rock 'n' roll
We'll be in the delta by and by
And if you don't believe in good and evil
You can tell the devil why....

----Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros

The sand's running through the hourglass: Finally time to head to Pittsburgh. Beats the drive to Newark.
Arthur Staple will cover for me at practice today; I'll be at LaGuardia, waiting for a plane.
My matchups and a piece on Marc and Jordan Staal are here and here, if my pals at dot.com oblige...

Didn't have space for this yesterday, but after practice, Jaromir Jagr compared Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin to Mario Lemieux and the league then and now:

"I don’t think they’re better than him and I say that with all respect to them because the game has changed. The thing is, the gap between the best players and the worst players on a team is small compared to what it was. The gap between Mario and the rest of the guys when I was Pittsburgh was huge. He was able to score 20 points in one playoff series. I don’t think those kids are able to do that. Maybe I’m wrong and if I’m wrong I’m going to apologize and tell them, ‘Great job.’ But that’s the difference between the 90s and the teams I played on and today. He was able to win hockey games by himself. I remember some games we won 6-5 and he scored six points. The next game we won 5-3 and he scored five points. But the league has changed. You can do it once in a while, but not every night like him.”

Going to be a busy weekend; expecting thunderstorms in Pittsburgh tomorrow and Saturday. Keep those unsung heroes from the last post coming and ask any questions you'd like. Game 1 only on Versus, 2 on NBC. I'm thinking home-ice advantage will be a major factor and unless the Rangers can end it in six, it's the Pens in seven. Wouldn't complain if the Rangers prove me wrong, though. Montreal in the spring is very cool and Philly's just a drive...

On the other series (and we welcome your thoughts) , I'm thinking Montreal in six, San Jose in seven and something tells me Colorado, in an upset, in six. What the heck. Time for my boot heels to be wandering. Will check in later...

Good song!

I think Rangers in 6 games. Hopefully Jagr's comments won't bite us in the butt in the end.

Shame on you, Zip, for picking the Pens in 7.

Have some f'ing confidence in your team.

Jesus, it's no wonder the Rangers aren't being given a shot by all the so-called experts, the Rangers writers won't even pick them to win.

Steve: How come MSG can broadcast 1st round but not the 2nd? I hate watching the Versus coverage. They don't do a good job at all. Don't show replays, miss calls- no in depth coverage.

Well I've never been here before
But I'm coming back tomorrow
For the real pain - a cold rain again

Nice day for a crucifixion
Heard a new prediction
That we can all be saved - so I'll have

One more for the road - play it again
One more for the road

Never heard this before
That a child can tell who's evil
But it's a good thing if we sing along

Cold day - we can make a fire
Burn another liar
Can witches ever die - hey let's burn

One more for the road - gimme the same again
One more for the road

Well I've never been here before
And the room is really empty
But there's a big line waiting for the show
Nice day for an execution
Another wrong conclusion
But someone's got to pay - so let's burn

One more for the road - same again
One more for the road

There's a child who just sees evil
And a man who just loves pain
But I've heard that we can't save them
So gimme me the same again

There's a cross that you can't carry
Cause it's heavier than hell
And if you should meet your maker
Just pray that he won't yell
One more for the road

One more for the road
One more for the road
One more for the road

--Dio

Slowly bleeding, watch the vortex feeding
Like a swirling vulture on your face
Every hour the unseen rays devour
Your screaming eyes cry out but they are blind

Father, forgive me my sins
Give me the nails, I'll hammer them in

The road to hell is full of good intentions
Say farewell, we may never meet again
The road to hell is full of good intentions
Travel left-hand highway with no sinister regrets

Brave new world of secret fantasy
That hovers just beyond your bloody grasp
Close enough to thrill, the danger of the kill
Price for failure of your will

Father, forgive us our sins
'Cause we're all the junkies who never can win

The road to hell is full of good intentions
Say farewell, we may never meet again
The road to hell is full of good intentions
Travel left-hand highway with no sinister regrets

Father, forgive me my sins
Give me the nails, I'll hammer them in

The road to hell is full of good intentions
Parody of hope is the one that I must kill
We all have to live with our family inventions
Travel left-hand highway with no sinister regrets

--Bruce Dickinson

bob,

how do you get to use the internet so often being in prison and all?

""He was able to score 20 points in one playoff series. I don’t think those kids are able to do that.""

I'm uncomfortable with that statement. Way to tempt fate. I hope Jagr undoes the jinx there.

Maybe I'm just getting nervous.

if the rangers win at least one road game before game 7 i like their chances a lot better than going into a possible game 7 not winning on the road at all. with that said, rangers in 6

prediction for game 1: 4-2 rangers, penguins will realize too late they aren't playing the depleted and heartless senators and king henrik showing fleury what playoff hockey is all about

Zipay, why don't you interview Prucha and ask him what he thinks about his treatment and about Renney?

i see no reason why if the flyers could win game 7 in d.c. after losing 5 and 6 and giving all momentum to the caps, that if it came down to it, the rangers couldn't beat the pens in a game 7 finale either. keep in mind that although it would be in pitt, the rangers too would know going into that game that losing that game 7 would mean season is over.

Jagr is a first ballot HOFer, a top 15 wing in the HISTORY of the league. He can say anything he wants, and if Cindy wants to cry, then I'm not surprised.

1) Only Versus for Game 1, no MSG also? I'm hoping MSG is allowed to broadcast it so we can hear Sam and Joe instead of Doc and Eddie O.

2) Colorado over Detroit sounds right. And my pick: Rangers in 5!

Jags comments were not in any way negative nor can they be used to motivate an opponent. This was not trash talk it was a true comaprison between arguably the greatest player ever and todays great players. Yes, show me a series where a player scored 20 pts anytime recently. You can't and it won't happen either as the game is no longer built for 6-5 or 5-4 race track games. Yes two of the Ranger Devils games were of the 5-4 persuasion and yet no player put up 5 or 6 points in any of those games did they. The Rangers showed over the last 4 games between these two that they can limit the amount of shots that Pitt gets. These pattern is not going to change, the pens want ot force an uptempo game yet they can't do it against Rangers because they open themselves up to the counter punch, so Pitt plays the Rangers game and it ultimately becomes a low scoring affair. The team that scores first is not quite as important as it was against Devils, but it does help in getting the Pens to open up. I think the Rangers will steal 1 or hte first two on the road and hold home ice for a series win in 6. The difference will be special teams and goaltending.

bob, nothing against Dio or Dickenson, but you need to listen to some more recent metal.

Try Decrepit Birth !

Zippy, Arthur Staple wrote some terrible article yesterday. Please stop him !!!!

i think bob needs to get hit on the head with an electric guitar...or maybe he can play the guitar in a bath tub full off water and fry his friggin fingers off so he cant type here anymore. however, knowing the sicko he prolly would use his tounge to type.

..I..

rucchin,

most games are on versus AND on all local networks at the same time. i could be wrong, but i believe that NBC has exclusive rights (weekend games) and versus does not. in the finals and maybe even confence finals too, i dont think local tv does games at all tho.

LOL. ARE YOU F'ING SERIOUS???

Published: Tuesday, April 22, 2008 AND HIS QUALIFICATIONS ARE?: Star New York Ranger and man-about-town Sean Avery is out to build up his résumé this summer — by interning at Vogue, as reported by Page Six the Magazine and The New Yorker. But what does the person dubbed "the most hated man in hockey" for his style of play know about fashion? Well, quite a lot — Avery is a self-confessed clotheshorse who has been known to give girlfriends advice on how to dress, and in interviews has expressed a dream to become a fashion editor after his days on the ice (he'll likely be a big help clearing through the crush of shows). "He says that he prizes his black patent leather Yves Saint Laurent high-tops, 'a lovely cashmere throw from a friend who works at Calvin Klein' and his Philippe Starck machine-gun-shaped lamp," reports The New Yorker's Nick Paumgarten in this week's issue. So how did Avery get the Vogue gig? He wrote a letter to Anna Wintour expressing his desire to work there (presumably his day job helped the missive get some attention). Avery will report to 4 Times Square this summer, though his first day hasn't been confirmed (a Vogue spokesman said it depends on how well the Rangers do in the playoffs). And what, exactly, will he be doing? The spokesman said Avery likely will work with a variety of editors, including European editor at large Hamish Bowles. There's also talk of him working at Men's Vogue. And the spokesman claimed that, like most interns, the 28-year-old Avery will be expected to do traditional assistantlike tasks — making copies and messengering couture gowns, for instance. Interns clamoring for a staff position would eagerly do such tasks to secure a $30,000-a-year, low-level editorial position. Avery clearly won't have the same motivation — his contract with the Rangers earned him nearly $2 million this season.

— Stephanie D. Smith

I didn't post that, but this isn't exactly news, this has been known for awhile about Avery and Vogue.

and guess what, NOBODY CARES!!!

if Bob played the guitar, I would take his guitar like John Belushi did in Animal house and smash the crap of it, but use Bob's head and not the wall.

Effigy, I am not a big death or black metal fan. I do listen to many new bands though as well as old. I have over 900 cds at home, and 98% of them are metal.

versus has exclusive rights to games 1 and 4. and nbc has 2 and 5. so msg can have games 3 and if necessary the last 2. also has post game coverage to all games
