If Scott Gomez plays against his former team tonight, how would the lineup shake out?
One plan:
Avery-Dubinsky-Jagr
Dawes-Gomez-Shanahan
Straka-Drury-Callahan
Sjostrom-Hollweg-Prucha
In this scenario, Colton Orr would be a healthy scratch.
If his value is as a deterrent to say, Clarkson and Brookbank, well, that's a risk, but the Rangers could survive that. Fourth line hasn't received much ice time recently, and I'm not really sure that in a game of this magnitude, the Devs will be all that chippy.
For the Rangers, the real need is goals against Martin Brodeur and anybody else in the next few games. Three lines would be re-united and the fourth has a shot at scoring.
Thoughts?

i like it.
i liked Sjostrom's speed and drive to the net.
Prucha looked very determined (from what little i could endure the other night)
and it would be VERY NICE to have a 4th that does more than
knock some time off the clock......and is a scoring threat.
a twist on the saying.......from your blog to Tom Renney's ears!!
Radio 660 just reported that Gomes will play today.
I agree with Sec 314 - gotta be cautious with Gomez...look for a goon like Clarkson or Pandalfo to throw an elbow in Gomez's side.
Also, I cant see Renny NOT dressing Orr for a game like tonight.
that's the lines i've been hoping for before gomez got hurt. it's good to have Orr in the game in case it gets dirty but that need hasn't come up once since Prucha has sat. We need goals at this point and we still have guys that will drop the gloves in Avery, Dubinsky, Callahan, etc. if it did get dirty even though these guys are not big fighters. We need the wins now more than ever.
upstate,
pandolfo is not a goon by any means, thats kinda funny that you said that tho...lol. also, he and gomez are best friends. clarkson is there version of avery. NJ is gonna risk points by cheap shotting anyone
oops..ISNT gonna risk points i meant
I know, my mistake and didn't exactly mean Pandolfo - meant more along the lines of Clarkson and Brookbank, and even the likes of C. White. Pandolfo is a solid player and plays his team role to perfection. Thankfully, NJ doesnt have scotty Stevens anymore. Friends or no friends, you know he'd like to soften up Gomer's ribs a little.
My point is, even if Gomez's ribs are in the least bit sore, you better believe NJ will look to make them more so. Not so much in a dirty way, but perhaps in the fashion of finsihing checks on him and giving him extra rib shots in front of the net.
But if hes says hes ready to go, let him go.
I like the line-up Zip, let's go with it. I agree the Devs will be a little cautious when it comes to extra curricular activities. They need this game too. I like Orr and I feel he actually brings more to the game other than his fists. But for tonight I would like to see Sjostrom & Pru on the ice together, just keep Hollweg out of the way!
I like th elines and I agree Pandolfo is not a goon at all. I am a huge Ranger fan and I know what a pro Pandolfo is just like Madden.
Clarkson is like Avery probably a better fighter but not as capable of a player.
if the yuse Ziapys lineup they have 4 lines the 4th line would be much better then most 4th lines.
I would rather have Prucha center and Orr in instead of Hollweg. In my opinion Hollweg is more of a liability than Orr.
The only problem with Steve's proposed line-up is that 8 out of 12 listed forwards are 5'10" and under (ok, prucha is listed at 6'0 but he only weighs about a 175 lbs. And, Cally and Hollweg are listed at 5'11" on the NYR website but anyone who actually believes that needs to put the pipe down)
Throw in a non-existent power play and the absence of Colton Orr and the Devs (as any team would) will gladly trade a few short handed situations (against an impotent powerplay) for several runs Gomez's ribs.
We need Bobby in the line-up
I think Orr should play instead of Hollweg... Hollweg is terrible..
btw...anyone hear the broadcast the other night when the VS team said that it was Orr in a scrap after the whistle when it was really Prucha?
How the hell can you mess that up?? about 6 inches and 60lbs difference...
"If his value is as a deterrent to say, Clarkson and Brookbank, well, that's a risk, but the Rangers could survive that."
Are you crazy? Brookbank and Clarkson will beat up our star players without Orr. We cannot afford that. Orr has to play on top line with Jagr and Gomez as their vodyguard.
Agreed 100% - Thats an ideal line up. Hope to see it tonight!
speaking of VS, how TERRIBLE was their broadcast the other night?
no hollweg, go with orr, and i still dont think gomez should play, after seeing how much we needed him last game, im terrified of him getting checked hard and breaking a rib....but if he wants to play, i guess he will play..thats what hockey is all about
CAUTION - Any foolish post by "bob" is to stir the pot and to rile up Rangers fans. Respond at your own risk!
Versus is terrible. THey hate the rangers its so obvious and for the last 2 games on VS ive been muting the game. I cant stand there crap all they do is talk about the other team and never say anything about the rangers game. Ohh ya they talked about the Montreal Rangers melt down game on tuesday. F that r u serious get a life Versus. Anyone else agree with me?
whenever anyone talks about the "Montreal meltdown game" nobody ever mentions the fact that the wonderful Canadiens fans that night littered the ice with garbage and scared the officials into making several questionable penalty calls in that 3rd period.
I am a litte sick of hearing about that game.
Dude,
you are 100% right. You dont hear ANYTHING about how Habs fans made fools of themselves. Its pretty pathetic, cause if something like that happened when the Canadians took a 5-0 lead and fans in say..... Florida threw garbage all over the ice, you can bet that the Canadian media would be all over that !
you don't have to go to Fla to see fans throw crap on the ice., icelander fans did it several times in the playoffs last yr. well at least they won't disgrace the nhl in the playoffs this yr.
