Gomez: No broken bones, may play Tuesday

A relieved Scott Gomez and the Rangers received some welcome news this morning: The Rangers' leading scorer feels much better.

Gomez hit a rut on the ice in the first period and crashed into the boards in Philadelphia, a play that sidelined him for the 4-3 overtime loss.

"If I can play, I'm gonna play," said Gomez, who said his upper body (ribs) is bruised, but not severely damaged. Asked how it looks, Gomez said playfully: "It's like a bluish, brownish color with a little mixture of purple....It's day to day, I got some good news so we'll see how I feel tomorrow."

After team dcctors examined him this morning, Gomez said, "maybe the description (Friday) was a little off...no broken bones"

More from the skate later...

well, ill be damned if that aint the best news i heard ina long time!!...sorry petr :)

couldnt have gotten better news haha :-D. ALthough im not opposed to him taking a few days off maybe a game or two. make sure hes 100%. I dont want to rush him.

BIG RELIEF!!! He should atleast sit Tuesday out, getting Prucha some playing time, maybe at center where he's had some experience, god knows the PP could use him. Moving Sjostrom up eliminating the 4th line till Betts comes back, could make this team more dangerous as well as playing Henrik from here on out.

Gomez can rest his groin too.

you know if this were a baseball injury the player would be on the DL for a month or so..buncha pusses

i say give him a week off..is only 2 games and theyre home (philly and jersey)

i highly doubt prucha would be the answer to the awful PP, no one player is gonna do that unless its brian leetch. they need to just shoot the puck at will..get a garbage goal and go from there. they pass and skate around in circles way to much and have no desperation in the PP. just think of how good this team would be in they ever got it going.

speaking of good, anyone watch san jose lately?..thy are by far the best team in hockey right now..and if we make the finals, thats who were playing i think :/

Good news.... but why not rest Gomez if hes not 100%. Id rather they let him rest and not make anything worse.

Whoever made that ice that in Philly purposely, YOU ARE A TOTAL M*RON.

Give Gomez a few more days. One of the advantages of having depth is for case just like this.
Besides, with all the tinkering Renney has done with the lines all season, one or two more game won't hurt anything. In Feb are best line was Dubinsky, Dawes and Prucha. Why not give them a reunion this week.
How about that Backman, huh?!

The PP is not a personnel problem, it is a philosophical problem. Renny insists that the PP stay on one side of the ice and he does this for defensive purposes. Instead of moving the puck cross ice from the circles and below the Rangers play vertically on one side of the ice and simply move laterally at the points to once again play on the other side. Now really name me another team that plays so conservatively on the PP? NONE of the successful teams do this, they move the puck quickly and use the entire zone laterally. It is easy to defend the Rangers PP all you have to do is cause immediate pressure on the puck, because no one will move the puck laterally. This is Tom's philosophy, making sure no one scores on the Rangers during their own PP. If examples are needed simply watch the Canadiens PP.

If anyone has Comcast, turn on the CN8 channel, the conference championship between harvard and princeton is on, and it's a pretty entertaining game. Definitely worth checking out.

Bobby Sanguinetti's junior team (Brampton) is down 2 games to none in their opening round 7 game series vs Barrie after losing in OT tonight.

If Sanguinetti's junior season ends in a couple of days, I think there is a good chance he is coming here or going to the Pack.

Can't let the Sanginetti thing go can you? He isn't ready for the SHOW! Get over it. By the way for the geniuses that continued to rip Renney and Sather for not sending Prucha to HArtford for "conditioning" how about this:

Per the CBA, teams are not allowed to assign players to the minors for conditioning stints following the trade deadline, which is why Prucha was not dispatched to the AHL Wolf Pack.

Seems like the Rangers can run the organization without the Blogger GM's. Amazing!

"If the Rangers make the finals"

"If you win the NYS lottery."

"If Hillary becomes a Republican and lowers taxes"

"If the sun rises in the west"

Of course all the above are distinct probabilities we can
all look forward to.

msg4ever,

what are you talking about? all I said was Sanguinetti's junior season could be over in a couple of days and he's going to coming either to MSG or more than likely to Hartford, JUST LIKE HE DID LAST YEAR when his junior season ended.

sometimes reading really is fundamental

&

Ranger Rob,

you figure how how to spell Lucic yet or are your buddies in the Bruins front office still laughing at you?

A clueless coach, goal scorers who can't score, no power play, the keystone cops on defence and you idiots are talking finals? What a bunch of ignorant morons! I can't believe people still believe the hype. Sather blew it at the deadline and this team will be lucky if it goes more than one round in the playoffs. Half the defence are a bunch of Nancy's and half the offense is already retired. Nice job Slats! A big FU to all the overly optomistic zombies who will fill this blog with crying as soon as they read the truth. To all Islander fans....Nice team ya got there HA HA HA HA HA HA. LOSERS! Happy Easter : )

"if jagr resigns"

"if hank wins vezina"

"if we win the cup"

"if ranger rob gets run over by an 18 wheeler"

..all things that will make me happy

The playoffs are a long way off. The final 7 games are pretty much early playoff games. As to how far the Rangers go in playoffs the determining factors are obviously Hank's play and the PP. Hank gives them an opp to go deep in playoffs, but the PP is very capable of sinking them early. Not sure why any Islander groupies would show up here as their team is in total disarray. Imagine signing a goaltender who can't stay healthy to a 15 yr contract? That is mgmt at it's best. 13 years to go, two bad hips and soft melon that has several concussions. There is obviously more, but that one decision speaks volumes for any past, present or future Islander hopes. PS the only thing that keeps them for last place is NOLAN, and Isles will probably show him the door.

Frustrated Islander fans still coming to this board disguising themselves, LOL. They need to disguise themselves. That team is a flat out embarrassment. I haven't seen an Islander hat in public for years, LOL>

msg4ever,

i think your putting to much stock in the PP, when you say if it dosent improve we dont make it outta the 1st rd. this PP has sucked all year and probably has been at its worst during the past month or so, there record shows that it hasnt hurt them by any means. i agree completely they need to improve it big time, but it will not kill them come playoff time. officiating tends to slack off anyway during the playoffs, so there will be less pp chances. MTL is a team that needs their PP to win, we win with goaltending, defense and 3 solid scoring line and our 5 on 5 play is gotta rank top 5 in the leauge. i recall a few times this year when the PP clicked at a pretty good clip, at the time they were pounding the net with shots and big bodies.. they need to do that starting yesterday.

Tj,
Yesterday? How about months ago haha

anon...That was NOT a frustrated Islander Fan . The Truth is a Devils Fan that does the same thing on the Islander Board.

I fear your bubble bath rubber duck more than any big rig.

I take it in the man shorts !

I really like the people who say that the Rangers PP sucks, so that means they will get knocked out in the first round.

As if anyone they would play in the first round has no weaknesses.

There isn't anyone in the East the Rangers can't beat in a 7 game series, PP clicking or not.

"...geniuses that continued to rip Renney and Sather for not sending Prucha to HArtford for "conditioning" how about this:..."

wow you said the same thing on two blogs, and didn't say where you read it ( the NYP), boring.

Ladies and Gentleman...........It is with great sadness that I must announce that the New York Islanders were eliminated from the playoff picture last night. It is also with great sadness that this season will mark the 15th stright straigh season that the Islanders have failed to win a playoff series.

Talk about you shipwrecks.

"Per the CBA, teams are not allowed to assign players to the minors for conditioning stints following the trade deadline, which is why Prucha was not dispatched to the AHL Wolf Pack."

thanks for your insight... I think we can all read the newspaper so you didnt have to write it word for word then act like you know something.

Chicago just promoted 22-year old RW Troy Brouer, which makes a total of NINE players on their roster born in 1985 or later. Boston has SIX players born 1985+, NY Rangers have THREE. Get with it Sather or get the fuk out. This is today's NHL, not the 1970's.

Before someone here goes apeshit, the correct spelling of the last name is B-R-O-U-W-E-R.

Ranger Rob,

didn't I already tell you the Rangers have FOUR players born in 1985+?

And FIVE is you change your little exercise to 1984+

are you the dumbest person on any Rangers blog on the internet?

The answer would be YES!!!!

Ranger Rob,

when you were doing the whole "Cucic" thing, you said it about 17 times.

It wasn't a "spelling" error, you just didn't know who you were talking about.

So, I'd rather you just feel stupid and not continue to post, because you cannot make one post without spewing incorrect information.

Hey Ranger Rob,

the Devils have ONE player born in 1985+

the Rangers have FOUR players born 1985+

I am actually curious as on your opinion on those facts when compared to each other.

Hey Ranger Rob,

The Islanders have TWO players born in 1985+ now that Okposo is on the active roster, and they are completely out of it.

The Rangers have FOUR players born in 1985+, just in case you forgot and still think it's THREE.

comments?

Ranger Robby, where are you???

The Kings have three players on the active roster who were born 1985+ (Really 2 now that Jack Johnson is out for the year)

the Rangers have FOUR, not three as you said

are you feeling stupid yet? Is your head in the sand?

man, there are a lot of teams "stuck in the 70's"

still not really sure what that means....

Ranger Robby doooooooooooo...

You would think the St Louis Blues would have listened to the calling for this mandate to have players born in 1985+ on their team wouldn't you?

Unfortunately, no, only have two.

That's crazy for a team that is out of it isn't it?

And to think, the Rangers are contenders for the Eastern Conference and have FOUR players born in 1985 or beyond.

Amazing!!!!

Somebody get on the horn to J.D. and ask him if he thinks this is the 1970's or something, this is crazy.

Ranger Roberto......

this is a link you should take a look at, just so you avoid embarrassment again.

http://bruins.nhl.com/team/app?page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8473473&service=page

It even gives you a hint how to pronounce his name, just in case you "place a call" to the Bruins front office.

Definitely couldn't hurt to brush up on it.

Let's put it this way, resident, self-appointed genius, I say the Bruins and Blackhawks, with their long-term focus, will win a Cup before the short-term patching Rangers do, if they ever do, again.

Now we get Hollweg at center, is the rumor. Oh my God! The Zamboni machine is more mobile. Sather and Renney are absolutely insane.

Buckmeister and Ranger Rob,

same guy?

hmmmmmmmmmmm, ya think?

Yeah, that's a franchise we should aspire to be like, the Chicago Blackhawks.

HA!!!!, don't even get me started on Martin Havlat, do not get me started!

This frustrated Islander fan Rob just doesn't get it. His summer starts today as the Isles were eliminated last night. Loooooooooooooser. Get back in the basement son.
