At practice, I mean, according to Newsday's intrepid Anthony Rieber, who pinch-hit for me.
Why not? A quality February----minus those 20 minutes in Montreal---will do that for ya.
Everybody skated, except Mara of course, on IR.
Lundqvist will start against Philly.
Meantime, I'm having a maintenance day after getting up at 4:45 am, racing to airport and finding another flight delay (no crew)...
So, it's Jacuzzi, meditation, ice bath, seaweed wrap, vitamins, martinis, tuning into Graham Parker's "Don't Tell Columbus' and a live performances CD compiled by the Westchester radio station The Peak, all while reporting/slaving over my weekly Sunday NHL Insider.
Kidding.
Well, on a couple of 'em.
Guess!
Just caught up on the comments/play-by-play/hang-wringing/personal attacks by you loyal Blue Noters.
Hmmm.
I'm willing to give Backman a break. But if the broken bone in his foot hasn't properly healed (it is supposedly) I'd play Strudwick against Philly. You might see him in one of the two against the Isles anyway.
I think Orr might play against Philly, just a guess. Would Hollweg (a ref target) sit?
Sjostrom (pronounced Shew-strum, if you listened to the radio or TV broadcast) was fine, went to the net, drew a penalty. Easier transition for a forward in first game on new team.
To change the tenor of the messages,
1. Please post your proposed lines for Philly,
2. Predict the eight Eastern Conference playoff teams, in order. Remember, the three division winners are 1, 2, 3 based on points.
Rangers and Bs just four behind Ottawa at this moment, hard to believe, huh? Hossa's out for a week in Pittsburgh.
Will swing by later...
Now, where are those olives? Innkeeper!

My only change for Philly would be the fourth line:
Sjostrom - Betts - Orr
As for conference rankings:
1. Ottawa
2. NYR
3. Montreal
3. Devils
4. Penguins
5. Boston
6. Flyers
7. Carolina
8. Buffalo
I forget how the ranking works exactly, so if that doesn't make sense, lemme know!
I have a Question. How did the canes go back on the power play after they scored there second goal because they scored and then backman got put in the box before the face off.
Jordan--
When a team that is short handed takes a penalty, the penalty is called even if a goal is scored. The only way the penalty on Backman would not have been called is if the Rangers finished killing off the double minor before the puck went in.
I will go
Devils
Senators
Hurricanes
Penguins
Montreal
Rangers
Boston
Buffalo
as for lines for Philly...
Avery - Dubinsky - Jagr
Dawes - Gomez - Shanahan
Callahan - Drury - Straka
Sjostrom - Betts - Orr
Rozsival - Malik
Tyutin - Girardi
Staal - Backman
G - Lundqvist
Scratch - Prucha, Strudwick
Look familiar?
I like Prucha but he should probably get one more game off with the shoulder especially against Philly. This is also the last game I have tickets to this season.
Pavel, Ottawa and Montreal are in the same division, so you'd have to move every one down a place and put carolina in 3rd. Also, you put 9 teams on there, listed 3rd twice, haha.
As far as what I think, I'm going to agree with Sjostrom, Betts, and Orr for the game against Philly.
My conference ranking predictions:
1. New Jersey
2. Montreal
3. Carolina
4. Rangers
5. Ottawa
6. Boston
7. Pittsburgh
8. Buffalo
I agree, the 4th line can change and put Orr in. Sit Hollweg in favor of Shoestrom.
I think Pavels are optomistic although I would love to see it happen.
I like Riches, that would be my pick.
I think if they play the way they are continuously it is doable. We can catch and pass Pitts. But, I don't see the Devils happening.
Right now it is projected the Rangers have to go 9-8-0 grab 6th place with 92 pts. So that makes Gregs right on the money for the Rangers.
Here is the list:
#1 New Jersey - 6-12-0
#2 Pittsburgh - 6-10-1
#3 Montreal - 7-10-1
#4 Ottawa - 7-10-0
#5 Boston - 9-10-0
#6 N.Y. Rangers - 9-8-0
#7 Buffalo - 10-7-1
#8 Carolina - 10-4-1
Now I realize that the list is wrong in having the Devs and Pens in order and I am going to get clarification on how that works in this system from the guy who does it.
very, very happy about the february record!!!..theyve really started clicking on all cylinders, and its great to watch. i said when it happen, that the mtl disater would be a blessing and not to toot my own horn, but they aint lost yet :)
i totally agree with the orr factor. he is needed in the line-up, just in the way he will protect our stars. we need not have avery and dubie dropping the gloves, or now add callahan to that mix!!..orr is defensive minded alot more then hollweg will ever be. betts and sjostrom are ideal for the line. sjostrom will add PK duties im sure. easing the burden on gomer and drury on the PK, preventing them from getting injured blocking a shot or what ever.
the east i think looks this way, not in seed order, just best to worst:
1. pittsburgh (hinges on hossa)
2. ottawa
3. montreal
4. rangers
5. jersey
6. boston
7. buffalo
8. philly
9. carolina
10. washington
11. isles
12. tronta
13. hotlanta
14. florida
15. TB
1. New Jersey
2. Montreal
3. Carolina
4. Pittsburgh
5. Ottawa
6. New York Islanders
7. Boston
8. Buffalo
some of you are really stupid for not putting the Southeastern team 3rd. just goes to show the quality of hockey knowledge here.
"some of you are really stupid for not putting the Southeastern team 3rd. just goes to show the quality of hockey knowledge here. "
i stated "not in seed order", punchy. i think we can all agree that the southeast is the worst division in hockey. hence the reason only one of them wll make the playoffs.
TJ,
I hear what you are saying for sure but, I like the fact that Avery and Dubi will drop the gloves.
Dubi is adding that to his game, if he can take some more lessons from Strudwick and Orr and get decent at it it is only going to make him that more amazing in a few years if he can actually go a round.
Avery, well he is Avery the way he talks he is going to have to from time to time. I just don't want him cracking a wrist right now.
I also like Cally doing what he did last night to stick up for himself.
I don't disagree with you that Orr should be the guy doing it. But, its good to know that if needed at least Dubi will drop them and go is liberties are taken on Jagr, Avery as well for that matter. Also, the team sticking up for each other is huge. Part of the success lately as I see it as this team playing like a TEAM and sticking up for each other as well as the fun you can see being had lately. On the bench, after goals, in the locker room and at the end of the game.
Chemistry goes a long way.
i agree "blues",
i love seeing that fire too..im just saying with orr in the line-up it keeps teams honest, and lessens the chance of guys like avery and dubie in the box for 5 minutes. especially in the playoffs our skill guys need to stay on the ice, thats hockey 101. in fact the more success dubie has, i believe the more teams will try to goad him into fights and keep him off the ice
Straka - Drury - Prucha
Sjostrom - Betts - Orr
Callahan I know. But I'm bias.
Orr is needed. He will help keep things honest. lol
Team first, and they'll win a lot more than 9 of 17!
1. Montreal
2. New Jersey
3. Carolina
4. New York Rangers
5. Sens
6. B’s
7. Pittsburgh
8. Philly
anyone see the michigan woman's b-ball coach?..oh man, you talk about blowin' a fuse. he was a bit upset about the officiating, even more upset then i get with the koharskis or frasers of the world. HOLY JUMPIN! (darren pang) he was pissssssssssssssssed..im sure ESPN will run it all night
Why is henrik so bad when he plays the Isles ?? I think we should trade gary, Jim from woodbury and my moms new girlfirend for that kid Coffey from Emonton.
p.s I went to Nassau Community College and failed out!
No way for Sjostrom against Philly!!! I like him but we need all of our tough guys in. Hollweg, Orr and Struds.
Intelligent posters(those who want Renney gone, don't think that Betts is a great role player and who rather see Baranka and Sauer than Malik and Backman) please ignore the "blog police" let them bark and waste their time writing massive posts about fans they don't like or disagree with. Just don't give them the attention that they are whoring for and they will eventually go away just like Islander trolls.
1. New Jersey
2. Montreal
3. Carolina
4. Boston
5. Pittsburgh
6. NY Rangers
7. Ottawa
8. Philadelphia
For Philly game:
Avery-Dubinsky-Jagr
Shanahan-Gomez-Dawes
Straka-Drury-Callahan
Sjostrom-Betts-Orr
Malik-Roszival
Girardi-Tyutin
Staal-Strudwick
SO THIS IS WHAT I POSTED EARLIER:
Here is the list:
#1 New Jersey - 6-12-0
#2 Pittsburgh - 6-10-1

#6 N.Y. Rangers - 9-8-0
#7 Buffalo - 10-7-1

Top 8 for Eastern Conference
1. NJ
2. Montreal
3. Carolina
4. Pittsburgh
5. Ottawa
6. Boston
7. Rangers
8. Philadelphia
Lineup for Philly: 1st 3 lines no changes. Orr if healthy in for Sjostrom. Strudwick in for Backman. Yes it's only been one game but Backman showed absolutely no reason why he deserves to play over Strudwick on Sunday.
Even though Richards is out, the more toughness against Philly the better. "Flyer Mentality" never seems to die so you know Cote will try to goon it up more than usual if 1) Orr can't play at all, or 2) knowing that Orr may not be 100% even if he does play.
Would play Valiquette over Henrik. It's worked the last two games so stick with it and keep Lundqvist for the 2 Islander games.
1. Ottawa
2. Devils
3. Capitals
4. Pitt
5. Boston
6. Montreal
7. Rangers
8. Philly
How about that? Rangers and Devils in the first round!
Brodeur is a fat pig!
lines vs philly
Avery Dubinsky Jagr
Shanny Gomez Dawes
Straka Drury Callahan
Sjostrom Betts Orr
Rosival Malik
Toots Gerardi
Staal Strudwick
Hank in net.
As for Islander fans coming on these posts, it's truly pathetic. Get a clue about the sport and go out and at least support your team for now. Because as we all know, Wang will be moving them within the next 3 years. Isles fans should never talk, average of 9K per game, that is absolutely horrible. No passion on Hempstead Tpke. by 2011 you'll be watching your team in New Mexico where Wang has lots of property!
Avery - Dubinsky - Jagr
Dawes - Gomez - Shanahan
Callahan - Drury - Straka
hollweg - Betts - Orr
Rozsival - Malik
Tyutin - Girardi
Staal - Strudwick
G - Lundqvist
New guys can sit this one out and watch. The fourth line has been most consistent all year always giving an honest shift- if healthy they deserve to stay together.
The truth is a liar if he thinks the Icelanders will even sniff the playoffs this year! Go back to your own lousy blog.
Does anyone else agree that Pat Kaleta of Buffalo shouldn't be wearing a face shield if he plans on being an agitator type?
Lines stay the same except Orr in for Hollweg......I like Prucha too but he sits until the lines start breaking down, which is hopefully never, haha
Team looks real good right now
As for conference predictions who the heck knows,haha...........I would say it stays the same teams with Buffalo eith and Philly just missing it. Hope the Caps squeak in
And hope the Rangers get 6th......Carolijna or Wsh would be a great first round
but right now real confident and I don't think the league realizes how good this team can be.............
